Personally, methinks he would, should have caught cancer. 2-3 bottles at a single go and all he's gotten is an IQ dumb-down 5 years after? That's just unbelievable.

What I find especially bloody ridiculous is how the parents actually let him go on for 5 years!? Whatever happened to common sense? They shouldn't go blaming the franchise, they should grow backbones and blame themselves.

Idiot deserves a Darwin award but he's not exactly sterile at the moment, is he?

The same thing crossed my mind too. I mean, I heard that gas from lighters are used by retards as a cheap version of drug, but I don't think that anybody can survive drinking a tank of gasoline, and on the short run, his digestive system would be destroyed.

I know it didn't exist 5 years ago but in TFA the Constructicons drink lots of oil. A kid dumb enough to drink gasoline is probably dumb enough not to know the different between oil and gas anyway.

I say, take the retard out in the open, tell him there ain't nothing better than a cool drink and a fresh cigar...

Actually, I am rather sceptical about it all.

The thing in the article about his 'compulsion' to drink the gasoline stuck with me. I woke up this morning, and *pop*, I think I have the answer:

Pica.

Pica's a blanket term for people with strange compulsions to eat weird things. There's a pica for glass (hyalophagia), a desire to eat feces (coprophagia), and they still use 'pica' as a diagnosis for young children (which this kid qualifies as when he started) eating any unacceptable foods.

So, despite the parents, I don't think it's TFs at all. And that's the story we'll use when they try to sue Hasbro.

Now you know: and remember kids, knowing is half the battle.

There are only two episode to my knowledge that even show a bot using gas, in G1 it was when Firstaid left the bots (wait that was oil not gas) ok so one instance, in RID when Mirage was at a full pump. Stupid ass kid get your facts right. And one last thing, since he now has a dependency are they going to keep feeding him gas? I dont think you can go to rehab and get some pills for that? Can you?

I'm pretty sure his thought process was probably closer to "Optimus Prime is cool and strong. He's also a truck! I see my daddy putting petrol (British) into his truck-and-or-car. Petrol must make you strong!".
As you say, Transformers have always used Energon, and I'm sure this was to avoid events like this (as well as making it easier to still understand if we switched to other means of energy) except of course recently in Animated where Oil=Beer.
As for the parents it said it took them a while to find out what he was doing with the petrol (British), by which point he was probably quite addicted, and before that they probably just assumed the kid was doing what many other kids that age do with lighters, one of the following:
"Oooh pretty fire!"
Giving them to older "friends" to smoke with.
Or smoking himself.
Any of these are still an issue and they really should have looked into it, but hey.

Over all I've got to say this story does nothing (positive OR negative) for my faith in humanity or parents, but makes me wonder how many other substances we use in our day to day lives that if accidentally consumed at first could lead to other stories like this. It makes me wonder more about what petrol (British) companies, especially the ones hit by this story, will do in future to prevent such events. Will one of Hellkitty's suggested PSA's really stop the mind of a 6 year old from being curious?

Hmmmmm... Is there any difference between pica on gasoline and plain'ol gasoline addiction? I mean, it's not as if one can brand alcoholics as all having a pica for alcohol.

The facts have to be wrong here! It just doesn't make any sense. How do they know the kid has been drinking gasoline for five years? Did they ask the kid? If he can't add anymore then how can they be sure? Secondly if the parents knew this was going on for that amount of time then this is very well their fault and no one elses! As far as the kid repairing the TV is probably an over exaggeration for changing the channel. If the kid doesn't have the sense to not drink gasoline; then I wonder what else is wrong with the kid? It's hard for me to feel sad about this and not angry at the stupidity! I also wonder if this was a form of punishment by the parents and they are trying to cover their problem by blaming Transformers and make a profit as well!

Common sense should be a stronger measure of intelligence than it is. His parents SAY he used to be smart, but failing to see drinking gas wouldn't help him become any of those things is a red flag.

It does seem a little dubious... I did a little reading, while I'm not sure on the accuracy of the information it seems that by all rights the child should be dead.

Ingestion

Gasoline is not as readily absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract as from the respiratory tract. In adults, about 20 to 50 g can cause severe intoxication and 350 g (12 oz.) can result in death for a 70 kg individual. As little as 10 to 15 g (less than one-half ounce) may be fatal in children. Symptoms of intoxication by ingestion of gasoline can range from vomiting, vertigo, drowsiness and confusion to loss of consciousness, convulsions, hemorrhaging of the lungs and internal organs, and death due to circulatory failure. Ingestion can cause irritation to the gastrointestinal mucosa and can be complicated by pulmonary aspiration, resulting in chemical pneumonitis.

now that's i would like to call IRONY. were his parents even watching this kid? i mean did they even tell him that CARTOONS ARE FICTION AND NOT EVEN REAL? that's what my parents told me while i was growing up watching Transformers, G.I. Joe, Tom & Jerry and TMNT.

I work in mental health, and there's no such thing as dependency on drinking gasoline. However there is dependency on inhaling gasoline. Gasoline is a solvent, therefore inhaling the fumes causes numbing and sleepiness (and kills neurons too).

DRINKING gasoline on the other hand is usually letal, because it evaporates and condensates in the lungs, causing chemical pneumonias. The kid would be in a intensive care unit connected to a ventilation machine instad of being in the headlines.

However, it's not strange to find kids inhaling fuel in conditions of poverty and neglect. Five years of drug abuse point to gross neglect of the kid - not to some cartoon being held responsible.

In my professional opinion, this seems like a real story written by a lazy reporter trying to cash in on the hype of a certain movie.

My fan opinion: well, in the last movie Sam pukes when he finds out that his mouth tastes like diesel. That's the example to follow.

I grew up on a gas station, and never once got the idea to drink it. Most likely because my mom or my Grandparents told me that it was deadly if I drank it. I'll admit, I was a complete sissy when I was 5 and would follow any suggestion without question.

If I were in there shoe I would have just swapped out the gas for apple juice for a little while.

This is utterly ridiculous. I have a 3 year old son and he has the sense not to drink anything unless HIS PARENTS hand it to him. I'm inclined to believe that most kids are that way. As for them trying to blame TF for this issue. I think that this is just going to be some bogus ploy to attempt lawsuit against HasTakTomy just to make a few quick bucks. The parents should not have been allowed to breed if they are this worthless. I just feel sorry for the child because if he was swilling gas(which I find highly dubious) it was probably at the behest of his parents. But I shall take this as an attempt to push forward a belief of mine.........PEOPLE NOWADAYS SHOULD HAVE TO SUCCUMB TO RIGOROUS TESTING BEFORE BEING ALLOWED TO BREED!!!!!

I'm fairly certain this story is BS. Drinking a gasoline once can kill you. Drinking it constantly for 5 years is unbelievable. Mental retardation from the lead in the gas is the least of his problems. Catastrophic organ failure, supposing he actually was drinking gas, would be in his near future.
