Enjoyable crapfest?
The first Transformers film blew me away at first. If I look at it today, I find it decent. In fact, I even sometime think that the old '80 movie was better at some point.
Revenge of the Fallen blew me even more away, despite its flaws. Yet, when I look at it now im starting to see that its a horrible film. Which is leading me to a conclusion: Maybe its what I call...enjoyable crap?
Maybe its one of those films that are SO BAD (for whatever reason) that they end up beign "good". Or atleast fun to watch.

That's whats been talked about ALOT. But i went though the same thing as you. When i left the theater i thought it was the best thing EVER. But givin time to think bout it, you start to really think of the flaws.... and you opinion really changes. Even when i went to see it again i went thought the same process.

That's why it's being called the Highest Grossing Worst Reviewed Movie of all time.
What they threw at us was so action intense, so 'over the top' in so many respects that it took a long time for the die-hards to process the fact that there were holes in it big enough to drive Prime through. However, those of us willing to see it for what it is and not over-analyze it to death are still going to find enough elements to consider it enjoyable. It's all about personal expectations and personal likes and dislikes. F*** the nay-sayers!
Hey, it may be a crap fest but we are loyal TF Fans and this is OUR 200 Million Dollar Crapfest!
I'd rather sit through it 3 times than see the new Harry Potter.

No movie is perfect. Every movie has problems. If you tried hard enough, you could over Analise any movie out there. Especially Sci-fi action flicks such as this. You said it yourself that the first time you saw it it blew you away. personally I don't agree with the..
It was fun to watch, i loved every minute of it, but it was a horrible movie attitude. If you enjoyed, and it makes you want to go see it again, then that to me is a good movie. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. But again, no movie is. take it for whats its worth.

Re: Enjoyable crapfest?
This is a very accurate description,Nico, andI'm pretty sure most of us are feeling the same way. Every single complaint about the movie is legitimate, and I can't bring myself to actually call it a masterpiece or even very good. It certainly fails as an adaptation of the Transformers franchise, at least the way I see it. And from the perspective of a movie nerd and an amateur filmmaker, it doesn't hold up well as a movie.
Despite all this I **** loved it, even if I feel a bit guilty about doing so.
And just because I liked it doesn't mean I wouldn't want to see Michael Bay thrown into a Sharkticon-infested pit and have the reins of the Transformers film series given over to Simon Furman and Sam Raimi in order to make the greatest movie of all time and then they'd stop Stan Bush from further embarrassing himself trying to rip off a band he's much better than and have him team up with Megadeth and Vince DiCola to make the soundtrack. Also I can fly and my cat turns into a bulldozer. It could happen.
I should stop typing now. Smiley-face.

Yes, I know. So many people love it even if so **** bad. Its awesome yet its an horrible, badly written film. I guess you need to turn off your brain to like it.

Re: Enjoyable crapfest?
You don't have to really "turn off" your brain so much as you have to adjust the settings on it.
Dial it back to somewhere between the 'inner-child' and 'mid-teens' settings, set analysis level at minimum and shut the 'preconceived ideas' mode off entirely. Set the fun meter around 'joy-ride in a stolen car' and you should be good to go.
Everyone going into the theater to see this has been so "black and white" about both what they were expecting and what they actually got out of it that many people ruined it for themselves without really having to try. They were screwed and doomed from the start. I went in thinking a lot differently than what most people were. Heck up until the lights dimmed I sat there calmly sipping my over-priced theater coffee and reading the book I had brought with me while the air around me was practically electrified with everyone elses anticipation and expectations. Had it been later in the day I would have used the time to do some human nature study but it was first thing in the morning and I just wanted coffee and some wake-up time. That could have been why I wasn't so critical of it now that I think about it...

So let me ask a question...
Would people prefer an in depth plot and story that went in depth with character development and background od the TF's, that was ultimately had the full approval a the critics, but lacked the necessary action and fight scenes with the proper attention to detail?
Basically a "Great movie", but was ultimately boring? Would that have been preferred?

Re: Enjoyable crapfest?
That's a very tricky question and subject to every individuals own personal tastes. One mans 'boring' is not necessarily the same as anothers. I've been in potentially life threatening situations where I didn't so much as bat an eye and the person next to me screamed and nearly wet themselves and by the same token I've absolutely enjoyed films that some would have considered boring as hell but I thought were quite decent and enjoyable. I think I could find enjoyment in both types of film equally. I realize that doesn't help answer your question one bit (sorry) but it's the most honest and fair response I think I can give.
It's also my best shot at walking away from the Movie Forums with my a$$ intact but that wasn't my motivation for answering the way I did.

I agree it was an enjoyable crap-fest.
Not bad for someone like me who is a very staunch Michael Bay and Bayformers critic.
So yeah I do agree it was an very enjoyable crap-fest.

Good point. I guess it just fustrates me when people use the story and plot as reasons not to like the movie, when (at least to me) thats not what TF is about. Both stories from the firstmovie and ROTF are alll based on TF mytho's, so i don't know what more people can really expect from a TF based movie.

Your last statement hit the nail on the head SO FREAKING HARD. It really is all about expectations and likes and dislikes. It isn't perfect, but it's better for me than the HP movie too.

The sad part is, if you took those same people and had given them the chance to see RotF at no charge, and then had them watch 2 1/2 hours of G1, they would defend G1 and still crap on the movie when in all reality there are just as many holes. They are on a totally different level because the target audience is different, but the fundamental problem still exists in both. Those same people won't grasp that, unfortuantely, but then if they did we wouldn't be having so many explosive debates popping up around here. People make so many irrational decisions based off of too little or complete disinformation and are then so set in defending their standpoint because they don't want to swallow their pride and admit that they may have been hasty. They make whatever excuses (overblowing the plot problem instead of simple acknowledgement and moving on) and then keep feeding on them.
If anything, I think this movie kicked a$$ just for the fact that it made for one amazing study in human behavior. Not the film itself by any stretch but the TransFans have provided a plethora of free subjects for me. I haven't had to watch cable in days.
