MOTU

Do you collect other toys besides Transformers? Maybe you've got a Masters of the Universe collection you'd like to show off, or maybe you like Thundercats, Voltron, G.I.Joe, Power Rangers, Star Wars, Wrestling, or any of the various comic book toy lines. Please keep the discussions here to non-Transformers toy lines.

Motto: "Quis custodiet ipsos custodes"
Haven't checked out this thread ina while.

--That Art Adams piece, Beautiful! I love his Godzilla artwork, so I'd expect nothing less.
They Live Reference---Hilarious!

As for Media toys... yeah its pretty apparent the 2021 CGI show and its adjacent toyline are done Too bad kids didn't pick up on it. But considering Kevin Conroy wouldn't be around to continue the Hordak cameo he had at the very end, I'm ok with it, the show had a pretty solid ending for what it's worth.

As for other MOTU toylines; The Targets near me haven't had any new Classics in stock. In fact most stores are out in my area, trying to clearance out the Sunman sets that are shelfwarming. They do seem to keep getting new Masterverse toys though.

All the new waves of Classics and Masterverse look really great. No matter what happens in the next few months (and I'm not even collecting this line), I'd love for it to somehow be able to replicate all the original toys/vehicles/playsets from the 1982-1987 line, plus the new stuff they've added, even if it shifts to online only distribution.

Speaking of which, with Hasbro's Warehouse sales becoming seemingly more frequent, I just wonder how long it will be before they shift to online only distribution of more collector driven lines (SW Black/ Vintage, GI Joe Classifieds, TF Generations, Marvel Legends etc...) and just keep the newer kid-targeted stuff at retail. Seems like an inevitability in the next 2-3 years

I thought this was a bit of interesting news....

https://www.imdb.com/news/ni63986549/

While I dont plan on watching S2 of Kevin Smith's MOTU series, I think this is a huge improvement in casting. Melissa Benoist is amazingly talented. It's unfortunate that Supergirl went from a great show in S1, to garbage when CW got their hands on it S2 and moving forward, but I dont blame Benoist at all, she was the one good part of that show.

Honestly didnt think that art was anything other than so so, mainly because of revelations designs in it. Much prefer Injustice Freddie E Williams II MOTU but I may be biased, with his TMNT art on my walls.

They could cast god in Revelations part whatever they want to call it and it still wouldnt impress me. Quite liked most of the series of supergirl myself, one things for sure their Maxwell Lord was 50 bazillion times better than Pedros and even made a lesbian heterosexual -thats Vin Diesel Pitch Black quality there. Plus how Lena Luthor actress never got cast as Yennefer in Witcher is beyond me. Brainiac and Dreamer were pretty good, even the last DC animated film kinda copied the shows Brainiac.

Target is doing another MotU sale on select figures. It's supposed to be 30% off, but most of these are %50 off.

Masterverse Two-Bad $23.09 (picked one up myself)
Masterverse Sun-man $9.99
Masterverse Beast-Man $16.49
Masterverse King Grayskull $16.49
Origins Sun-Man 3 pack $24.99

I think I'll go in for two bad and sunman from that :)

Also a shed load of toys announced for fall 23. Sadly it's the guy who goes in to sweats and salivate over new toys video but hey ho.

https://toynewsi.com/241-46726

So much to list from that, checklist included on the brightside for origins. I'm guessing the classics snake guys still left to be made into figures will be Mattel creations (octavia, grasp etc).

The snake men four pack is indeed three new snake men and a repainted snake armor heman (still no chrome).

Masterverse love for whiplash (who will look awesome next to dnd toon figures) and new adventures slush head!!! not in his tux as yet but who knows for the next release :)
NA skeletor looks good but really needs a toon eyes head :(

Origins

Eternian guard infiltrator (only 1 head seems a bit meh and measly not include more heads as per the orig eternian guard *but it is not a deluxe figure)

Squeeze

Spikor

Snake teila

Snake armor man at arms

Deluxe* Snakeface

Deluxe dragon blaster skeletor

Deluxe moss an walmart exclusive

Snake men four pack (3 snakes, 200x snake armor heman repaint)

Mini comic man at arms (new faces)

Screech and skeletor (articulated jaw)

Second Sun man 3 pack (completes sun man roster)

Skeleton warriors two pack glow in the dark

Point dread

Snake mountain

Masterverse

Classics merman

New eternia whiplash

New eternia ram man (looks sweeeeet)

New eternia buzz off

New eternia Clawful

? Webstor

Pop grizzlor (looks great)

NA skeletor

NA slush head (may be the best figure o. O)

Revelations horde skeletor (Big meh for me)

Revelations Adam (kinda like it because 200xish but I'll hold out for a tru 200x)

Revelations fakor (pink chest armor, blue guy)

Clamp champ (looks good and better than classics?)

Dan's not that bad, I'm subscribed to him. He's better than Mr. The-Line-Is-Dead-And-These-Will-Never-Be-Released=In-America. I'm sure he'll have a video up tomorrow explaining why he's still right.

There's very few figures in here that I don't want. I can probably do without the Snake Teela and Snake Palace Guard and I've been passing on the repaints so I probably wont get Man-E-Faces either. All of the Masterverse stuff looks good, definitely need those New Eternia figures.

That's a lot of figures for the fall, not sure yet how my wallet will handle that. Exclusives are the first priority of a lot of these are going to be sold at general online retail. Find out the full story tomorrow I guess.

I might pick up the Prince Adam since I have a handful of the Revelation figures, and he would complement new-Teela and God-Lyn.

Snake Mountain, snake minions, exclusives and slush head are my main wants. then pretty much all the snakes (even the guard and teila just to bulk out their numbers).

King Randor 200X would be a possible skip but I think he looks better than the OG and having two randors was probably a plot line to replace him with a fake king somewhere in the MOTU media.

Man-E-Faces is definitely looking like the one I could skip the most along with the masters of the sun as I've not been picking the rest of the retail ones up at over RRP prices here. *also Spikor, whilst I want the origins figure I'm okay with using the masterverse figure with them so priority buys will be first.

Masterverse stuff is looking good and definitely more wants for me since they started branching out.

There is still quite a lot more I'd like to see in Origins yet (fright zone, slime pit etc) and still some of the previous reveals that arent even dropping in this fall line up (Extendar, possible modulok etc).

Spectre Creative dosen't have to respond, but again, as you said, I'm sure he will. All he ever said was that he had 3 different sources tell him that new MOTU toys would no longer be sold at Retail after April 1st. Now I do find it odd that he has chosen not to reveal said "sources". But if any of these new waves of Origins or Masterverse show up in store at Target or Walmart after 4/1 then he will have been proven wrong. If they disappear completely from B&M (which has already happened at all my local Walmarts), and only show up via online retailers and Mattel's site, then what he stated initially will have been proven accurate.

I never really understood why several fans got so worked up? If they mistakenly thought he stated line was ending as a whole based on his videos, that's on them, and their misinterpretation of what was stated. I have no loyalty to the guy, especially since he devoted a whole video to the wrong answer to a question I sent him, but I'm just trying to be objective.

That's not all he's said. He's been saying for years that there would be no MotU from Mattel in 2023, then he moved the goal post to March based on "sources" saying they were being pulled from retail. He did cover himself by saying they might turn up as online exclusives, but he also said new MotU being shown behind closed doors at Nuremberg Toy Fair proved they wouldn't be released in America and has multiple times said that MotU being sold at DeepDiscount.com was proof that Mattel was trying to clear out stock through discount chains even though DD is a regular online retailer and the listings were all full priced (and he's been told this many times in the comments). He's really become obsessed with being right about this and grasping at every little sign he can find.

Pre-orders are up for the new stuff. Not seeing anything about store specific exclusives or Mattel Creations, but there are several figures that are missing (Man-E-Faces, comic Man-At-Arms, Sun-Man 3 pack, Masterverse Whiplash and both NA figures plus Snake Mountain). Only things I didn't order from what's available were Eternia Guard Infiltrator, Snake Teila, and Snake Armor Man-at-Arms. Even though these were all advertised as Fall releases a bunch of them are second quarter. Had to get the Talon Fighter off Entertainment Earth, it sold out on BBTS.

No preorders for me but I did order Rattlor and retail Cobra Khan at £20 each through amazon uk (mattel looks to have upped RRP to £19 on their website now) just so that i'm not falling too far behind with the recent/upcoming releases.

Yeah, I ordered King Hiss with the Talon Fighter, somehow I had forgotten to order one before.

I just had my latest POL from BBTS ship, 21 items split in two boxes, including 13 MOTU figures.

Took a couple days, but he didn't disapoint.

He basically said that he's still right because someone randomly found some figures at Walmart on clearance for $1 and the only reason a store would do that is if the line is dead. That's not remotely true since we see ongoing lines hit clearance pretty regularly. These same figures are still full priced at my local stores.

Someone in the comments claimed he was shown a rather lengthy list of figures Walmart will be carrying through Christmas, we'll see if it's actually true:

My brother in-law is a purchase director at Walmart corporate and ( no I'm NOT allowed to share his name or regional coverage code) I live in the Inland Northwest of the United States...he said theirs NO mandate to cut/clear out motu. Although each store manager can decide to a good degree what to put on clearance depending on the code of the product..i.e. furniture, gardening etc. He also showed me that they're expecting/have been assured in contract that motu is still producing new products at least up to and for Christmas 2023 not counting what was covered here there are 24 figures 4 "vehicles, 3 DVDs sold individually and 1 play setting..whatever that is. No names or pictures but description for shelf space lists 4 characters as double size. Not 2 figures but double size figures 2 from the
"Good" guys, 2 from the "evil" well it says evil on some of the 24 and some as rivals, heroes, and rogues . From the grayed out outline with measurements one of the vehicles might be-a boat ?

The "play setting" is probably Snake Mountain. The double sized figures have been leaked before as large 5 POA figures similar to the ones that the Netflix series got. There's at least one easy "vehicle" that's been mentioned for a while now, Night Stalker, and there's been rumor of the Bashasaurus based on card back art. I think we're due for a Battle Ram, too, since they only have to make half of it. I wonder if the one he thought was a large boat could be the Starship Eternia?

Even though I don't collect the line, I'd be totally thrilled to see something new at mass retail. While none of the Walmarts near me had the $1 clearance as far as I'm aware, they didn't need to because there is no MOTU product currently at all at most of the Walmarts around me. Target has Sunman sets at 50% off, and trying to clear out Masterverse King Grayskull and Trapjaw deluxe figures. I've seen Masterverse Two-Bad quite a bit, that I think is a fairly recent release, but that's about it.

When things go on clearance at this level,it's not a good sign though. Super Powers was a big one in my area. As Walmart exclusives they went on clearance big time despite more waves of reveals,I'm not sure where they will show up because they aren't at Walmarts in my area anymore.

Checking Target this morning they had one Pig-Man, a few of the recent Masterverse wave with Evil-Lyn, and a few Two-Bads, nothing else.

My local Walmarts only put Darkseid and Batman on clearance for $4, all the rest are still on the pegs along with the vehicles. I did scan the prices on the others just to be sure, but no dice.

Original Eternia has reappeared on the secondary market:

Postby AllNewSuperRobot » Sun Mar 26, 2023 10:43 am

Weapon: Particle Beam Cannon
Complete Masters of the Universe (MOTU)® The Original Series Playsets Eternia - $3750

One of the things I really commend Transformerland for is the detail each piece is given:

Condition:
Complete. Figure is c8.5.
Notable defects: Motor module rubber slightly dry and warped. Purple sky cage has stress marks. One tower floor has heavy yellowing and sticker wear.
Figure details:
Sticker wear: light to moderate (some sticker peeling)
Paint wear: light
Degree of dusting or washing needed: light to moderate
Other notes: All tracks are unbroken. Electronics work. Items ships disassembled. Instructions are not included. Please note that the power module unit is fragile and batteries need to be inserted carefully so that the module does not crack. The tracks are fragile and can easily break when detached from eachother.

I like that Eternia doesn't even need to be in immaculate condition to fetch such a sum. Due almost entirely to rarity.

What make this truly rare the fact that it's complete. The insane number of parts that can easily be lost make it so.

It does make me wonder how so many playsets survived (in tact) from the 80's and 90's.

Not many I bet.

Just finding a complete Castle Grayskull is a miracle and it barely have any loose parts compared to Eternia.
Heck, even just a single action figure with his only weapon is relatively hard to come by. There were not as many toy collectors in the 1980's as they are today for sure. Add the fact that these things are "just toys" meant to be played, then being DISPOSED OFF, and bam. Rarity.
Come see my latest creation, the COMPLETE combiner team, Scorponok and his Pretenders, forming SHELLSHOCK

My brother and I were randomly talking about the going prices of old playsets just the other day (he's not a collector) and I told him he should look up the Eternia Playset and how the individual pieces can go for hundreds. He found the Transformersland Eternia section, but everything was sold out. I suspect they've begun hoarding parts so they can maximize profits by selling "complete" sets rather than piecing them out.

A little off topic but..

In hoarding parts, Transformerland definitely leans towards the opposite of what I've seen on eBay. Mostly with combiners and/or rarer, larger figures. Why sell one Boxed Blue Bacchus, for example? When you can sell the box, weapons and limbs separately (at a premium).

When crowd funding eternia funded there was a sudden surge of parts from the old set on ebay so there should be at least a few more complete in the world.

Retail cobra khan arrived, only minor disappointment knowing it doesn't have a water squirting action would be that he doesn't have a snake staff. I know he's skeletors goon until king hiss comes back but it would have been a nice touch. If ya remove something at least add something.

Rattlor arrived. This guy rattles at the slightest shake :) sadly his tail falls flat (literally) partly because of the lack of the punch twist waist so it's not an 'action feature' for the figure. That on top of the neck being an attachable piece not much retro play here :/.

Nice to have them both but I think if I had the originals these may have been skippable, that or I might pick up the originals at some point.

*weirdly the mini comic that comes with them features the exclusive camo khan instead of the retail toy -though it uses the retail toys green blast effect

Back of packaging art for deluxe dragon blaster and snake face have been revealed. Sneak peaks of previously sneak peaked art of two bad, extendor and bashosaurus. Kind of glad two bad and extendor weren't in the fall release with me wanting 3 of each of them.
