It was a light hearted message. There's always something awful happening in life, we buy and collect things to keep ourselves busy and focused on the things we can change

Let me be clear:
Pick your poison. Your mileage may vary. Whatever spins your windmill. If you have the scratch (IE you're not doing harm to yourself or your family because of uncontrolled, compulsive spending... and I know we've all seen it in this hobby, so it's not out of the question) to drop on Unicron? Go for it. If you want to drop over a grand on the five BW MP figures? Go for it. Does it make you happy? Okay! That's my baseline on this hobby despite seeing the negatives in any collecting fandom. I don't know what your income and expenses are.
I've read comments all over about people feeling actual anxiety, stress, and depression over possibly missing out of Unicron either from not being backed or not being able to afford it. This hobby can become addicting. Like any compulsion or addiction, that kind of **** is a sign that you're not addressing some deeper issues; the hobby has become unhealthy. I've seen more than one person not able to make rent or max their credit cards trying to 'catch 'em all.'
Seibertron, TFW, Unicron, all TF fansites. Ya'll report on news about Transformers. That's why we come here (and reviews, pics, columns --- I LOVE the columns on Seibertron, providing more than just basically retweeting ****). There is a distinction between reporting on the news and what has been happening here. "PLEASE PLEDGE. PLEASE BACK. WE CAN DO IT. WE CAN RALLY. HAVE YOU DONE THIS YET HERE'S A LINK?" These sites are doing Hasbro's job for them, not just passing along info. You're doing PR for them! You're advertising for free! You're BEGGING FANS to BUY A TOY. Phrasing it as a cause! As something to "rally" behind! Unicron.com is by FAR the worst... I'm most disappointed to see Seibertron going down this road cos this is by far usually the most even-keeled site of them all (let's not discuss the Allspark's clique lol).
It's disgusting. Consumerism isn't inherently bad but it absolutely has ugliness to it and extremes that ridicule. Unicron itself represents it, but ultimately, if it fails, Hasbro realizes there IS a limit to how much they exploit their fanbase. The current deluxe price is enough of a **** joke as it is.
Whores get paid for their work and it's more legitimate than this ****. Where is your integrity?

Was that all really necessary?
This was excitement, this was us telling everyone where Unicron was at, and this was a message about how we are in the final week.
If you want to talk other issues, fine, that's ok. But this is a Transformers site, not an amazon rainforest or immigrant site. I feel for those issues, and I support them in their areas.
But bringing that here was unnecessary. I mean if that is your opinion fine, but it wasn't necessary.

It's news. Plain and simple. ANY Transformers news posted on fan forums is doing Hasbro PR. In fact, when a news site for ANY fandom shares news, they're doing the parent company of that fandom PR work.
So why single out just this particular instance? Because the news crew have opted to encourage fans to support this? So what? How does it affect YOU personally? Can you not just scroll along and focus on the rest the site has to offer? (Like, there's a new Transtopia round up! go give those creators some love!)
Like you said, there's far more important issues in the world going on at the moment, why worry about this?

If memory serves me Hasbro donates money to charity for every toy sold (even if they have stoopid prices). Sure it's not as much if the person gave directly but seeing as most charities are businessess it's all moot anyway.

If they make 8000+ of this figure, which would happen if the campaign is successful, it wouldn't be a "one of a kind figure."

You're taking in that in the far too literal sense.
He's a one of a kind figure in that he's in a size range of his own. There's nothing else like him out there.

And the Unicron of Light isn't even Unicron, it's a good guy energy duplicate of him made outta tons of Mini-Cons.

OK, I missed that, though the 2010/Amazon figures are at least remolds.

And I know Unicron of Light isn't technically Unicron, I got one on clearance at Amazon Japan, too. Not sure how you missed out on that, I put it in the news.

Yeah, there is a lot of bad **** going on in the world right now.
There was a lot of bad **** in the '80s too.
As well in the '90s, and the last 20 years. There has always been bad ****, and knowing humanity, there always will be. You cannot devote everything to fighting it. You just can't. You'll burn up and die, simple truth. Everyone needs an escape every now and then, and there is nothing wrong with putting your time and resources (safely) into that escape, as long as it hurts no one else.
There are, probably, a lot of good reasons to not want to see this project succeed. Personally, I don't want to see crowdfunding become the standard for official fan oriented items. The amazon on fire is not one of them.
That said, others absolutely have the right to want to see this made, and encourage others (again, safely, without giving bad money advice) who can to support this and get it made. If it fails, they have 100% right to feel sad and let down about it. I may not care about Unicron, but I know for sure if it was a figure/character I actually wanted and it didn't get made, I'd be bummed.
Bad **** may be happening, but the world keeps on spinning. You have no clue what anyone here may or may not be investing their time, money, and energy into so don't you dare blast somebody for wanting something that brings joy or happiness to their life.

Re: Haslab Unicron Discussion Thread
This is the wrong place to talk about irrelevant purchases. TF collecting is one BIG irrelevant purchase. Using the same logic just stop collecting toys altogether and donate to causes.
To me the biggest problem with Unicron is the backing window and, maybe, how they've been marketing it. It'd be much better to have a setup like the photo galleries here - with Galvatron, Cyclonus, and Scourge with it and others to spark the imagination. Maybe a lot of other videos just promoting the Hell outta this.
I agree with everyone saying that there are plenty of small, relatively cheap Unicrons out there for people who want them. Even the original Armada Unicron is a good Unicron all by himself. Even by today's standards he's pretty good articulation wise.

As of 8/26, hasbropulse 3200 + global affiliates 1600 = total ~4800. We need 3000 more!
Calling for those who already backed this project, BUY ANOTHER ONE!
You can always sell one later, probably getting more and absorb the cost of the first one. We don't want this to fail!

Yes? I own Titans Return Fort Max and honestly, if you think that a [giant] Brick from 1987 is in any way superior to a fully articulated Titan Class figure from 2016, personal preferences aside, you are objectively wrong.

Erm..nope.
G1 includes weapons, includes Cog, working lift, city mode, more play features, chest guns. Fairly show accurate, own mold, interacts with legends class figures better
negatives, lack of articulation or electronics
TR Electronics, posability, price/availability, interacts with titan masters (which the old figure can do all be it minus the foot pegs).
negatives, no weapons (even sdcc lacked hand weapons), repurposed mold, lack of play freatures, lack of guns, lack of supporting figure/accessories, lack of its thrid mode -fan mode has to be used or technically as a completly incorrect alt mode
I dont really class the titan combiners as titans but only trypticon was really an improvement in nearly all areas but the old figure still has some advantages. titan metroplex only has size/posability going for him over the orig figure which has more charms than he does.
