In the PSP retcons, Capcom changes and adds facts/history. Do you think this is because they were lazy in the S/NES days, or are they trying to answer questions and fix plot holes?
Anyway, who says that the original Megaman bots aren't alive in the X series? Zero could've been saved just so that the Wily legacy would live on. Rock, Roll, Forte, and Blues (I'm using Japanese names as civilian names for them) cold just be civilian bots, since they're outdated. Or, Dr. Light could've put them in stasis pods like X. Or maybe their cores ran out of power after a while. Why'd they have to die?
Remember what Zero was like when Sigma first fought him?
Like that. Zero was, technically, the first reploid. (A reploid being any free-thinking robot based on MegaMan X's design) Thus making him unstoppable, at least by MegaMan, Duo, ProtoMan, or Bass.
Not to mention, the only think Wily ever told his machines to do was to kill MegaMan. Zero, essentially being a God amongst Machines, would've wiped the floor with the Blue Bomber.
Then there's the other possibility: X is the original MegaMan, upgraded. That woud NOT make Zero ProtoMan, though, because ProtoMan wasn't "The Last of the Doctor's Creations."

Did they ever say Zero was a Reploid? He can't be anyway cause unless it was revealed in X7, X8, or Maverick Hunter that Zero is based on X, he's just a really powerful humanoid robot. But in a sense I guess he could have been modified into a Reploid, cause Sigma told his guys to take Zero back to Dr. Cain. And is there a technical explanation for what a "Maverick" is?
Also, I beat X5 with Zero a little while ago, and something interests me: Sigma says he met an "old man" who could be considered Zero's father(Wily obviously). Also, it's noted that this old man "told him what to do". Please tell me this is a translation error, cause there is no way Wily could still be alive. Sigma obviously finding an old Wily base and maybe finding notes or a video of the ultimate plan to take over/destroy/desolate the Earth is the only plausible explanation I can think of.
Ah yes, this is the kind of discussion I was hoping for, and that's what puts the X series just slightly ahead of the original series, cause it has an actual storyline and plot with a lot of fun speculation and questions. The original series lacked almost all of this, unfortunately.
Duke of Luns wrote:Maybe that's why Zero said the world would be better off with him dead at the end of X5, cause maybe he figured that if he, the major source of the virus was dead, then perhaps it would decrease a large number of Maverick Reploids.

Wily based Zero on the design of MegaMan X.
Therefore, Zero is a reploid.

I do wish the franchise would go back to some of the earlier stuff. I don't begrudge the newer stuff to people who want it, but I'd really like to see them, y'know, FINISH some of the stories. It's been ten years since Mega Man 8, and I strongly suspect the classic series will get no more sequels(regardless of if you count Mega Man and Bass). Maybe there's a trend of stopping at 8 for all the series... but that means we should get 6 more Legends games.
I'll actually be weird and say Command Mission is my favorite game, because I love the way it expanded the Mega Man X universe. Plus, Marino is awesome. You also have to love Mark Gatha as X(but then again, I'm also a G Gundam nerd, and loved him as Domon, especially as the series went on).
As far as favorite bosses... I used to go by the nick Slashman online, but that went by the wayside when questions I got kept getting weirder and weirder. Still, he's a cool character. Shademan and Fireman are great classic characters. And you can't beat Storm Eagle in the X series.
Cool to see a few Transfans are also MM fans.

Damn straight. He is X. Period. His work in Maverick Hunter X was superb.

Indeed. I love his dialog right before the last fight with Sigma. When he says," I WILL DEFEAT YOU SIGMA!!!!" It gets me pumped & ready to take names & kick ass....& throw in a couple of "Woohoo!!"s.TheMuffin wrote:KoH4711 wrote:You also have to love Mark Gatha as X.

The only real problem I ever had with it was the main area of the game that you have to naviate through to get to the individual "boss" areas.....but it was just because it was all interconnected & confusing. Personally I would have perferred it to be a bit more linear like the classic & X series are. Other than that, it was pretty good.Autobobby1 wrote:Network Transmission is great! Hell, IIRC in at least one of them(it's been a while since I've played the PS2 games) X isn't even a main character...more like a bonus unlockable one. Other than that you just play as Axl & Zero. I mean seriously, what's the point of calling the game Mega Man X when Mega Man X isn't the focus of the game? They should have called it Mega Man Axl.Duke of Luns wrote:Haven't gotten X7 or X8 yet, mostly cause I kinda got a little burned out on the X Collection, so I don't know if it's still more fun to play as Zero than X in them.

One thing to me that is kinda weird about the guy voicing X.....every time I hear his voice I think of his "This hand of mine is burning red" line from G Gundam.Shadowman wrote:Nemesis Cyberplex wrote:Hell, IIRC in at least one of them(it's been a while since I've played the PS2 games) X isn't even a main character...more like a bonus unlockable one. That would be X7.
X8 had a slight sweetness to it, partially because you could once again play as X from the start. Also, it had good voice acting, something which MegaMan never experienced before.
Autobobby1 wrote:X7 was completely bad, even the story. Basically, X went all emo again (NO! I refuse to fight! Why do we have to fight? I AM A REPLOID MURDERER! WAAAAAAHHH!!!) to the point of running away from home. Then Axl and Zero have half of a "totally amazing adventure!!!" and then X snaps out of his emo mood and helps fight once again. As if he wasn't whiny enough, X had to run away from home like a whiny little brat. Lame.
The gameplay sucked, too. Whoever suggested 3D should be fired.
On a lighter note, Star Force and ZX Advent come out this fall for the DS. Anybody looking forward to them?
