So I'm not going crazy? Shucks, there go my plans for the weekend. Now what am I going to do with that flamingo, twenty gallons of custard, and the marching band I hired?

I Would have bought the FP Add-on kits for Superion. If they came with Two extra basic figures like the FP Swindle & Blastoff kits came with.

So youre among the 1% that like the ugly energon translucent claw hands and feet. I thought you were defending the FP add on set vs. Uranus. I had no clue you were defending the crappy hasbro set as a combiner without any add ons at all. I cant think of anyone else on here who even likes the energon molds without upgrades because theyre just too hasbroish. Im speechless...

It's higher than 1%. As not all fans worldwide like & buy 3rd party items.

I saw nothing wrong with the HasTak hands & feet as they had some articulation in them. They even looked like passable hands & feet.

I own the molds in the ROTF Superion colors.

Judging from the # of people that complain about $15 deluxes I'm going to have to agree with Tsutsukakushi that there are a lot more people that don't collect third party stuff then those that do

Of course there are, but if you're talking about adult collectors then I think that ration shrinks a LOT, especially these days otherwise there wouldn't be such a lucrative 3rd party toy market right now with so many companies getting into the game and even trying to outdo each other by producing the same characters (3 frickin' Predakings dude, it's hard to argue against that, sorry).

To me, the FP set is outdated because it's an add-on for an old Energon combiner, regardless of how recently it was reissued. It's old, it's tiny, none of the figures or their alt modes look very much like the G1 Aerialbots. TFC wins this one hands down.

Now that said, I still like my Energon (yes, ENERGON, I never bought the RotF set because the colors are too drab IMO) set with my custom painted FP add-on set (dark metallic purple, thank you very much :P) and I'm going to get this add-on kit for it. But that set/combiner is not my 'classics' Superion by any stretch of the imagination. He is an unnamed combiner that looks cool on my shelf, the same as with my heavily customized FP Bruticus and my heavily customized Silverbolt with 2 helicopters for arms and 2 tanks for legs who also uses an FP Bruticus add-on kit. I like weird combiners (Gobots Monstrous is my one of my favs as are the 3 Beast Wars combiners).

So in my opinion, the entire concept of upgrading these very old Has/Tak combiners with add-on kits is outdated since we now have alternatives with entirely new sets/figures. Of course, as long as Has/Tak keep making combiners in 'classics' scale like their FoC Bruticus, there will still be room for sets like this, but TFC definitely trumped the Has/Tak+FP set with their offering and if any of the other third parties (FP, Maketoys etc.) decide to do a full, entirely new Superion combiner, I think it will sell quite well too. After all, if this idea weren't at least somewhat outdated we'd be seeing at least one add-on kit for the official 'classics'/Energon Devastator instead of 2 full, entirely new sets based on new molds from 2 third parties (TFC and Maketoys) because it's such an easy sell and instant money maker. But mysteriously no one has.

Sure they are, but I'm saying that I think these third party toys sell pretty well, otherwise there wouldn't be so many.

No I agree there are a lot that collects third parties, just that there are a lot more that does not. All I'm saying is the pool of potential buyers of third party products is not unlimited. I mean does anything even sell out anymore?

Okay, my two cents?

Is the Crossfire I set 'outdated'? yes, but here's the kicker. That does NOT make it bad. It took a pretty crappy combiner set and made it damned good. It's an inexpensive alternative for those who can't afford Uranos. I've still got that Superion on my Classics shelves.

Old =/= bad. Or at least not all the time. And this is one of those times where being old doesn't mean bad.

As for Uranos? It's quite good. Technically superior by being original, bigger and whatnot. But if you can't afford it, the Crossfire I set and the Energon combiner set together is still a good combo. Uranos being better does NOT mean Crossfire I is 'bad'. It's simply not as good.
Not caring about scale since 1984. Just like Hasbro.

but I wasn't. I was factoring in all buyers of HasTak & 3rd parties worldwide.

Even if we are just factoring in adult collectors. X's 1% out of 100% of adult collectors who still prefer the HasTak Superion minus the 3rd party add-on kits is still a extreme Exaggerated low percentage.

The Term adult collector means any adult 18+ You don't need to be hard core, buy everything & know everything. adult collectors can also apply to a 18+ casual or medium. who just buys a few handful of stuff in his hobby. doesn't have time or need to read sites or join forums. not all adult collectors who buy TF toys know these 3rd parties exist.

I think I should be more specific about what I mean by an "adult collector". I was referring to somebody in their mid 30s who grew up with G1 toys enough to appreciate 3rd party G1 Homages. I also would put people in their late 20s who grew up with beast wars in the catagory of adult collectors. Maybe armada too since its Hitting the ten year mark and has a couple hasbro homages. No offense to anyone who grew up with newer lines. But Third parties arent homaging those lines yet.

Adult colletors means anyone 18+ that collects stuff. Not just who you feel is worthy enough to be put into this defination. #-o

On page one I stated that I prefer an adult collectible over a kids toy upgraded with a bunch of parts. Who do you think collects adult collectibles ? If somebody else rolled with it further on page 2 of this thread than that just proves Im not the only one who feels this market is for adult collectors. Maybe by law 18 years old makes someone an adult, but theyre still just a big teenager fresh out of high school. I should know, because I supervise plenty of them for a living. Im not trying to insult people between the ages of 18-22, but its safe to say they didnt grow up with any line of transformers that is currently being homaged by 3rd party companies. Stop being all technical about age. You know exactly what I meant by adult collectors because I defined It in my last post. Im 37 and I grew up collecting G1 figures from the ages of 8-12. Im very curious how old you are and what TF lines you grew up with as a kid...

I got worried about this selling out before it got to a HK or UK distributor (I was drunk yesterday) and pre-ordered this with BBTS. Hopefully customs won't demand a big proportion of it. From what I saw on TFW, the hip piece is not one solid cast and this allows for the legs to be posed freely. This looks like such a nice add-on!

I appreciate being a Beast Wars afterthought... but as a 26 year old who grew up on G1 re-runs and rented the movie almost weekly before being introduced to Beast Wars, I think your timeline might be skewed.

It didn't include instructions, so, you'll just have to go with that picture. It wasn't that hard to figure out. Plastic is a bit on the cheap side.

Those are the same four screw holes on the FP set. You just unscrew, tack on the part from the kit, and then use the longer screws that came with the DMY set.

DC - thanks for all the pics and comparisons with this set. I am really hesitant to pick it up because Energon/Classics Superion really isn't a big highlight of my collection, and I already have the FP kit as well as have TFC's Uranos. In addition, the new head on this kit, the slight color mismatch for the gray kit, and the price are also negatives. I had also previously picked up the chest filler (v4, I believe) from Shapeways and liked how it filled this guy out.

What sways me into thinking I'll pick this kit up (regardless of the above qualms and knowing I want $40 for other items) is that it gives this figure a much needed lift. If you're comparing to non-upgraded Classics sets, then there's no problem. But if you compare to Bruticus with the FP add-ons and MakeToys' Giant, Superion has been the runt of the litter. Here, he's hit that much needed growth spurt. Also, I like the addition of the arm connectors, which helps to beef Superion up.

So, still on the fence but I do believe I'll pick the kit up by the end of the month. Thanks again.

I got the grey version in hand today. First thing I would say this takes a bit more work than just a typical FansProject kit. Various parts needed to be 'broken in' due to things being a little off. For example one of my FP fists plugged nice and securely to the forearm, the other was waay too tight and caused stress marks. Also the gold 'antannae' did not fit very well. I broke one of them and had to glue them. The replacement connectors for the leg bots are way too tight, and I needed to slim them down with a scalpel. All in all this is a really good set and it improves Superion massively. I would thoroughly recommend it but be prepared to face the niggles I had above. It's worth it to finally have an imposing looking Superion!

It's no Uranus, but it will look kind of cool as a "G2" Superion with the Energon Aerialbots.

You have to use the wider 'horns' if you still want to be able to close the head into Silverbolt's nosecone

I love that these 2 are the same height now - the red crotch plate really unifies the look of the combiner too.
