So we have the upcoming Sky Lynx toy in the Combiner Wars line that, while it adds the functionality for the character to become a gestalt's torso, sacrifices the ability to separate his two vehicles or to form his two separate animal modes.

Frankly, I am happy to be getting an awesome new Sky Lynx, and if I have to be, I can be happy with him as is. But I wonder how difficult it would be for a third party to release an upgrade kit for him?

I suppose it would necessitate some major parts replacement. The top of the crawler transport and the bottom of the shuttle would need to be replaced with complete versions, as likely they aren't solid where those parts come together in the non-separating toy.

The new top of the crawler transport would need some sort of flip out or pull out tail for the lynx mode. Also, depending on if Sky Reign's lynx-like head is properly positioned and articulated to be utilized for a separate lynx mode or not, that might potentially need replacing.

The new undercarriage of the shuttle would need a pair of legs that can be pulled down for the bird mode.

Finally, the new parts would need some pegs or ports or some such to lock the two halves back together for when the shuttle is on the crawler transport, or for when Sky Lynx is in his combined beast mode.

Ideally, these additions would not preclude still using Sky Lynx in his new role as the torso for Sky Reign, but if that proved impossible, I wouldn't see it as the greatest loss.

As for if this all is possible, I suppose it mostly comes down to how Sky Lynx is assembled and held together. If the parts in the shuttle and the parts in the crawler are separate parts of the mold, I don't see why it wouldn't be theoretically possible. Then the biggest problem would be hoping the parts necessary to disassemble are all held together by screws. Hopefully no pins, or worse, glue.

Anyone else curious if such an upgrade might be possible? And potentially interested in getting it if it becomes reality? Anything else you'd like to see such an upgrade do (or not do) for Sky Lynx?

Personally I don't want that feature, both modes looked weird in the G1 version, and the CW version looks so cohesive as a whole that I don't want 2 semi cool modes just for G1 purism.

Personally I think the torso mode rocks like F&ck, and CANNOT wait to get my hands on it, so, no, I do not want the torso mode sacrificed, nor the 'combined' beast mode compromised in any way. It homages the lynx head (quite epic-ly, I might add), I remember a time when that would have been enough to throw a full-scale party; boy times have changed.

I'd definitely buy an upgrade that G1ified Sky Lynx, even if it sacrificed the torso mode. The torso mode does look nice and it's a nice option, but it's not why I want Sky Lynx.

Realistically I don't know if it's possible. In theory it looks like it might be, but ...

You have a pin holding that tail in place on the blue part. I don't think you could leave that part out. Maybe it's possible to hide it and have a separate piece mimic what it does and attack to the upper part?

Alls i want would be a way longer poseable neck and a longer wing span. I feel to do the character justice he needs a longer serpentinesque poseable neck to really give the ability to execute something more dynamaic and less static.
And legs that can splay with ankle tilts. That's what i'm looking for.
Forget it.....just start from scratch and give me a ginormous hyper posable MP level Skylynx please. Somebody.
I don't need the body separation gimmick so much.

EDIT: and a longer tail aswell.

Sounds like a job for Perfect Effect or if they pass on it I'm sure Nonnef and his partners will look at it. To be honest I forgot we were getting a Sky Lynx after the coming wave was so meh for me. Though I may pick up on Optimus Maximus as I hear there are plans for a Thunderclash kit coming from Nonnef.

Given the current trend with the CW Voyagers I'm sure there will be a number of fixes needed for Sky Lynx and if there's a kit that does both I'll be interested.

I would love to get an upgrade that returns skylynx to his proper G1 glory. I could care less about the combiner gimmick which sole purpose is kiddie playability in order to promote the upcoming line of "Repaint Wars" deluxe autobots and give them a reason to exist. What they should have done is made skylynx the leader class figure and megatron the voyager instead. The scale would have been .ore appropriate.

I'm going to be uncharacteristically dismissive here: CW Sky Lynx functions to both integrate with the current line of combiner figures and also homages a beloved G1 character. Your hypothetical seems to want a more G1-styled figure and I say just let the figure be. It would be a more worthy task to start from scratch and make a proper updated figure - one that can separate into two pieces as needed and also one that is much larger than a current voyager. I'm thinking the bottom half/beast should at least be the size of Hexatron. Because if all that is done is to add here and tweak there, you've still got an undersized figure that just doesn't show the majesty that is Sky Lynx.

i would like an updated sky lynx bigger and with all the same features as the original sans the electronics. ideally, for me at least, to scale with tfc sized combiners so as to match up with predaking.

thus i think the best option is to take combiner wars sky lynx for what he is, a cool but slightly small sky lynx (whose name i guess is just sky since there is no lynx involved), and rather hope that a third party will give us a full figure as described above.

Why not just get G1 Sky Lynx? From what I understand, that figure is great all on its own and doesn't really need an update that does the same exact thing that it does.

G1 Skylynx is awesome. I have the re-issue and was glad to pay the price for it. Yet, it does lack in some modern articulation. I'd have loved to see Hasbro tackle him as a duo-con.

Given Skylynx's prominence in the comics, it's nice to have an update. I would not have necessarily made him a combiner team member, but I'm hoping they retool him into something awesome!

G1 Sky Lynx is awesome. I loved having him as a kid. But to answer megatronus's question, why not just get a G1 Sky Lynx? Simple. I don't currently have a G1 collection.

What I do have is a heavily G1 inspired "Classics" collection. And even unaltered, the new Sky Lynx will fit into it very nicely. If they did make an upgrade along the lines that I suggested in my initial post, however, I would just see that as a way to make an awesome looking toy even better. And for those who don't agree, and think that such an upgrade would take away from Generations Sky Lynx? Well, on the off chance that such a hypothetical upgrade does get made, then I can get it, you don't have to, and we both have the best Sky Lynx for our own collections.

I agree that any 3rd party wanting to make Sky Lynx more G1 would have an easier time if they started from scratch. For any group that really wanted to work on the Combiner Wars figure, I'd take a set of bespoke combiner limbs designed specifically for Sky Lynx, like a launch pad, SRB, or satellite. Something along the lines of MakeToys' Mobine sets. It might be a little Power Rangers for some, but I think it's better than twisting established G1 characters into combiners.

g1 is great but the motivation for updating this character is no different than for any other g1 character- poseability, aesthetics more relevant to the current fiction and age we live in (sleek and round designs vs. bulky and blocky). also to have him scale with other classics figures. g1 sky lynx is large but still too small. also imagine a sky lynx with ball joint/equivalent articulation in the legs, neck, and tail. all of a sudden you can see how much more is possible from an updated version of the character.

now the reality is we have two choices, combiner wars and g1 sky lynx. overall i would say that g1 sky lynx would look better in a classics collection. but that doesn't mean there isn't room for improvement over his design
