Exclusive repaints, would you buy them?
Would you buy a repaint of an existing mold offered as a limited exclusive even if the mold has been used for several other characters in the past? How many of the classics/henkie Optimus Prime or starscream/seeker is to many? What would be selling points that might make you interested in the item? Would anyone other then me like to see some "Classics" in gen 2 colors? Any other Ideas? please add them.

It depends on who they're being repainted as, how good the mold is, how many copies of that mold I already own and how much it costs.
Also, if the repaint is imaginative, I'll enjoy it. Cybertron Red Alert as Crankcase? Fantastic. Armada Wheeljack as SG Sideswipe (ie. Deluge) with his Minicon as SG Whisper? Great stuff.
Legacy repaints are also okay, just 'cos they've always been that way. If there's a Starscream, there's gonna be a Skywarp and a Thundercracker. And a Sunstorm. And a rainmaker. And....yeah, there's too many seeker repaints.

Ok how about a SG Ultra Magnus and SG Nemesis Prime or a Classics Grimlock in Gen2 Colors. What combinations would be interesting ones? Would having a numbered certificate for the limited run make a difference in interest? And how about things like the FP CC/PC/SC trailer sets, would they be interesting items?

I would buy a pepaint if it represented an established character. It would have to be a faithful representation though, a pink and purple Classics Grimlock passed off as BW Megatron wouldn't fly with me.

I will only buy a repaint if it is a representation of a G1 character and if they change it in some meaningful way that identifies them as that character (like a different head or something). I try not to buy straight repaints of the same mold.
This helps in keeping me from spending ALL of my money on TF's.

Yeah, I only buy them if it's an established character I collect, it's well-executed, and not too expensive. It doesn't have to be remolded, but it helps.

Re: Exclusive repaints, would you buy them?
I wouldn't if it was over $100, especially is it's something I already got. So, no thanks, Botcon; no thanks, Gentai. You can keep your cool repaints. Generally, there's just too many new molds to enjoy than simply buying a repaint of something I already have.

I often do. I like repaints, but generally only the ones that are new characters or are new-er representations of G1 characters. So, I really like the Classics/Universe figures, and the Botcon stuff. One of the many things I dislike about the movie toy line(s) is that Hasbro puts out updated/graded versions of the same character, such as Jungle Ironhide or whatever he's called. A lot of people hate repaints and I think that this concept contributes to the displeasure. Starscream/Seeker repaints are fine, becuase they are different characters....Skywarp and company aren't just black and purple or blue Starscreams, whereas 49 ROTF Bumblebees with different paint are all ROTF Bumblebee. As long as it's someone new or someone different, I'm all for repaints.

Re: Exclusive repaints, would you buy them?
Just a wacky idea, but how about a matching set of a classics prime and FP's city commander trailer packaged together, for either an existing character or an original character? I don't know if Has/Tak would go for it, but I would love to have one or 3 myself. One to open and play with, one to display in the box and one to put in a vault after having it graded and sealed. But hay thats just me, just crazy like that.
Would love it if it was a 'con though, maybe as Motormaster with a new head for the CC armor.

...but why? They've only used the mold once to my knowledge. Twice if you count the Crystal version. Three if you count the black version which, as far as I'm aware, was never publicly released. The black one eats me up though. I want it pretty badly.

Honestly, I've always just suspected that those figures that showed up were just one-offs for the SDCC Nemesis Convoy. I really never expected them to be produced. eh.

It's possible but not likely. Red transparent plastic instead of blue. Nearly all dark black plastic instead of the lighter colors we got. Fairly different paint apps and Bot symbols not Con. The faction symbols would probably be the easiest to accept as a "test" piece. I'd like to think you're right on one hand. On the other, I still want the bloody thing no matter who's right.

I generally don't like repaints, except for 1 group: the seekers. But mention them and exclusive in one sentence, and I start swearing
. Seriously, people need mass-produced seekers!

Re: Exclusive repaints, would you buy them?
If they're a new character or an update of an early TF whose toy wasn't the best.
What I hate about repaints are the obvious missed opportunities. You know, a new mold that appears to homage an existing character but never gets painted in the colours of said character.
For me, Energon Divebomb was a homage to Banzai-tron but despite all of the repaints the mold got, we never got Banzai-tron.
Clocker as Hot Rod is another example.
Then there's the ones that the fans agree on but we never get like Tidal Wave as Broadside.
Was reading Matrix Quest the other day and thought Thunderwing's little band would be a nice convension set.
Energon Megatron as Thunderwing with a remolded head.
Titanium Seeker as Windsweeper.
Classics Seeker with head remold as Needlenose.
Defense Hot Shot/Roadbuster as Ruckus.
Evac as Spinister.
Just thought I'd throw that in there.

TakTomy exec 1) We have to come up with a another lucky*draw transformer. Who has ideas?
exec 2) We can do a gold or silver plated Animated figure, fan love the metal ones?
exec 3) We made that green Unicron, lets make a fire burning Primus.
exec 4) I asked the publicity guys to see what fans are looking for. They seem to think we should do more e-hobby type specials, but get this they say theirs some guy on the internet called Metalhead or something like that who said he would buy every single version of the Henkei Convoy mold we put out.
exec 2) That sounds like he's challenging us.
exec 3) Yes, I feel we should teach this Metal of Head a lesson.
exec 1) Very well, 4 let the guys know they'll have another Convoy to taunt the fans with.
