Is Classics Galvatron worth getting?

I've heard various comments about Classics Galvatron being a "bad" figure, but I would like to know the specifics, and whether or not you even agree with that assessment. I'm a big fan of the Henkei figures (not all of them) and I'm considering adding him to my collection.

edit: Yes, I realize Henkei and Classics aren't exactly the same thing. I'm considering the Classics version, if I can't find a Henkei at the right price.

I like him in both modes, but the transformation is tedious more than fun, especially around his cannon arm. If you can find him cheap, I'd say pick him up, but don't go crazy trying to get him.

I like him. Are there things I wish they did differently? Sure. Overall though, I think he looks good in both modes. He looks great on display in robot mode next to Cyclonus.

Part of the reason I am considering Galvatron is that I have Cyclonus on the way.

I recommend him. You can hear all about his flaws but he's still a good figure and a very good Galvatron to put up against Classics Hot Rod. He goes great with Cylonus and either Titanium Scourge or the Botcon Scourge & Sweeps. If you're a fan of the post-Movie period, you can't pass him up.

I'd go for the Universe version over the Henkei one. The chrome really doesn't add anything but a gaudy distraction (what with G1 Galvatron being all plastic) and the grape color only looks good when paired with Henkei Cyclonus. Get Galvatron to match your Cyclonus.

Final analysis: Pick up the Universe Galvatron. It's worth getting.

I don't think Galvatron is a bad figure but I have to admit that the attributes I like in Transformers are a bit odd to some. He looks good beside Cyclonus too.

First of all, the transformation design requires exact maneuvering of parts. Due to the ball joints in the figure, a lot of people, including myself when I first transformed it, found that parts would pop off. After figuring out the transformation, nothing pops off anymore. I happen to like involved and complex transformations so I had fun getting down the transformation sequence. If you aren't into transformations that much, this is the one big criticism you'll have.

Secondly, the design, specifically the proportions of the bot mode are sometimes mentioned as a negative. I personally do agree, he looks a bit large on the legs while his arms, torso, and head are fairly small in comparison. He just looks off.

Thirdly, the alt mode of an essentially Earth tank design is not what people think of when they envision Galvatron.

The first point is the major issue most have. The second and third are mentioned but not as much. I personally think that if you look at the figure's photos in the gallery and like the look of alt and bot modes, points 2 and 3 are resolved. You'll get what you see in the photos.

I personally think it's a good figure that could be better. I think that it should have been a Voyager class figure to suit the character fiction and to allow better toy design. The design feels like it was was a Voyager crammed into the frame of a Deluxe class figure.

I think he's great and especially enjoy his transformation. I like him better than any of the original Classics line deluxe figures. Further, I think the Hasbro one looks better than the Henkei one.

Don't you hate when you mean to hit edit to correct a typo, but instead reply to yourself with no reply resulting in a double post? Wait, that's just me? Damn!

I also think that the Universe version is more appealing than the Henkei. I just don't like the use of chrome in the Henkei version.

I like the chrome, it gives it a more G1 feel imo. :-? Yea, get Galvatron, your Classics / Henkei collection will not be complete w/o him. Though I leave him in his robot mode all the time.

It all depends on whether you like your figures to stand up or not. He's not very good at it, although strangely enough he's better at poses than standing up straight.

He's well articulated.
His face looks like an old man who's left his teeth out.
His knees are where the middle of his thighs should be.
His tank mode is good but he can't really point the barrel upwards.

I actually have Universe Cyclonus with Henkei Galvatron, and I think they look fine together. I got HK Galvy to match my purple Reissue Galvatron. The chrome is stupid, but less noticable in bot mode and that's how I display him most of the time anyway.

The U/HK Galvatron mold is flawed, but I think it's worth picking up, if only to display him in bot mode. The transformation can be pretty annoying, with parts popping off left and right. That said, he looks cool, although he's short compared to most of the deluxes, he still manages to look somewhat badass.

That's very true! I usually have Galvatron on a knee in firing position when he's in robot mode. His right knee is loose as can be so he doesn't stand well at all. The list of points is spot on.

I'm hoping to get a Henkei Cyclonus at some point. I want to display him with Universe Cyclonus. H C could be "Cyclonus" and U C could be "his Armada". I can tell them apart!

Mine stands just fine... I think he's probably more limited in the number of poses he can pull off, but I have no problem finding one that keeps him upright and stable, while not being hunched over, looking ridiculous, or like he's a total stiff.

I think I saw someone's collection that actually took that idea before, where they had 1 Henkei Cyclonus and a bunch of Universe Cyclonus in the back like a clone army of Star Wars.

He is not the best figure, but the Henkei version has good colors and is worth getting. I didn't like his transformation, but he looks good in robot mode, so I like him. I would not call him a bad figure.

I have Henkei Galvy and his joints are tighter than Universe. I like that and the colors better.

This Galvatron is great is you want to stand him with Cyclonus and Titanium / Botcon Scourge. He's just the right height for that. On his own .... well .... there *have* been better G1-ish Galvatrons.

I'll tell you this, I went through the same choice when I decided to get him or not. For some reason if I get TFs in my area its always last (I have alot of scalpers around me).

Get him. Yeah there's stuff that sucks about him, but you're gonna kick yourself in the head, like I'm doing for passing on Universe Inferno so many times and now I wish I hadn't and can't find him for a decent price anywhere, and regret it.

Just get him. You'll like him enough and the tank mode is pure win.

I tried doing that for a clone army for Star Wars, and decided that it's not worth the money and space.

I'll just print out a bunch of mini Cyclonus faces and put them on old GI Joe figures. Then I'll arrange them with U Cyclonus. It's Unicron of 2009 doing the best he can under the harsh times of the current recession.

Convotron's playground wrote:Unicron: Version 2 Snake-Eyes! You shall be Cyclonus' Armada. Put on this paper mask.

Cyclonus: Seriously? That's my Armada?

Unicron: Look, we need to make adjustments due to cutbacks. Just be happy you get an awesome contemporary remake, okay? You don't see Scourge crying like a baby all by his ugly lonesome self.

Scourge: Actually I recently got a pretty cool remake...Image

Unicron: Silence, Fugly One! Version 2 Snake-Eyes, put on the mask. Cyclonus, make nice with your Armada. Scourge, go back to your cave.

So the moral of this thread is: Most people say "yes" to Universe/Henkei Galvatron despite some flaws. It'll definitely be a nice addition to your collection as you have Cyclonus on the way, magnusalpha. If you plan to get or already have Classics/Henkei Rodimus, even better. If you also plan to get the Botcon Scourge and Sweeps, it fits in as well.

By the way, the Fire SL Grand Convoy and Black Rodimus Convoy are looking awesome in your sig! :APPLAUSE:

lol, your story did little to show the moral of the story, but it was entertaining nonetheless.

One problem with U/HK-Galvatran is when Fansproject's Protector set comes out... poor Galvy won't stand a chance.

I'd just get him if I were you. As a deluxe, he's not that expensive, and the problem he has with balance and articulation isn't that bad.

I passed on 2007 movie Arcee two years back, and have yet to forgive myself for it.
