In terms of the first four Celestial Being Mobile Suits - I'd have to say go for the 1/100 scale. If you got 1/144, you won't have Gundam Nadleeh, but if 1/100 you'll basically get everything. I think with 1/100, bigger pieces will help a beginner who is starting to make model kits. However it's up to you, if you don't want to spend that much, get the 1/144's + Nadleeh, or if you want to go big, then try 1/100. They're both masterpieces.

Besides size what's the difference? Detail, articulation? I watched a video on the 1/100 Virtue and was disappointed that the barrel on the GN Bazooka had to be painted.

With size comes detailing and articulation. Comparing 1/100 Exia to 1/144 Exia.. the 1/100 blows it away. It comes with beam sabers for all of the mecha's swords. Ultimately, if you want the kits to have cartoon CGI, you're going to have to marker-detail them and paint them. With the 1/100, you don't even need to do anything and it still looks fine. The 1/144 exia almost looks like a tri-coloured McDonald's toy without panel lining and painting. Perhaps that's overexaggeration, but the only reason I go 1/144 is because there are enemy suits, basically I can actually have a nice display going with it, and can expand on it in the future.

The 1/100 suits do not too many Enemies suits to go along with it, so I feel that they are usually stand alone showcase pieces, and they do that very well. From what you're saying, it sounds like you want to have showcase pieces, instead of expanding your collection later on to have everything.

Thanks for the info. It looks like I'll be picking up a couple of 1/100 scale models. I'm basically only looking for Dynamas and Kyrios since they don't have Robot Damashii versions... That I know of. I'd like to get some of the villain mechs but I'll be damned if I know their names.

Well I ordered a 1/100 scale Dynamas and Kyrios Gundam kit. Since I've done that tomorrow Bandai will announce Robot Damashii versions of each. Yay me.

OMG! I just finished building the 1/100 scale Kyrios. I truly am in awe and fear of those that build the bigger sized kits. I did find it funny that the joint pieces were on a spruce from 1996. One thing I wasn't thrilled with was that there wasn't any tabs or pegs to hold the limbs in place when transformed. I also need to get better clippers and a file; any suggestions? On to Dynamas which is my favorite Gundam. Good thing nothing happens to him in the series.

You can get a set of plastic files or rasps, use sandpaper, or buy cheap disposable finger nail files like I do.

Nippers are an area of debate. Some people think it doesn't matter which kind you use and some people prefer a pair of precision nippers. I use Tamiya's Sharp Pointed Side Cutter and highly recommend them.

I happened to be in home Depot and bought a set of files designed for hobby work and a set of clippers and pliers. The clippers work really well as they have a slight springing action to them. They work so well I haven't had to use the files… yet. I do have a question about filing, how do you file away the burr without damaging the piece? Often I opted to use a hobby knife instead but I'm interested to hear other peoples techniques.

Right now I'm working on my Dynames kit. Glad I did Kyrios first as I'm having a much better go of it with Dynames. So I'm up to the part in 00 where they introduce the GN arms, is that the same as the 00 raiser? It's just for Exia right? Oh God, my wallet fainted.

The hand full of kits I haven't painted I use a hobby knife and rub the nub mark with a finger nail to ease the discoloration. You can also use a color matched gundam marker (doesn't have to be exact.)

Well, they did make PG 00 Raiser. Even more hardcore than 1/60.

Yeah I saw the 00 raiser but I'm not sure what size figure it'll fit. It's a bit pricey but if it fits the Exia I'll be down. Then again I got the Robot Damashii version of the riser and seven sword so I'm good there.

While Damaashi's got better detail and articulation they lack playability. The Kits have everything though...

I assume then the sword doesn't fold? I gotta say the kits got about the same level of articulation. I don't know what the standard is for articulation in the action figure market but I feel whatever these kits don't have I don't need.

I saw photos of the GN Sword III(a Tamashii Web exclusive item) for the Robot Damashii 00 Gundam and it was shown in the folded rifle mode.

From my comparison of the Robot Damashii 00 Gundam, Cherudim, and GN-X III A-Laws Type figures to their HG counterparts, I was pleased to find that the HG models have better sculpted detail and nearly equal articulation. I have to say that the level of design in HG level kits starting from about 2007 or so seem to be bridging the gap between model kit and action figure.

Now I'm not downplaying RD figures, I just personally think that for Gundam, I prefer the HG kits(to keep comparisons on nearly the same size level as RD Gundam figures are slightly smaller than 1/144 scale) over the RD action figures. I have the Eva Unit 01 and Unit 02 RD figures and they're excellent action figures, probably the best NGE action figures within their price range.
