So I went to my local comic shop yesterday, and there it was, The Killing Joke, deluxe edition, brand new still wrapped up. For $18, I picked it up. Turns out, I have read this story before, a long time ago, back in the early 90s. All I remembered were the raindrops at the beginning and the end, and the red "hood." The other reason I remember it is because I have an uncle who in his younger days was a spitting image of the guy who became the Joker. It's a good story, even though I believe it's just 1 of many fantasies the Joker has about "what could have been." He even says so himself, when he states that when he thinks of the past, he likes to think in multiple choice. I take that as him referring to the past shown in The Killing Joke as 1 of many he has conjured up. Will this be made into an animated feature?Shadowman wrote:It's the definitive Joker comic. It's the most accepted version of his backstory (Even if he himself claims that he probably made it up) but for the most part it's about Joker trying to bring Commissioner Gordon down to his level. Related to that, this comic is the reason Barbara Gordon spent almost 30 years in a wheelchair.Rodimus Prime wrote:I've never read that story in comic form. Should I do that before watching this? I don't even know what it's about.

Nice. I just hope they don't give in to PC pressure and tone it down, at all. I see the midgets are still in it, and if they keep the nudes of Barbara, then it should be fine. I'm not saying it because I want to see an animated naked dead girl, those shots emphasize not only Gordon's suffering, but The Joker's total lack of empathy. Matter of fact, considering it would need more material to be a full-length feature (the comic itself is rather short) I hope they beef up the main story a bit with extra fight scenes and other background stuff, besides the apparent prologue highlighting Batgirl. But this will be definitely in my blu-ray collection. I just wonder if it will fit in TAS somehow.Shadowman wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:Will this be made into an animated feature?

It won't, unfortunately. As we saw in Batman Beyond, Barbara was still Batgirl by the time Joker died.

Oh. I never saw Batman Beyond, but TAS was pretty good, this new feature reminded me of it. Oh well. Still buying it.Shadowman wrote:It won't, unfortunately. As we saw in Batman Beyond, Barbara was still Batgirl by the time Joker died.Rodimus Prime wrote:I just wonder if it will fit in TAS somehow.

I think Captail Cold is the best character in the series. Considering that he's supposed to be the only character without emotion, that's saying something.
I keep trying to get into it, but I'm finding it flipflopping between ridiculous and overly melodramatic.

Well, it's DC, and is/was a TV show, so I'd say that you're safeBeastProwl wrote:So, do things like Batman: The animated series count in this thread? Because literally watching it for the first time right now and I'm in love with it so far.

it is the best of the animated series, I also hope you check out Mask of the Phantasm as that is easily one of the best batman movies (yes, including the live action movies).
Will you be checking out Justice league after this?

All I can say from watching it is....that it does flesh out some of the story that was flawed in the standard version, + being R Rated....you do get more aggressive fighting between the two.

Well, it's supposed to be a straight adaptation of the comic, isn't it? But a single issue comic book can't really make a 90 minute movie, so I think what was said before is the 1st half will be all about how Barbara is Batgirl, and then Batman goes to see The Joker about halfway through, finding out that he had broken out of the nuthouse, thus starting the events of the comic itself. This is what I heard, anyway.sto_vo_kor_2000 wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:My local movie theater will be showing the new animated The Killing Joke for one night on July 25th. The tickets are $13. In other news, I finally watch bats vs super. Notasgoodas I hoped, but nowhere near as bad as I feared.

Gotham & Legends Of Tomorrow new season comicon trailers(most of the footage is taken from the previous season, but there are new snippets of stuff on there)
(Btw some people are speculating that the guy in the green mask that confronts Alfed in the Gotham trailer could possibly be The Green Hornet)

Comics wise the rights are shared between DC and Dynamite.
