I get the feeling that getting appointed to be the programmer of HMW 2.0 is like becoming the drummer in Spinal Tap...
Anyhow, I too still play the game quite regularly.

I wish we could keep an HMW programmer. Just need to find someone who's really dedicated to the site and really knows their PHP. It really isn't that hard to program. Took the original programmer less than two months to get the original version running, and he learned how to program in PHP on top of it with the initial HMW project back in 2003.

You might be asking, "if it's so easy to program, why don't you just program it Ryan?" As much as I'd love to program HMW, I just don't have the time to work on it and work on the rest of the site.

I don't know what the future of HMW is. A big part of me just wants it to be done if we can't find someone to take over on the programming. Mkall has been a huge part of why this thing is still here. He believes in it. I'd believe in it to if someone would step forward and truly make it a priority.

To be completely honest Ryan, as much as HMW2 is a great idea and all, the fact is that the current game (while needing tweaking and the occasional mission update/contest) is doing a good job at keeping a lot of us entertained and at times when the forums are slow, is the main reason for some of us to be on the site at all.

Would we like to see HMW2 some time in the near future? Of Course. But if the programmers aren't here, as long as Mkall and maybe a few others have the access and functionality to work on the current game then the focus should be on what we have, and maybe hyping it a bit more to get new players from the other site traffic. Then rather than worrying about HMW2 for a while, you can focus of building GICobra and the rest of the network. Build it up more, and maybe we can home-grow a few more people with skills willing to work on and figure out the future of the game.

Personally I gave up on this game when everything was geared to "Oh HMW2 is coming, oh it will be here soon" so who would want to play a dead-end game if something (supposedly) better is constantly being discussed. Once it looked like we were "stuck" so to say with the current game, and I started up again without the threat of all our hard work going down the drain (again) I've been enjoying it immensely.

Has Mkall been given back his background access? Because people (including myself) *HAVE* worked hard to increase the popularity of this game. But considering I ran a tournament just after the latest hardware crash, and Mkall wasn't given the powers to do what was needed at the time (no auto-missions which seriously reduced the impact of the tournie) and *STILL* hasn't been given them back yet (at least as of a couple of weeks ago, which means the promised prizes have yet to be awarded) then we're fighting a losing battle here.

I don't know how long it takes to enable his access to the background workings/database, but I seriously doubt it takes 2 months... Is this anyway to thank the guy you've credited with keeping the game going, or to encourage those of us, like myself, who's main reason for coming back to the site is HMW?

I agree with what Editor said above.

I'm for an updated version of what we have now. Nothing spectacular, just new missions, weapons/tactics,(anything that is Italic)

, I don't need a brand new version. I think we lost too many players to talk of new game. V2 has been in the works for what? 5 years? I think we should chalk it up as a loss and just improve what we have. Perhaps down the road when our player base returns and the game is pumping should we go with a new version. But only time will tell until then.
