Hugo Weaving to Voice Megatron in Bay's Transformers

Well, I haven't seen either the Matrix or Lord of the Ring Trilogies, not in their entirety anyway, only bits and peices, so I can't really comment on how I think the actor will do, if this is true. Should be interesting to see how a relative unknown will do in the shadow of the two best known voices of Megatron, Welker and Kaye.

Hugo Weaving is a great actor, and if he is involved the quality of this production can only go up. That being said, it would have been amazing if Welker could have reprised the part... that would still be the way I prefer it.
But who knows, maybe Welker will play Starscream or something. We did see him pictured together with Peter Cullen recently, after all...

The fact that we got Cullen is a miracle in itself.
Hugo Weaving is probably the best Non Welker choice we could get. He might be the first thing to go right with Megatron yet. Although I do fell sorry for Frank Welker.
To all the people literally complaining about the complainers:
Its a bit odd and counter intuitive. Yes, there are people that just spew vile hate constantly. However, when news like this hits where people had their hopes up it is bound to upset some people who are invested this much in the fandom. Besides this is a discussion board and people are bound to express their opinions (as long as they stay civil). But, it just seems rude and obnoxious to denounce anyone with a negative take on the latest news as a "crybaby, hater". As everyone knows it doesn't generate good discussion or feelings of respect in the fanbase.

im all for it, (my flatmates, who arn't transformers fans but now know enougth from me yapping on about it think he should be good to) intresting to see what kind of voice he goes for.
and thank you cyber bishop for the pic, thats all ive been thinking of since i read about the news this morning!
on a side note cellshock, weaving played V not just voiced him, he replaced a actor part way through filming and reshot all the scenes. so in many ways it was all voice acting.

NP.. I am glad at least someone noticed it.

Not a sheeple.
Think for yourself, don't let the magic TV box and social media do the thinking for you.
Question EVERYTHING!!
Just because you have a youtube review channel doesn't make you special.
I look forward to attending a Botcon soon only to settle matters with several idiots in person (yes this is a threat).

So you don't like the guy because of the movies he's been in sucked or you don't like the guy because of his acting ability?
I'm a little confused as to WHY you don't like the guy here as your comment wasn't quite clear ...
A little of both actually. LOTR was great, yet for the little part he had, he stunk. And everything else he been in that I've seen is terrible, imo anyway. And to make it worse, the movies I thought were bad, his acting was bad. The guy is very over-rated in my book.
I know that's only my opinion, but come on. What has he done that would make anyone say, "Gee, I bet he'd make a great Megatron"? For me he wasn't even on the radar for Megs.

From ToplessRobot.com:• "Watching Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is marginally better than sh***ing your pants, but it takes a lot longer." Very well put.

Really??? I'm stuck with Douglas Jardine from the bodyline series as my image Weaving. So I like this decision... I can see him playing a cold heartless bastard

I only enjoyed the first Matrix movie, ::ducking:: I'm not the biggest LOTR fan, and I thought V for Vendetta was most overrated.
I approve of their choice. Weaving's voice is dark, with just enough of an airy gravel to run a shiver down your spine. I can't help but remember Agent Smith's speech in the first film, telling Neo how human beings are not mammals, but viruses. That act alone sparks confidence that Weaving is easily a top choice to voice Magatron. Next to Welker, that is.

I'm actually quite pleased with this choice. Never saw any of the Matrix films, but H.W. was great in LOTR.

Why not, they aren't doing much else I like in this movie, might as well cast the wrong voice actors to make it perfectly wrong. So far the Cullen voice is the only GOOD news we have had.

Sounds to me like a good choice. I think them choosing Weaving also shows us the kind of character they want this Megatron to be. Weaving isn't exactly a monster, I think his voice would fit well for a militant genius.
And we know he can do voice acting well enough to convince emotion. Just look at his performance as V.

I'm still of the firm opinion that there are five million ways that the movie can stink, and about seven ways that it can be great.
Having Mr. Smith, the cross-dressing Elf voice one of the most recognizable villains of our generation leaves four million, nine hundred and ninety nine thousand, nine hundred and ninety nine more ways.
Megatron has one voice, and it belongs to Frank Welker. Why is there any debate at all?

Hugo Weaving to Voice Megatron in Bay's Transformers

however, id believe that Weaving is a good choice, if not Welker, the obvious first. still, it should turn out alright

Hmmm....am bit disappointed that Welker didn't get the role in the end, but I'm sure Hugo will provider a spanking Megatron.

Interesting choice, I'm witholding comment until this gets confirmed.
