I can!
It’s just a matter of what we grew up with and what we enjoy. When I think “Starscream”, I think of this design before the blue and red F-15, but I know that most people are probably more familiar with the G1-style appearance.
That’s a huge part of what I like so much about the Bay movies - They went all out in creating awesome, super detailed reimaginings of characters that - while retaining some hints of the originals - really let the designers get creative and do something new (and IMO way cooler).
I feel like I'm in an interesting spot because, I really do not like most of the movie designs in the actual movies (I feel like they're overdesigned), but put them in toy form, even Masterpiece toy form, and (by necessity of making the design into a toy) they're simplified juuuuuuuuuuust enough that they become much more interesting to look at, the "broad strokes" of the design start to stand out more against the smaller more granular details. This MPM Starscream is way more enjoyable for me to look at than how the design is in the actual movie itself. Still not what would come to mind immediately as a "good Starscream", but I kind of think of/appreciate the movie designs in their own little bubble.
G2/Action Master/obscure variant-inspired redecos and retools are my lifeblood

I think it has a lot to do with the movement and presentation in the movies, too. Starscream barely got screentime in the films. I'd say that one slow-mo shot of him landing in the first movie was the clearest look at him in 3 films. He was always hunched over, filmed in shaky cam, covered in sparks/explosions, bad lighting, etc. But I think most of the designs look pretty good if the films just give you a chance to look at them. That tattoo thing just made a busy design even busier and didn't help.

I'm hoping this goes up for preorder soon. I want to lock him in. I'm worried that's only available through Target. Wish all e-tailers could carry this guy.

I can too, the movie versions of characters are my default go-to for the designs. They are my favorite.
This figure looks pretty dang good, and I am really impressed with how much articulation they got into him, especially with the chest flexing. That is great!
I will be getting him to add to the MPM shelf. Once I have him, there will only be 4 large and 2 little bots left to complete the 1st movie!

It is a totally new mold. When MPM3 was revealed, there were people convinced it was a retool of a previous leader figure, and it wasn't even close at all.
The MPMs since MPM3 are brand new molds all around, no retooling from older figures.

Do TFSource normally hike up the price of a retailer exclusive like that?

Patience, grasshoppers.
"Exclusive" or not, all MPM found their way to Amazon or Mandarake sooner or later. And like all MPM figures, they inevitably come on sale at some point.
I know my Toys R Us won't deliver because of their Quebec prejudice. So I'll bid my time.

@DeathReviews
People can look at this and say "That's Starscream" because it has the iconic wings and chest cockpit, and also have seen the movies and know that this is the movies' version of Starscream. Get the smeg over it already. After seeing you say that, part of me is wanting this to be the only Starscream we get toys of for the next fifteen years, just to spite people like you.
This Starscream looks to be quite good, frankly, and it's nice to see him work in the engines on the back that the 2010 Leader-class could not.
I hope that his plastic colors and paintwork are refined for the production toy. The colors seen in these photos, and the contrast between the camo paint and the plastic color, end up looking too toylike (the gray of his body is a bit overly pale, and the camo paint looks too blue compared to the real-life F22 camo).
MPM-01 wasn't perfect, but it did do a good job on the colors:

Hopefully the production version of MPM-10 will be that good, or better.

but yeah expecting a perfectly clean jet mode is unnecessary. The robot is the main attraction. The vehicle here looks fine as is, and clearly you don't need to display with the hand weapons attached, thats just a place to store them for vehicle mode if you so wish.
No offence at all.
It's a valid way to display the jets. They usually stand up pretty well! However, the Movie jet cannot stand up like this because of the way it's made. It dosent have a "tripod".
I just love seeing your G1 starscream with the front wheel in his chest. Man I remember doing that as a kid too. Just have to ask, did you order the Wiafu Starscream to go with your collection?

You meant " Starscream-chan ", right?
Unfortunately no. Because she's been in preorder limbo for more than a year and a half already and Corona-chan is not helping.
But once she finally get released, you betcha I'm getting her!

So I see I'm not the only one who stands jets like that. I find it works really well with the SIEGE Tetrajets, lets me pack them in tight together on their storage shelf.
But yeah, movie Starscream being an F-22 means he can't do that. I imagine the same goes for Energon Starscream and G2 Smokescreen.

Truth. I will never again buy a MPM at release time. Every. Single. One. has been found on Amazon later down the road at half off or better.

In a way, yes. I bid that this MPM will get a wide release like all others and will be easy to get on sale.
