This may be a stupid question but I don't know much about Transformers and I was wondering if the Encore: #23 Fortress Maximus is exactly the same as the one issued back in 1987.
I was planning to get one for my husband because it was his favorite toy when he was a kid and his mom sold it. He talks about it all the time and I came across a page saying they are reissuing it and decided to ask for some advice.
Hope you could help me out and thanks in advance.

Thank you TulioDude!

Don't forget
Painted optics plus two "Master swords"
And more or less his screws will be flat rivets.

Aww, thanks! This makes me feel even better about ordering it. I'm also pretty sure he has no idea that a re-issue came out and if he did he would've told me about it for sure.

Wow that's awesome. My girlfriend always complains about how it's impossible to do research on what Transformers to get me and I would have to give her a list. -_- I shall show her this post! =D

Lol! Thanks. All I had to go on was he got it as a kid and it was the biggest transformer made and it was like a fort. So I just assumed it was Gen 1 but I was overwhelmed with all the search results and finally found something on Fortress Maximus. Then I came across a post that it was being re-issued after going to ebay and feeling like I didn't know how I was going to choose among the more expensive options. So I figured I could get help from the experts and posted here. That's something you could tell your girlfriend to do if she really wants to buy you something. Talk to the ones who know all about it.

Don't announce it to him just yet of your intent to buy one..............Fortmax is more or less sold out already at this time( his release was already been delayed by a few months already). Hopefully you do find one, so good luck (try to avoid ebay scalper prices)
P.S. If you're the real deal..........your husband is ONE lucky guy!

So the only reason to buy it is if you are a Geewun fanatic, or if you have a ninibot/micromasters display to make.
Generations Metroplex is coming out and will blow Fortmax out of the water. Plus, it will fit perfectly with Cyberverses. Also, around 120$ max.
At least for me, it's Metroplex all the way.

FM Was desgined in 1987, when plastics didn't break when you looked at it funny. Metroplex has not been released yet and we don't know how solid this guy will be and what materials will be used.

It's a risky statement (for as far as our nerdproblems go)to state that Metroplex will blow Max out of the water. FM Was desgined in 1987, when plastics didn't break when you looked at it funny. Metroplex has not been released yet and we don't know how solid this guy will be and what materials will be used. FM's degin and materials have been known since 1987, so he has the upper hand for now.
Aside from that, for me personally, Max is a grail which I wanted for 13 years now, Metroplex looks awesome, but does not have the grail-factor going for him (yet).
