How to paint my Barrciade?

Postby Dalek94 » Fri Jan 02, 2009 4:10 pm

I recently purchased by accident the movie deluxe edition Recon Barricade and regret my mistake and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to repaint it, what paint to use, how to draw on the decepticon logo and and other things?

Thanks

ive only done a hand full of repaints so far but as for paints the water based acrylic stuff from games workshop has yet to fail me... might take a couple of coats to cover any details that are already there.. but its fairly cheap and comes in plenty of colours.

alot of people use testors or tamiya but i dont have much experience with either or these..

as for tips.. make sure your brushes are clean and well looked after.. try and plan or draw out what you wanna repaint him as or with what colours.. as for the decpticon logo id say reprolabels is your best bet.. saves alot of hassle trying to make your own stickers or transfers..

most importantly, if you get stuck or have any other questions.. just ask! thats what these forums are here for! :)

LOL guess you read my other post then!

Paints: some people swear by car primer as an undercoat. It's supposed to make the paint more durable. I don't know if it does. I don't think it really matters what paint you use if you put a hard-wearing clear varnish over the top. I use Humbrol model paints and Games Workshop paints. GW paints are water based and easier to clean off the brush.

Brushes: you'll need a tiny tiny brush for details and a larder brush for covering larger areas.

Decepticon logo: don't draw it, that;ll be impossible! I believe you can get sheets of logos at http://reprolabels.com/.

I'd recommend buying a cheap plastic car or two to practise and make mistakes on. But painting TFs could become your new hobby!

hey, I'm doing Premium Barricade at the moment. he's more fun to repaint than i thought.
If you are going to completely repaint him, go to the store and get some Isoprophyl and CLEAN him first. so you dont see the old logos through your new paint. because he's blue and grey plastic it might be necessary to use a white or black primer. so he has one color.
-just take him a part and put him in a jar of isoprophyl for a night and the next day the paint should come right off with a cloth or toothbrush (caution:don't use your own toothbrush)

Cover the widows on both sides so you can't get any paint on them and airbrush him in car mode, so you get a nice even color..
take him apart to do the robot mode, It will also be easier to add detail. (be careful, his legs contain some very small parts.)
A good thing to do is to put a glossy(or matte) translucent coating
after every layer of paint so the paint is well protected.

think layers!

On reprolabels you'll find the needed logos for barricade, but you'll need 2 different sets. (because every set they have is not complete.)
Personally I prefer decals, because its easy to make them yourself, and they blend better with the paint after adding a protective coating, In most cases you can't see the edges anymore . A sticker will always look like something that was added later on.

But Barricade is black and making white prints on decals is almost impossible these days so stickers will be the way to go..

have to work now, good luck

I don't consider it cheap - Humbrol is cheaper.
Humbrol: requires white spirit and washing-up liquid to clean off brushes.
games Workshop: washes off with water. If the paint has dried on the brush, wash it off with water and washing-up liquid.

Transtopia recommends using a thin paint applied in thin layers as it dries with less visible brush strokes. This means several layers are needed.
