Holy cow... I am in awe at the "build up" Pitt...

Marvel Toys has two full lines of their new Legendary Comic Book Heroes ready to go and fans are ready for more...

The first series will include:

- Judge Dredd

- Rip Claw

- Super Patriot

- Madman

- Savage Dragon

- Witchblade

- Pitt (Build-up)

The second series will include:

- Star

- Striker

- Ann O'Brien

- Marv

- Judge Death

- Darkness

- Monkey Man (Build-up)

The line will also include "Twin Packs", the first to be Conan vs. Wraarl and the two main characters from the Body Bags comic.

Marvel Toys will cure fan fear of NOT being able to complete their amazing build-a-figures thanks to evenly packed cases which will hold one full set (which means one FULL "build-a-figure") as well as the variant regular figures from the series.

Series 1 is scheduled to hit retailers in July with the second series to follow later this year. If all goes well, Marvel Toys plans to release 3 to 4 new series per year as well as 1/6 scale Icon-style figures too.

I will most definitely pick up the first series just for the Pitt figure.

I could've sworn another company was making these...

In anycase, I'm not a huge fan of Marv (I think he's sculpted and painted weird) but everyone else looks fantastic!

I remember emailing the company that was making these begging for The Rocketeer. They're working on it

I've never even heard of these figures before.

Some of these will rock, others... I dunno.

I wish the Witchblade figure was in a different style outfit.

Agreed. Some of them are great ideas for figures the others are WTF and why does this character deserve a figure.
Of course there are so many fans that maybe some were screaming for them..

I've been thinking about this line and there's definately something that bothers me about them.

Both ToyBiz and Sota have during the course of discussions with various boards, said that there are some characters, both Marvel and SF that aren't nearly popular enough to market.

Now here we have whole series of figures, the most popular of which, Witchblade, is even only marginally popular.

So what's the deal? Are there dedicated legions of Savage Dragon fans out there I don't know about? My issue on this point is, I started collecting Marvel Legends in Series 9. Which meant I bought Deathlock, Bullseye, Dr. Strange and the rest with the intent of getting Galactus. I honestly felt guilty buying a bunch of figures of characters that I previously found to be retarded.

Those purchases got me to read up on the characters and find out that they were honestly pretty cool (except for Deathlock, Zombi-Cyborg-US Army soliders with a afro-american bend to the story just don't relate to me, who knew?).

So, should I buy these waves entirely and hope they grow on me? Can anyone make a case for why these are cool enough to own?

I always liked Pitt so that is my motivation to pick up the first wave.
I am sure like we Transformers fans that there are plenty fans of The Savage Dragon and some of these other characters.
Just because you and I may not be huge fans of some of these characters there are plenty that are.

Wonder if there are any Danger Girl figures in the future. Maybe a Major Maxim BAF?

Hence why I posed the question.

Besides, comparing the relative popularity of Transformers to any character in those first two waves is absurd. Optimus Prime and by extension, the Transformers are a cultural icons. Madman, Savage Dragon, and Rip Claw are not. Likewise, everyone and their mother knows who Captain America, the Hulk, and probably Wolverine are.

What I was doing, was indeed asking, if there are dedicated fandoms of these characters out there, if anyone here is a part of one or cares to be, and why I should give a damn about these characters in the first place. I even went so far as to say that when I bought my first group of Legends that they were mostly obsure characters to me, and that they did indeed grow into characters I liked.

So, yea, I'm wanting to know who likes these characters and why are they cool?

Savage Dragon had a cartoon in the 90's on the USA network so that means that he had some sort of popularity.
In the 90's a lot of these characters were popular by comic shop rats.

All I can say is if you do not like them then simply do not buy them and don't worry who likes them or thinks they are cool.
You did the research on the ML characters that you once thought retarded, do research on these new ones and you decide if you like them.

A line of toys based on relatively obscure characters is coming out. Yes, if you look hard enough at anything you are going to find fans of that thing. Yes, these characters had some relevance back in the 90's. Will they sell? With whatever fans out there are left and they ToyBiz Sculptors behind them, I'm sure they will sell. Why can't I ask questions about the subject matter without getting canned answers or being told to go elsewhere?

Asking questions about relatively obscure characters/things is a perfectly valid thing to do on a discussion forum. Want me to just sit around and find whatever tidbits on info are out there on these characters? Fine, I can do that (In fact, I did just that last night and unfortunately, there isn't the wealth of information out there that you might think). But that kills all point of coming here and discussing anything to begin with. Just referring me out to the web and telling me to research it myself, doesn't that just about damn near kill any discussion? Why talk about anything on the boards? We can all just Wiki it, Google it, or other. Wouldn't you agree that the message boards are a prime source of info generation from people who are or were interested? Don't get me wrong, I'm reading through Fwoosh and AF.com too, but what's wrong with posing the question here?

I made the thread because I know that there are some members that could appreciate the figures.

Since you want to know about some of the characters I can give reasons why some people may like them.

Pitt: He is an alien, extremely powerful (once went blow for blow with the Hulk) and is genetically linked to a boy named Timmy. Really viloent battles.

Savage Dragon: Very mysterious origin, dates a former hooker now turned costumed crime fighter, can grow back almost any limb if it is removed. Is a cop.

Super Patriot: was a soldier in World War II that was captured by the Germans and was used as a guinea pig for various scientific experiments and through them he gained superhuman powers. In the 90's Superpatriot was savagely attacked by his foes, this ended with the villain shark-man Mako biting off his limbs and much of his face then leaving him for dead. He was then transformed into a super powered cyborg.
