Delta Magnus has some red symbols on the trailer and the shoulders of the inner robot.
While Powered has no symbols whatsoever since... well he predates Autobots and Deceptions.
Would it be very terrible if the autobot logos on the cab and maybe the inner robot shoulders were red instead of light purple? Would it somehow not be SG Magnus without a purple faction symbol?
I think a lot of people would consider a figure with completely wrong faction symbols to be a HUGE problem, especially in a line where the faction symbols are often the only difference between two characters.
The head replacement option is a simple modification. If they were able to modify the headmaster gimmick on Mindwipe to make it a permanently attached head for Draculus, I'm sure they can do the reverse and modify the head on Magnus to make it removable.
There's no such thing as simple modifications when it comes to making molds. Removing Draculus' and Super Megatron's headmaster gimmicks meant entirely retooling the chest and adding hinges so that the heads can hide inside their bodies now. That isn't simple and far more than anything we've seen in SG so far where at best we've had new heads (at least one of which they'll use later for a G1 Goldbug) and a bunch of accessories for Megatron that don't require the figure itself being modified. SG UM would either require two new heads, one regular and one removable, be it the internal head, armor head, or both if they're going for double duty. Alternatively they could use one head with two faces that sandwich over the neck peg, either way it's a lot of extra parts and it's hard to predict what Hasbro thinks is worth the tooling.
They did much more than that for Megatron. So adding parts and retooling is not beyond the realm of possibility.
He only got all that because he was a Takara Tomy Selects, only time Hasbro does anything that excessive with an exclusive is the crossover stuff because of the chance at a cross sell between fandoms. Definitely not going to see anything like that in SG.
Also, it would only really need to be the inner robot's head that has to go from emaciated skull face to regular. The armored head can be the traditional Magnus head.
If they're going for his most recognizable look it would really have to be the armor that has the damaged head since that's the colors he's known for. Plus his inner bot will also be blue, it wouldn't be white so things are that much more confused.
Also as has been mentioned none of the SG releases so far have been exact copies of their Funpub selves, so no reason to expect Magnus to be that accurate to the original.
Megatron is off, but they put a lot of work into trying to make it right and they'll probably use the armor again some other time to make it worth it. Blurr isn't the right body, but they don't exactly have a second use available for the mold and there aren't any molds that suit the original SG look currently so at least they gave us the right new head. Goldbug will definitely be reused as G1 Goldbug in Legacy plus they needed a second Deluxe for the line, not a third Voyager if they went the Hot Rod rout. Starscream and Jetfire are perfect as far as I'm concerned.
