I didn't think so, until I saw this:

It doesn't have Whirl's skids, but it's got that same copper color, it looks like it's a small one-man copter, and it's got a gun mounted under the nose. Maybe HA Whirl was inspired by this? Anyone know what it is?

No, they're skids. They look like skis, but skis are for skiing. The things some helicopters land on are skids.
