Now that the movie is out there... are people disappointed that it isn't Voltron or Chuthlu? Posted by Dr Buffalo Sun Jan 20, 2008 10:28 pm

It's a recounting of what transpired from a regular persons perspective. How would you get answers from that vantage point? The people you're with aren't going to be looking for answers and neither are you. All that is important is getting to the people you love and getting the Hell out of there. Which is exactly what this movie showed. It's a disaster movie unlike any other.
Honestly it was unsettling to me because it was reminiscent of the hand held cameras that captured the towers falling and the chaos that enveloped the city at that point as well.
Overall the hook of the movie is that it's not presented with swooping camera angles with a bunch of fancy fly throughs showing the action. It's not Hollywood like at all in terms of the presentation. And frankly I wish more directors were willing to try new things like this. For me it worked.

No resolution? You mean with the monster? That may be true given what might have happened after the credits (people claim that a voice says "It's still alive") but the story is really about Rob's inability to say his true feelings to Beth. At the very end, both characters are able to say "I love you."Posted by Supreme Convoy Mon Jan 21, 2008 2:15 pm

I'll bet that they didn't have any promotional tie-ins like Transformers like toys (other than what's found in the movie like Pepsi) because they knew images of the creature would be leaked way too soon. Posted by Cyber Bishop Mon Jan 21, 2008 2:26 pm

Hopefully, if theres a second one, we get something from the perspective of the military, maybe using a security camera mixed with handheld shots.

Well I figure that explanation is easy enough. He started off going to Tokyo, but Godzilla kinda stopped him and said "Hells no, this is my turf nubsauce, get your own metropolis to trash" so Clovey, heartbroken traveled the seven seas, and when he came to NY harbor, he saw the statue of liberty and the city, got a chubby and said "DIBS!" then went on a rampage.

I don't know if this was discussed but my freind at work told me he had seen in the very last scene at Coney Island that was shot weeks before the monster attacked that if you look closely behind a cruise ship there is something falling out of the sky.

Just read about it. Abrams said the monster has been on earth for thousands of years. During the final moments, a satellite falls from the sky and wakes up the monster somehow. Take a look here (a minor spoiler I suppose?), on the very right there's a giant splash. Posted by TheMuffin Mon Jan 21, 2008 4:23 pm
