Speak for yourself.. err... maybe most of the fandom, but I for one am a big fan of Rodimus Prime. It's not his fault he got a bum rap in the original movie... the writers are to blame

Rodimus Prime is totally underrated

OMG...Fansproject will you marry me (gets down on one knee), this figure is just as beautiful as the Ultra Magnus upgrade and will compliment my 86' post-movie squad, specially with my newly aquired Springer (defender), my Roadbuster with his upgrade, Ultra Magnus + armor,...really embarrased to say his name (although his robot mode is ok)...wheelie (sorry almost threw up a bit), now all that's missing is the Blurr figure Hasbro is planning on realeasing and hopefully an Arcee and an updated classics/Universe Kup figure...Fansproject someone needs to hose you guys down cuz' you guys are on FIRE!!!

I think when this bad boy comes around I'm going to have to split my classics display in two: Pre- and Post-movie. It's getting way too full already, and I haven't even shipped my Defender yet.

Damn, I'm happy. This is a great year of collecting so far.

P.S. I think the battle base thingamajigger looks a little funky, but it's not the main attraction here. It's pretty cool for what it is anyway. Man, now I feel bad for passing on the G3 trailer, since I'm getting everything else FP.

P.P.S. Also I'm surprised his 'helmet' is a whole new head, complete with face. Makes sense I guess. His original pinhead's pretty lame.

Hot Rod/Rodimus is my favorite character as well, if you couldn't tell from my screen name I'm glad I have 3 classic Hot Rods and Henkei.

Yah, buddy! Lookin' sweet. Unfortunately I have to buy a second Hot Rod 'cuz the rifle stem got busted. Or maybe I can find a loose one somewhere out there and just drill out the hole in the back of the vehicle.

He's still going to have very limited shoulder movement and his legs will be very badly misproportioned. It looks good but won't be on my shelves.

Actually, the writing for the character(s) in the movie was actually pretty good. He totally came out of the movie looking awesome, and then Flint Dille and the rest of creative thought that a whiny, moping good guy leader would be popular with the fandom.

Season 3 - "Why did I have to be the chosen one?"

As for what figure will look better in the armor, don't we really have to see the final colors on it first? City Commander is a little different as it covers most of the fig but on this one we're going to have see how it matches up. In a prefect world, Classics HR would become Rodimus because he's darker in color and that matches G1 Rodimus more (Hot Rod was always a brighter color in comparison)

Proving once again that Fansproject is the king of the hill here.

A couple things: his hands look a bit on the small side, and his trademark yellow 'wings' are not really visible with the larger bot mode.

Still very impressive though.

I was having a pretty crappy day until I saw this bit of news! Awesome. I CANNOT wait! I have the classics one, now I need the Henkei version!

My jaw was found in china five minutes after the post. It's great but the handle on the gun broke on mine and is hanging by a small piece of plastic because its a pain in the ass to remove from under the veichle. I'm afraid super glue will interfere with the hand.

my only gripe is the same as originaldave77, the wings arent very prominent in robot mode. maybe they will give an addon clip for the wings?

or would that be part of a possible booster set released later on?

With this he'll finally have the pose-ability to get out of that permanent constipated look he has.
The way they fixed his ugly gun kinda made me laugh.

Ya know a good reason behind that could because, well a good portion fandom absolutely hated him.
It was his fault that Optimus prime died after all, or at least it would seem that way to the kiddies.

So they decided to make him look like an idiot after that, getting worse and worse up until Primes eventual revival. Which was the point where they made him look like the biggest moron ever.

"Ultra Magnus, we have to retrieve Optimus's body! Put him where he can rest in peace!"

"But that's what my father wants you to do! It's a trap!"

"I don't care..."

Of course, they also made Galvatron into a nut case by dipping him in plasma for some reason...

Actually pretty much all of season 3 besides "The Return of Optimus Prime" was already written by the time the movie hit theaters.

There was also no Optimus Prime toy out that year or planned for the near future, so sales of toys were going to depend on a lot on how cool Rodimus was or wasn't.

I liked Rodimus as a kid. Never had a problem with him and I thought the flames were totally rad.

Wow, I'm loving how the design of this add on looks less cumbersome than City Commander. I definitely think I'll be picking this up.

It's a pretty sweet idea that's for sure, although I'm not sure if it looks quite right. I realise it's not exactly a part of Rodimus Prime, but I'm still hoping for a Firebolt-style Targetmaster.
