They are not the same guy.
How many times must it be stated that these games may be heavily influenced by G1 but are NOT G1?

Admittedly HMS's Hot Whatever does share a lot of features with Cybertron/Galaxy Force Hot Shot, but wasn't the only reason the name Hot Rod was dropped in the first place was because some other company or brand got it liscenced to them? It's like Slag and the Insecticons. Regardless of the name or the reason it was changed, in open conversation folk are going to call them by the names that they probably would still be called if it wasn't for the bureaucracy. You can't insist that everyone adheres to the official line unless it's in an official capacity.
I will concede that Hot Shot has become a character in his own right thanks to the Unicron trilogy, but to me that artwork from HMS is Hot Rod and always will be. Please do not take offence to that, oh so wise one.

not every kid appeal character is Hot Rod/Rodimus. What about Side Burn? His super mode was a red sports car with flames, but he wasn't Hot Rod either. Likewise Hot Shot is Hot Shot.Bubbah wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Well, how come no one made a fuss about Energon Downshift and Shockblast, who were obvious homages to Wheeljack and Shockwave?
For me they were just simple name changes, but still the "same" character. And I was ok with Hot Shot being Hot Rod until Roddimus showed up. Is Hot Shot = Hot Rod, and if so, who is Roddimus?

In this continuity, the guy is an homage to Hot Rod, named Hot Shot, and will grow up to become Rodimus.
BTW, it was Energon that had a Rodimus. Cybertron had the non-show character Excellion.
