You guys know me. I keep my fiction loose. Allows my own personal playtime in this imaginary world of Transformers to be adaptable to anything Hasbro or myself throw out there. I still like to think of Primus and Unicron as Gods, but using that term loosely. They remain in my mythos as the ancient creators. A cosmic yin and yang of the original galactic good and evil. Can't have one without the other. I've always loved the notion, set up in the Unicron Trilogy that Primus IS Cybertron.
I'm not sure how this whole Rung thing plays out, but I like the idea of him being some kind of avatar for Primus. And now I'm gonna have to Google images of this IDW Unicron. After this post of course.
Anyway! It's funny how things work out.
I have a bunch of fun new awesome toys to play with here on my desk, and for some reason I have been giving all my attention to an old guy this weekend. Friday night found me sitting here contemplating what fun photo shoot I could do with these new Diaclone Waruders, but then I look over at my Unicron Trilogy shelf and see some awesome bot starring back at me saying, "Hey dude, play with me! It's been a while. I'm awesome. You should grab me so we can party!"
Energon Ultra Class Landquake
I picked this guy up at the last Botcon of all times. Part of a massive haul that filled in a lot of holes in my UT collection. Cary was there. He saw me do it. The cool thing about that candy store was I could pick and choose exactly what version of the toys I liked best. Of course Quake here is a repaint of Landmine, who is also awesome, but I've just always liked Landquake's deco better.

Fiddling with this guy has reminded me just how much I love the Aaron Archer era of Transformers. And the farther we get away from it the more it stands out to me as one of the best post G1 eras of all. Right up there with Beast Wars.
Not shackled by real world alt modes, the designs were free to be big chunky fun Tonka truck imaginary vehicles. Riding the line between Earth like and Cybertronian. And the robot modes to be big beefy badass space warriors. If you look at the entire trilogy you can see a wonderful evolution of some very specific design ideas, and by Cybertron they had nailed it.
By far some of my favorite head sculpts of any TF toy line.

So yeah! Funny how things work out. Surrounded by new shiny things and I reach for an oldie but goodie. Sometimes you gotta just grab who ever speaks to you in the moment. Maybe I'm feeling worn thin by the Prime Wars Trilogy at the moment, and I just needed to get back to a warm, fuzzy, familiar place. You know visit the past to better appreciate the present.
Such a fun toy this Landquake is!
