My NES was never the trusty steed your folks' seemed to be. A lot of the time, my NES would flash different colours on the screen a lot of the time, or the power button would just flash on and off, while nothing came on the screen. I thought most Nintendos were like that, but I guess I was wrong. I never had a problem with all the other Nintendo consoles I own, though, which is all of them. Nintendo's great.

No problems with any of my Nintendo kit to date. And I'm looking forward to my Sony PS3! Solely to enjoy Blu-Ray!

From the sound of things your not a Do-it-yourselfer Your carts where dusty you just had to blow on them and the connectors.

I had the same problem, only i used a block of wood...probably not the best idea in retrospect. Still worked like a charm when i finally sold it off though.

As for blowing in the cartridge...funny how that is my first instinct now when a game stops working...

I remember doing that many a'time. Sorry, I just didn't bother to mention it before.

As an insight into the NES and blowing on cartridges....Most of the time it wasn't caused by dust. It was caused by the contacts inside the NES getting bent from repeatedly pushing in a cartridge. When you pulled the game out and blew on it all you were doing was adding a thin layer of condensation that caused the contacts to meet using the liquid as a way of transferring the electric signal. The other option is that you causes the metal to expand from the heat of your breath, causing the contacts to meet. Or you just happened to shove it in, in such a way that the contacts touched each other.

Any old NES that doesn't read games anymore can be fixed in five minutes with a small flat tip screwdriver and a flashlight.

well got my ps3 back tuesday, seems to be working fine...shame i have to start over on all my games though :sad:
