I am talking something we could do like the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild or Oscars. Letting the factions and players vote yearly on awards to be given out to the people that currently play the game. Kind of like an award ceremony for those who gave something extra to the game over the past year and made it that much more enjoyable for everyone.

No, initially I was wanting awards for the last six years, but I know there's a lot of opposition towards players who have left (something which I don't think is deserving) so I conceeded that rather than ranting and raving trying to get my point across, to just change it to try to accommodate the most logical way to celebrate the past six years.

Well how about the Hall of Fame for the past six years and then an ongoing awards annually or bi-annually for the current players?

That's pretty much what I said.

Though it doesn't need to be a Hall of Fame. Just a thing for people to look at and go "oh hey, I remember that person, he was a dick, in fact, he still is and they made him a Mod! Damn you War Hammer!!!"

I'm all for having the first round of awards for the pre-reset crowd, and letting all the other ones be for the post-reset crowd. It's only fair that the past five or six years is given at least some modicum of reminiscence, rather than being paved over by what will, given V2's progress, end up as a flash in the pan compared to the previous state of things. One pre-reset awards dealie can't be that contentious an issue, if everyone actually looks at it fairly rather than coming at it wtih a "hey, I wasn't a big dog then!" attitude. I wasn't a big dog for most of it either, yanno. I'm gonna grab another beer.

Yea, That's a great idea. They deserve having their HMW time documented and remembered, for posterity's sake.

My only point was that HMW is still being played and allthose that are playing now should be included in the festivities not because of ego, but because they've earned it...regardless of where they stand in the rankings.

There are some seriously dedicated players of all factions that are here a LOT.

Because.....? Answer me that Padawan.

Also, if voting is going to happen in faction forums *ahem, nag, ahem* please help me have that access - otherwise can the voting be entirely GD until forum access is guaranteed working for all?

Second also, if we're voting pre-reset, I'll need to cast my votes as a Bot; I'm sure I'm not the only one who's crossed-factions.

Lastly, this is awesome, the whole dang thing.

I don't really like the idea of voting in faction forums, since they aren't trafficked as much. And I figure voting would be done based on current faction - I mean, I spent four years as a Decepticon but I'm very strongly Predacon now.

What if voting be done via PM, so that way it stays a bit secret until the results are tallied and the winners told? And i know PM boxes can only handle like 100 PM's and someone's could get overflooded, but you could have people send in their votes to say 2 or 3 people.

And on the subject of only active players for this pre-reset nominating, i would agree with having something, be it a "wall of legends" "hall of fame" or whatever, because someone i had in mind to nominate for two of those categories has stepped away indeffinately and no idea they are returning for V2.

My post had absolutely nothing to do with a "beastly ego". It had everything to do with the fact that there are many extraordinary players that have dedicated their time to V1 post-reset. Conjorous, nightelfcrawler, Revenge of Starscream, KYAC, Max_Prime, to name just a few.

6 years vs 4 months is a bit of a difference in time. But according to you, time is not supposed to be a defining factor is it?

I'm sure if this idea goes ahead, everyone who deserves to be remembered will be rightfully remembered. Its not the time or the xp, its about contribution to the community.

How about this:

We run a "HMW War Room" induction for everything that has happened over the past six years pre-reset. Make that our "Hall of Fame". This will include many different aspects of the past six years. This one will be voted on in private by the moderators. The “HMW War Room” will be posted as an announcement permanently. Instead of having the best of or the worst of I just thought we could take nominations with a description of why he/she/it should be inducted. This could include Players, Bots, Bios, Server Crashes, Changes in the game, Tournaments, Programmers and anything else deemed to be worthy of induction. Not only will this let all of us who have been here since the dawn of time remember what happened back in the day, but it will show the newer players where the game has been in it’s past.

Then starting sometime soon here we can start running the “HMW Players Awards” I still think it should run just annually. Sure it’s only once a year, but earning one shouldn’t be easy and it should mean that whoever has earned one has shown a bit of dedication to the reason they have earned it. I don’t feel it should be something that is given out so often, I feel that would deaden the meaning of it. Hopefully OS could fix the faction boards so that faction voting could occur. I understand the argument that people just don’t go into those forums very much, but some of it has to be because of access. I’m hoping that this kind of thing will stimulate those forums and players.

What would we call this?

Oh I forgot to add ... as people win the Annual awards they are automatically inducted into the War Room. That way their achievement is enshrined in there for future players to see and older players to remember upon.

I like the Rice-Cies, but alot of newer people won't understand it I don't think. Even if explained to them I don't think they will fully grasp it. Plus do we really want to give credit to what he did, even in a sense of sarcasm?

As for the time frame I still think it should be yearly. I feel it should take that level of dedication to get one. While I understand the idea of getting them out to more players, I see that deadening the meaning of getting one. How special of an award is it if everyone gets one? I think once a year gives some real bragging rights.

Rice-Ci was once the top player in the game, and helped to define several months of metagaming with his revolutionary tactics and approach to playing. I feel these awards could easily be named in his honour.
