I personally like the face plate, as, for one, it's iconical, and, second, that it kind of identifies him as a hero like batman-- bold, noble, but visually represents his secloistering himself from his troops and the world emotionally by it as he stoically fights a great and powerful villain.

*sight* Bay has twisted our beloved Optimus again. Well I thought flames were the problem for some time, but after a while I got used to it. And when I saw those fish lips, damn. I'm not saying that lips won't look good on him but IMAGINE BAY that someone messes with your head making in CG style and they put you a golden teeth or make you a tatoo on your face, I would surely like to think that you wouldn't like THAT! I'm so upset I'm writing such heroic...err.. utter nonsense.

Anyway, it's nice that Bay want him to have his face and fishy mouths so he can express his emotions easily, but nevertheless PLATE ON, PLATE ON, PLATE ON!

Your points are taken, and they are valid. However you should bear in mind characters like Darth Vader could not even emote with his eyes, yet is an extremely expressive character in film. Prime will have his eyes, his voice, and his body to convey expression. And you know, things left to the imagination can be far more effective than explicit visualization.

The fact is, those who have seen the mouth don't like it, the fans, the plants, and the general public. I've not heard *anyone* say they like it. This movie is in final stages of production, the window for change is almost closed. We all want this movie to be a super-hit, for obvious reasons. We've got 2 more movies after this to explore a mouth for Prime.

Let's get the faceplate on Prime for this movie. I don't want to come out of the cinema thinking Blackout was the coolest Transformer in the film.

Has the fandom gotten that desperate to try to have some sort of impact on this movie that they have to nitpick everything that comes out of it. From Meg's design to Starscream, down to flames and whether or not rachet is puke green just bcause a lot of people are used to a traditional ambulance color. Basically it comes down to this "This ain't your daddy's transformers." The time has come to shake up the status quo and that is exactly what they are doing. I knwo you're being sarcastic, but Batman comics began in the '30s, and they were a lot like Batman Begins, where the Dark Knight allowed people to die. The only difference was that he commonly killed them himself, even using a gun a few times.

I'm well aware of that, and I wasn't talking about Batman Begins (which is the closest to the source material post Dark Knight Returns and second most successful film in the franchise) I was talking about the horrible Joel Schumacher films which deviated even further from Tim Burton's and temporarily killed the franchise because of it.

True Batman and Robin was utter garbage, however look at the time it was made. Comic book movies werent nessesarily taken seriously at the time. It wasnt until blade came out that people took notice of now a comic book property could be handled, then you have your spiderman and x men movies that further established things. Everyone likes to use batman and robin as an argument for all that is wrong with the movie industry when it comes to comic books, but for every batman and robin and daredevil movie, there is a spiderman or batman begin or even a punisher movie that shows how its done right.

Of coure they weren't taken seriously at the time, in spite of the previous 2 films. But that's counter to your argument, isn't it? So many people have defended all the changes by stating "Oh well, so they're changing things, it isn't 19xx anymore, deal with it" or "well it's based on a cheesy cartoon/comic from year xxxx". It's the same argument.

It's a matter of what, gets changed and why. Even after comic films began to be taken seriously we still got films like Catwoman, Hulk, and Constantine (the latter which weren't as horrible as Catwoman but were still pretty mediocre and upset a lot of fans). Stating that people must dislike something due to the fact that it's a change without considering the possibility that so many people dislike it because *gasp* it's actually less appealing than the original is a poor argument that's been proven wrong time and time again. Even if it were the truth, if so many people are simply 'upset by the changes' that it negatively affects sales as oppsed to improving them, then it's still a bad idea.

Every time someone who's been privy to the screenings posts they mention that, positive review or not, the lips on Prime are a distraction and don't look right. They're not complaining because it's a change, they're complaining because it's a change they feel is unnecessary and they don't like it.

Yes, comic fans complain a lot. Fans of just about everything that's ever been adapted to the screen complain a lot. Have you considered the possibility that it's because Hollywood has a habit of turning things into **** and that up until the last few years (coincidentally after Hollywood started taking note of fansites) the ratio of unwatchable to watchable film adaptations was stacked fairly heavily on the unwatchable side? There were plenty of changes to 300 but prior to release you didn't get a ton of Frank Miller fanboys complaining about how bad it was going to suck. Same goes for Batman Begins. Did either of those films flop? If 'fanboys' were simply upset by change then the entire bloody 'Ultimate' line of Marvel comics would have been cancelled years ago. And we'renot even talking about a comic movie here... in every interview the filmmakers have chosen to ignore that the comic ever existed and assert how much mature it's going to be compared to the cartoons.

If you're so offended by people voicing their opinion about things they don't like and you'd prefer to return to the glory days of Super Mario Bros., Swamp Thing, and just about every other lousy adaptation dicked to death by the filmmakers then that's your thing, but it doesn't negate the right of others to have an opinion and to share it with others.

This has nothing to do with opinions and frankly it's becoming a tired cop out because any time someone doesnt like something they tend to generalize it into "everyone's opinion" or something similar to that. Take this thread for example. Someone said that the only ones complaining were the geewunners. That is a generalization that is not correct but it is a little accurate. The people that have been the most vocal are the "purists". I dont really care if people want lips on him or if they don't. Whats next to complain about?

Every response I've seen has been negative, and among those who haven't actually seen it yet the responses tend to be either negative or 'don't care'.

Aside from the screening review that everyone thinks is questionable in nature what other screenings have you heard about that they said they dont like it?

Ahh geez, nobody complained about Prime having lips in Beast Wars, Beast Machines, Energon, and Cybertron. But when something that was made for a Europe trailer (Bay said himself) its the movie designs war all over again

"Bay is ruining an iconic character, blah blah blah" even though he gave Prime a faceplate, made him look like the original, even gave him the classic red/blue scheme through the flames, not to mention HE'S STILL A TRUCK

No one ever mentioned primes lips in those preview screenings, it wasnt until a week ago when that europe trailer posted that all of a sudden people had a shitfit about it. This thread is barely a day old and its already boring and has become kinda pointless because all it is is the people for the faceplate vs. the the people against the faceplate with the people that dont really care trying to pick a side. Like I said earlier whats the next thing to complain about?
