FIFA World Cup 2026 Soccer/Football

Norway 2 - Cote d'Ivoire 1
France 3 - Sweden 0
Mexico 2 - Ecuador 0
.
Watched Mexico vs Ecuador. Match delayed by an hour due to weather. What a home ground advantage in Mexico City. The crowd was electrifying in their support for Mexico. And it translated to goals. A goal on either side of hydration break of 1st half. Tempers flared towards the end of the match given the high stakes. And with that red cards.
Teams exiting tournament:
No ivory tower for Cote d'Ivoire
No Eden for Sweden
No equalizer for Ecuador.

England 2 - DR Congo 1
Belgium 3 - Senegal 2
USA 2 - Bosnia & Herzegovina 0
.
Kane comes to England's rescue yet again. Dude's having a wonder tournament.
Yankees gets red card in 2nd half & still manages to score a second goal with a man down. Unbelievable. Some are saying no way to red card, but I didn't have a problem with it.
Congo joins the conga line of teams exiting the tournament.
Senegal out.
Bosnia & Herzegovina 'both' out.

Spain 3 def Austria 0
Portugal 2 def Croatia 1
Switzerland 2 def Algeria 0
.
Croatia hard done by imo.
.
Austria, not to be confused with Australia, yodeling out of the competition.
Croatia crowing their loss.
Algeria's defence had more holes than Swiss cheese, also gone.

France 1 def Paraguay 0
Morocco 3 def Canada 0

Didn't watch any matches today. Been busy spammed with Murica 250th memes.
.
Co-host with the most Canada swept out of the tournament.
Paraguay parachute out, too.

Norway 2 def Brazil 1
England 3 def Mexico 2
.
Norway & Brazil goalkeepers had a spectacular performance with many saves, including from the penalty spot. The score didn't reflect the true nature of the match as Brazil got a consolation penalty goal in 90+ minutes.
The England & Mexico match was delayed for an hour due to bad weather. But when it started it was a cracker! England scored the first 2 world class goals in quick succession. Then Mexico clawed one back just before half time. Game on! But then England got a red card foul. And that pretty much killed off the momentum of the high class game. England still managed to score through a penalty to lead 3-1. Game over. But no, Mexico made it 2-3 from a dubious Kane penalty foul. It was all defending from England to keep it 3-2 winners.
.
In other 'news', American Balogun who was suspended due to red card infringement is now allowed to play tomorrow against Belgium after the White House intervened and made a call to FIFA.

Spain 1 def Portugal 0
Belgium 4 def USA 1
.
Didn't watch the Spain vs Portugal match. But the pick of the match was the much anticipated USA vs Belgium.
Belgium striked first, striked hard, no mercy goal inside the first 10 minutes. America equalized from a free kick just outside the box, which took a deflection from the Belgian wall. It didn't last. Belgium scored again, carving open USA's defence with a simple header.
In the second half, it was calamity Jane moment with the US keeper caught napping with the ball & conceding a third goal. The match was pretty much over then. Belgium scored a fourth classy goal.
.
So, all three host teams have bundled out. Canada, Mexico, USA.
USA downloaded to USB stick.
Portugal sent through a portal back home.
.
USA is out. But one phone call could change all that...

Switzerland 0 def Colombia 0 (Switzerland win on Penalty shootout 4-3)
Argentina 3 def Egypt 2
Switzerland & Colombia game was a fizzer so won't take up any more space.
Egypt was heading to the Quarter finals leading by 2-0, with just over 10 minutes in regular time. Messi (Argentina) had missed a penalty kick & Egypt had a goal disallowed leading up to this. But Argentina scored 3 goals in quick succession to win 3-2.
.
Colombia curtain closed.
Egypt ejected.
.
No matches tomorrow. Then it's Quarter finals.

France 2 def Morocco 0
Mbappe misfires penalty shot but scores France's first goal. France looks the real deal. And first team into the Semi-finals.
.
Morocco marched out of the tournament.

Spain 2 def Belgium 1
Belgium already on the backfoot before the start of the match when injury during warm up caused a change to the starting line up. A blunder by the Belgian keeper allowed Spain to score the crucial second goal.
.
No Belgian chocolates.

Yesterday's match results.
England 2 def Norway 1 (extra time)
Argentina 3 def Switzerland 1 (extra time)
Norway denied a goal from a corner kick due to foul by Haaland in the box.
Switzerland match was a lot closer than the score suggest. It's a shame the Switzerland footballer took a dive to pick up a second yellow card (aka red card) & was sent off. They had to do with one less player for an hour, inclusive of extra time.
.
Norway no way.
Switzerland neutral-ized.

Argentina 2 def England 1
Oh boy, Argentina does it again, scoring twice late in the match. England had themselves to blame. Playing defence hoping to hold onto a 1-0 lead. And subing off the attacking players.
.
England & the knights of the round ball still searching for the holy grail since '66.
.
The one match to rule them all on Sunday (local time):
Spain vs Argentina
Will it be Spain? Or will it be pain?
Will Argentina be champions? Or will they lose like they did with the Falkland Islands? Oh, touchy subject.

England 6 def France 4
What an entertaining match. Both teams got the memo to leave defence at home. England score 4-0 by half time, including an opening goal in the first few minutes.
Mbappe leads the all time goal scorer but Messi has the opportunity to add to his tally tomorrow in the match that really matters.

Spain 1 def Argentina 0
Pretty lack lustre match compared to yesterday's 10 goalfest. A real blight on the tournament with the shambolic behavior of some Argintine players physically attacking their opponents AFTER the match.
.
So that's a wrap.
Spain wins it's second World Cup.
Mbappe holds onto Golden Boot.
Messi looks to retire from World Cup campaigns. Or is it?
Australia did it's nation proud in progressing beyond the Group stage... and exits stage left the very next match.
Thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread.
