The Autobots should have been deaslt a near crippling blow with maybe the chance of destroying the Sun Harvester but not the Fallen himself and let him and the Autobots run in opposite directions to lick their wounds and let Prime be resurrected and the final fight occur in TF3. Maybe if Jetfire had been spared in RotF his advice and wisdom would have been useful in leading the Autobots, in conjunction with Ironhide and Lennox, until Prime could be brought back. The Government would have been shown that Prime was right and their presence was needed and was not the cause of the Decepticons coming to Earth and the United Military forces along with the Autobots could have made for an Epic "Return of the Jedi" style final battle against the Fallen and his army.

That would have worked really well ... now instead, they will have to introduce another enemy, try to build him up as an even bigger threat than The Fallen and defeat him all in one movie ... so basically RTOF all over again just with more of everything.

I agree. They pretty much shot their wad prematurely and made it more difficult to transition into the 3rd movie. This movie started out in the right direction as far as picking up where the first movie left off. However, the back half of the movie turned it into almost a "second and final episode". Was it because there is a possibility that the writers are leaving? I thought I read that possiblility somewhere. If they thought/knew it was their last TF movie, then maybe that's why they didn't treat it as a piece of a "trilogy" like in Star Wars or The Matrix, or whatever.

which leaves us with the polar possibilities of the 3rd movie either being really good or really bad. What's left?? I keep getting this weird feeling that Prime will die and Sam will die in some weird way and they'll remake him as a robot and he'll thus be 'the new Hot Rod.' The way ROTF was -it makes me think that. Please don't do this writers. That will be the final nail in the coffin of our beloved franchise if so.

At this point, after reviewing all posibilities I am left with only one logical conclusion as to a partial plot point of TF3.
That being that the Decpticons are going to crash Sam and Mikelas wedding. It will be an outdoor wedding (need room for the "Best Man" to be in robot mode and the rest of the Autobots to bear witness. Wheelie will be the "flower-bot") on a beautiful cliff overlooking the ocean. Absolutely stunning view with the sun in the backdrop behind the happy couple and the minister...and then we will see Starcream coming in straight outta the sun. Megatron will come busting outta thetreline behind the wedding guests, who will be scrambling for their lives in all directions and Prime will split out of his size 114 Tux reaching for his hand cannon as all hell breaks loose.

What?? Couldn't possibly suck any worse than anything they may have in the backs of their minds for it already. :P

This is just keeps getting better and better. The ratings board is going to have a field day with TF3.

Actually, I haven't seen it and know practically nothing about it. I'm guessing I'm not far off though. Just seemed like a beautiful, picture perfect moment worthy of being devastated by a head on view of an incoming F-22. (I've got 'marriage' issues)

Lol. Well, I will say FF2 was better than the first. Some completely hated them, but I thought they were watchable, esp. the sequel.

Maybe they won't have to introduce another enemy, but just upgrade one. I have a feeling in the next movie, Megatron will become Galvatron. I know it's an overused TF plot point, but it seems logical for the next movie. Megatron has been roundly beaten twice by now, one of those resulting in his death. He will no doubt be extremely desperate now (and maybe a tad nuts), with the added humiliation of having his face partially destroyed by Prime. He might do as Prime did with Jetfire, but combine permanantly with the Fallen's remains and become Galvatron.

I do like how the comic adaptation handled the ending a little more than the movie. The Fallen Promised Megatron he would make him a prime if he helped him. Once Optimus is powered up The Fallen realizes he is no match and tries to escape. Optimus prevents that. Optimus informs Megatron that being a prime is something you are born with and can't be earned. The Fallen begs Megatron to help him but, Megatron refuses and leaves Optimus to kill The Fallen.
I think that makes Megatron alot less like the neutered bot he was in the movie. I don't know why they choose to do it the way they did. Also the Fallen doesn't show himself to the Humans (On TV through Soundwave's hack), Megatron does, because the fallen is trapped in another dimension or something.

Personally I think they showed the fallen too early and too often and ruined the mystery of him. He should have had a longer fight against the humans too. Same goes for Devastator. Needed more screen time.

I hope they learned their lesson for number 3.

Keep in mind that the writers specifically said that, in their opinion, the secret to a good sequel is making it a full movie on its own, and not planning it to be part 2 of a trilogy. In other words, it doesn't have that foreboding that Empire and other solid 2nd movies had... because it wasn't intended to build towards a 3rd movie.
I understand where they're coming from, but I still don't like it and really would've preferred that this was meant to lead directly into a third movie.

My biggest issue with this movie, besides all of the many plot holes, was the final battle. After so much buildup, and ONLY A PRIME CAN DEFEAT THE FALLEN... Prime just beats him up. Really quickly. Nothing special to it. Sideswipe or Ironhide could've probably done the same, if they'd had Jetfire's rockets to get in close and his gun to take the first shot or two... Very disappointing.

Oh, for whoever it was that mentioned that they would've liked to have seen Megatron and Starscream return to the other Decepticons at the end, this is exactly what happened in the comic book. They returned to the Nemesis and began plotting at the end. Not sure about the novel, as I haven't finished it yet, but it might be there too, since the novel does a pretty solid job of filling in plot holes and adding necessary details.

Most of the complaints have to do with the waste of the budget on certain things that didn't really add to the movie. There was a lot of rendering for Alice that just seemed wasteful. They had plenty for budget, but they might not have used the money as effectively as they needed to.

I humbly submit that perhaps the writers were wrong. A good sequel has to do both--keep some continuity from the first into it, and leave room open for a third. They totally didn't learn that lesson from the first movie--they left themselves totally shut off so they had to start from scratch, plotwise, really. And they did it again here.

They've tied up so many loose ends that whatever poor bastard ends up writing the third, they've preemptively screwed him. The only possible line we have open is the Decepticon energon shortage.

I honestly think they totally underused the Fallen. As others of y'all of mentioned, he wasn't that tough to defeat and he really wasn't even that scary. That's like if Lucas pulled out a Sith and had someone beat him with a Twinkie. Now that they've blown the Big Guns of the mythos, they've really left writers with Galvatron/Unicron, or (and this will stir the fan hatred) GASP, something COMPLETELY ORIGINAL.

HK, originality? In Hollywood? Surely I jest.

I'd just be worried they would ruin Unicron like Fox did with Galactus in Fantastic Four ROTSS. All this talk about him and he is a cloud..

Galvatron wasn't done because they thought the general public might get confused. A Simple line can solve that though. Observe..

Megatron returns from somewhere and lands.
Starscream- What can I do to serve you lord Megatron?
Megatron- Megatron is no more. I require a new name.. From this day on I shall be known as Galvatron!

Serious, the only similarities between Megatron from the first movie, and ROTF, is their head.

Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings started the 3part movie combo pack trend. It really was a gamble but he pulled it off.
