BATTOUSAI XD wrote:I'm a big fan of the movies, I thought the first one was great and the second one was good but had plenty of problems. But this is complete ****... I understand why Optimus is so violent; it is a war and it's not a kids cartoon, but why does he have the power to kill everything? He's getting the beatdown and gets saved by Megatron, then tears Megs' head off? This is Megatron! In the first movie it took Prime, a squadron of jets, and SHIA to bring him down; now all Prime has to do is reach up and rip off his head for his collection of assorted body parts. I rarely ever complain about this stuff, but this is just stupid. Optimus has become a super-powered killing machine from ROTF on. There is nothing wrong with having a tough leader who can take down his enemies quickly, but this is not something Optimus Prime would do. Megatron would , but Prime is supposed to be better than that. I know Megatron is a threat, but he could have at least challenged him to a fair fight or imprisoned him. I read the summary of the novel and really liked the ending with Megatron helping Prime kill Sentinel and leaving for Cybertron. That would have set up a good sequel, IMO, involving Galvatron and/or Unicron, but now there are NO MORE Decepticons, Prime killed them all(Bumblebee helped a little). I just don't see any place for a continuation of the story, which I really wanted (might have changed my mind now that I found out about Megatron). I'm still definitely going to see this and I'll probably enjoy it, but those last few minutes when Megatron dies may ruin it, I don't know. My problem is that Decepticons seem to just be cannon fodder and thats it. That's OK if they are some random alien invader like in Battle: LA or whatever else, but my favorite character is a Decepticon, as are many other peoples, and when they get some crappy death, it just leaves a sour taste in your mouth.
Keep in mind that, at this point, Optimus only has one arm and is badly damaged. Megatron is fully armed and unscathed. Yet, he just stands there as Prime rushes him and kills him. He genuinely seemed as shocked as the audience that he offered peace, and Prime's reaction was to lodge an axe into his skull. What makes the whole thing worse is that you realise Prime only flips out after Megatron says he wants peace, but all he asks is to "be in charge". It's as if the idea of peace is acceptable to Optimus, but only if HE is in charge. There's also a scene of Megatron just sitting against a building, staring up at the materializing Cybertron and expressing sincere joy that it has "finally" been saved, shortly before all this...which does NOTHING to put the audience on Optimus' side when he goes all Conan-the-Barbarian on Megs.
And the execution of Sentinel afterwards is in a similar vein. Sentinel is on his knees and defeated, and despite his desperate pleas, Optimus shoots him to death (whereas Sentinel had earlier spared Prime when he had him at his mercy).
I LOVED the movie, but those last 4 minutes were really terrible. The movie itself ends seconds after Sentinel's death, and reeeaally abruptly. Also, I may be mistaken, but there are several shots where Megatron's body is in the foreground, but the same shots are seen in the trailer and his body isn't there (you can't tell it's him, so it's not like it was removed for spoiler purposes). Makes me think that it was originally meant to end like it did in the novel?
