My experience with the DCEL was that it was utter crap as a simple shooting weapon, especially since the recharge was horrendously long (though for a weapon with a max damage quotient of "incredible", that really shouldn't be unexpected). I got out about one shot per mission - total.

However, for a strafer...

It actually has a "middle of the road" recharge time, not exactly fast, but far from the slowest.
The opinions expressed in this post are well-reasoned and insightful.
