This documentary was originally inspired by my fascination and admiration of my father's work at Hasbro and his legacy surrounding GI Joe. Over the past 2 years, we travelled together all over the country filming interviews with designers, sculptors, engineers, marketers, executives and 2 national GI Joe conventions. Old friends were reunited, stories and time graciously shared and now through months and months of editing the story is unfolding, revealing it's epic scope and beauty.
Code Name: Blast Off is comprised mostly of interviews with the creative team who share their story of GI Joe - A Real American Hero. Follow the thread from Hasbro's inner most circle chronicling the mid to late 70's when the idea found it's way to the surface in the most amazing way, to the astounding [Multi Billion Dollar] 1980's come back that almost never happened.
Hundreds of photos from Ron Rudat's personal collection of polaroids and candid shots are woven throughout this feature length film.
See artifacts from the days before computers, where almost everything was done by hand and hear first hand accounts filled with passion, detail and emotion. Discover insights into the inspiration and imagination that brought GI Joe back to life, turning an iconic brand into a worldwide cultural phenomena.
Supreme Convoy wrote:I don't know if it was posted earlier in the thread but I just learned about Code Name: Blast Off, a documentary about the development of GI Joe at Hasbro and the people that helped develop the lined.
I've got to get a copy of this!

I've listened to a couple episodes and i like what you guys are doing with it, when I finally have a free day to catch up, I'll listen to more.
No not yet..... Zellers is horrible, you know that they are getting things but there is no rhyme or reason to when stuff shows up on shelves. When they had the Target specials (just wave 2) they appeared a couple months after US release. Heck even their big clearance sale the other month when a lot of us were grabbing Rhinos for $20 started a week before anything was advertised, they are that disorganized. The sale/crossover to Target/Wal*Mart isn't helping matters much either.
I have 3 locations I am keeping an eye on so hopefully I can grab at least one for myself, and if they don't price jack them like every other Hasbro exclusive I'll see what I can do for others.
Look what I got in the mail yesterday!

Editor wrote:Considering that about the same age I burned a hole in my bed trying the read under the covers with a lamp way to powerful to be using (in retrospect of course) If I'm not a bit understanding the kid's grandparents will be sure to remind me.
And thanks Numbers, I just hope next year when I'm aware at all hours that some of you will be online to chat with.
Now story time. Rug. Fire. What's the deal there?

Remember the time difference, bud! I'm in Montreal, Chuck's in New York, and you're in BC. Whether you're East Side or West Side, we're on your side.
As for the story time, I'll let Robert Zemeckis and Bob Gale tell ya that one. The setting the rug in fire is a Back to the Future reference. It's the last line Marty says to George and Larraine in 1955. Whenever friends are expecting a kid or getting married, I usually drop that line. Someone told me one of his sons set the backyard on fire once. Not sure how that happened!

If I ever needed to rob someone, having their phone tell me they're not home would be a very worthwhile ally.
