I do second having the option to see your alt modes before you choose sides. A lot of the beasty/squishy alts. are just to cute for the most part. Thats one of the reasons I stick to Gewunn!

Finally hit 500!

I rezzent that.
Anyway, it's a shame we don't have more players overall, as the logical thing to do in that case would be to go WWi: Darkages style and divide the Autobots and Decepticons up further, because part of the problem, I think, is that "Autobot" and "Decepticon" have been the factions for all but two series. Given one of those was the best series, but hey, there's no accounting for taste. I think you guys are overestimating the impact of Geewunners on the Autobot/Decepticon factions - I imagine the A/E/C series has nearly as much of an impact, and maybe even the movie. Edit: Ah, Red beat me to it.
But it's m00t, because we really don't have a high enough membership to do that, and even if we did, everyone would say 'if four factions are bad, six will just be worse!'

It's not like nearly all the serieses of transformers werent bot v con...
There's only BW, BM and bits of RiD which arnt Bot v Con.
Anyway, you could veyr much argue that myself and JP are Geewuners, and we keep coming back to the preds!
As am I. I dust off my old autobot insignia every once in while. I think most of us who went Maximal or Pred are very much G1ers.

You're right six factions would be worse. Could be fun though if membership were to go up.
However if we went that way we could potentially either auto assign folks based on who's weakest, or take away the ability to choose a specific side, rather have them choose a general side and put them into whichever faction had the least amount of members.
Another thought would be to make most of the missions alliance missions, like what we had against the Quints. Only make them Auto/Maxi/? Vs Decep/Pred/?.
Sorry for the Question marks, I'm not really familiar with the newer comics. I blame the lack of a local comic shop.

You mean their lack of foresight in not producing Beast Wars first, right?

this is true. they toys where better, the cartoon was better. but they just don't have the iconic status. and haven't been reinforced for the last decade.
it would be interesting to see how many beast players are beast playes becuase they want to be, or becuase they want to balance the game.
i think if we ever decide to have beasts again it would be a good idea to just make it semi symbolic, maybe alt modes and and faction symbol, and see how many takers we get before initialis additional independant factions...

the toys were better? G1 had toys made of die-cast, plastic and rubber wheels. BW had plastic fur.. PLASTIC.. it's on the scale of plastic rock-formers.

I completely agree. The G1 toy's were by far, BY FAR, the better product.

G1 had the diversity that is missing from all other lines. There were not just animals, there were trucks, tape decks, guns, dinosaurs, cities, and the widest selection of jets and cars ever produced.
Beast Wars was awesome on animal alts, yes, but got to a point where almost everything in that line was made, some even got to a silly level (bunnies, tanukis, giraffes).

Modern Soundwave and Megatron figures are NOTHING compared to the solid feel of the 80's toys. The innovation required to hand design and craft them (as early as the late 70's in Diaclone Megatron's case), compared to the computer designed flexi-toys we have now, blows the current plastic crap away.
And the BW cartoon may be great, but I always prefer the bad animation and constant hilarious errors that is the G1 series.

Beast Wars took an important first step towards how the modern toys are designed, with the ball joints.
Same with the cartoon. The Beast Wars had astounding storytelling with great animation and semi-mature themes. G1 had "The Girl Who Loved Powerglide." Case closed.

Broke far easier?? There has never been another line toys like the G1 figures. You could've chucked Prime at your buddy's head, concussed him, and still had Prime in prestine shape.
My first Soundwave took an absolute beating and is still kicking around today (with a tape deck door that still functions). Broke far easier...whatever.

all put G1 toys ahead for me before you include the nostalgia factor.
With the cartoon though its hard to put G1 before BW. The tightknit cast alone pushed it ahead.

Someone else said there was a lot of variety in the Gen 1 lines, more then any other... I disagree. There was more figures in Gen 1, but what? One 3rd of the toys were repaints? And the Gen 1 line also covers more then 3 seasons.

My mom broke Prime and Outback. My friend broke Trypticon, and I broke Skylynx. All four lost legs, except tripticon who's thing that connected his leg to his arm snapped. That's just things dealing with the legs.
In comparison, my clutz girlfriend hasn't broken a single transformer, not even a missle. She's lost stuff, but since Prime's hands were long gone before my mom snapped his legs off.

Are you kidding? If you chucked (or even dropped) Prime at least one of his legs would have snapped off. The plastic connecting his diecast body and diecast lower legs wasn't that sturdy. Soundwave was fairly sturdy but you couldn't say that for most of the Autobot cars, the Frenzy/Rumble tapes, the Seeker jets, etc.

Soundwave.
I have Soundwave and feel comfortable saying that all of those faults apply to him, albeit less than they do to the other G1 figures. Compared to modern figures, his range of motion is still pathetic, and in robot mode it looks like his cartoon counterpart got caught in a hydraulic press. He's like the Flat Stanley of Transformers. I love him, really, but it's for the nostalgia, not the engineering.
Also:
Diecast = Bad - No stress tolerance. Amazing how fragile metal really is. Plus they rusted.
Rubber Wheels = Very Bad - They dried up, cracked, and tore.
Sure G1 toys felt great when they were new, but after two years of actually being handled, they'd be junk.
And also, animals are way cooler than cars and tanks, especially from a storytelling perspective, since things with faces can actually emote without resorting to Disney-style antics. Plus, animals tear eachother apart, instead of just running into eachother or shooting generic beams of light at eachother. The second episode of Beast Wars where Megatron actually bites a chunk out of Primal's leg - ****ing awesome.
Edit: And then there's also the fact that the designers were too lazy to actually work all the TF's parts into the design. Where do Soundwave's missiles go when he transforms? Starscream's fists? Most of the toys' weapons? Prime was ahead of most because he actually had a compartment to store his fists in, but that wasn't likely to help.
As far as Prime's durability, that might work if you rolled Powermaster Prime's cab section into 'ball form' and dropped it on your friends head while he was laying on a mattress. And your friend's head was very soft. The original Prime had weakass joints.
