So I'm wondering if there's a person out there who wants these figures, knows that their odds of being able to get them are slim to none, but is somehow comforted by the idea that they will exist somewhere.

Great point you make here.

It's a repaint of a seeker mold.
Yeah, like we've never seen that before...
What's next? An Optimus Prime toy?
Actually, they've already repainted Prime as Ultra Magnus for the target-exclusive two-pack.
And as far as this It's a repaint of a seeker mold stuff is concerned, it's actually another remold for Starscream. Still has the Ramjet head from that mold, but the wings have been redone again in Thrust's style.
I'm still pissed that this is a botcon-exclusive, but the reason why is that (even if it is just a retool of Starscream) this is too good a figure not to release at least as a target or wal-mart exclusive.

Ultra Prime wrote:Collector Maximus wrote:Holy Sweetness! I need help understanding this Iacon package thing. The absolute minimum for this set is $279.00?
And It's $179.00 for a loose set only if you already bought the box set? In other words you can't just buy a loose set for $179.00? Is that right? So we get the rest of the seekers, who are the other 2 figures?
Well, basically this is how it works:
1) There is a non-attendee boxed set of the five figures for $329 for non-club member and $279 for club members.
2) You can get the 5 figure set in a "loose set" (basically in plastic baggies) for $179 if you purchase the Primus (attendee pkg) or Iacon (non-attendee) pkg.
Those are the two ways of getting it. Obviously the loose set would be the cheapest. But if that is all you can afford then you'll have to beg someone who is going to Botcon or already purchasing the non-attendee pkg to get the loose set for you.
Now keep in mind that there will undoubtedly be people purchasing a loose set to sell on Ebay after Botcon. But those sets will surely go for more than the $179 the seller will have paid for them. All the more reason to just buy the non-attendee package at least.
Edit: The remaining figures are Dreadwing & Bugbite which they have not unvieled yet. Based on the pattern of preview pics I'd say the next figure will be unvieled by Monday.

It's wicked crap because they are strictly Botcon exclusives.
It's like someone handed out crazy pills that make people not read entire threads!
Topsy-turvey world, wooooo.

People are complaining to Hasbro because they actually made figures that everyone wants... I don't understand.

It's really very simple. No matter how obsure/crap botcon figures are, a certain type of hardcore collector will always want them anyway because of their rarity/exclusivity. Meanwhile the casual collector just shakes his/her head and smiles and says "Let those oddball botcon types have their expensive fun. It's no skin off my nose. That armoured tank character repainted in pink and purple polka dots just wasn't for me anyway." This is how it should forever have been. Alas, Botcon 2007 has shattered this amiable state of affairs and set collector against collector by producing "figures that everyone wants".
Who knows, maybe this is how the war on cybertron began. I wonder what transformers collect? Sounds like an alternate tf mythology weird enough to accompany a botcon exclusive set...
