R.I.P. Toonami 1997-2008
- Motto: "I seem to have come down with a case of Scott Mcneil..."

Well it finally has happened after 11 years Toonami on Cartoon Network is gone. Even though I have not watched Toonami since they finished DBZ, I'm still sad to see it go. I remember sitting down to watch the first broadcast of Toonami way back in march of '97. Without Toonami I would have never been hooked like I was on DBZ. Hell with out Toonami probably no one would have. Toonami played a major hand in popularizing anime here in the states. As far as the hosts go I preferred Moltar to Tom, because let's face it Moltar is awesome. So now that Toonami has been laid to rest let's sit back an reminisce about that cool block of action cartoons that we looked froward to after school every day. Here's to you Toonami rest in peace, you will be missed. now if you will excuse i'm gonna smoke a J and watch some DBZ for old time's sake.

coming soon "The Electric Information Show" a new podcast from the guy who brought you the Twincast.

Re: R.I.P. Toonami 1997-2008
I liked Toonami before Tom became a midget-indian bot thing with southern-accented assistant robots...
I mean, out of nowhere he goes from super-cool robor dude to that.
On another note, the content started to become less and less appealing, like Naruto, so I altogether stopped watching.
I dunno if I'm sad it's gone or happy they put it out before it got worse.
I like the old ones much more.
Gundam, Transformers, Dragon ball..those were good times.

Re: R.I.P. Toonami 1997-2008
Toonami died as soon as Cartoon Network never bothered to make a new story as for why Tom became his current incarnation.
No matter what you say about Tom, like him or hate him, those little stories about him changing forms rocked, and rocked hard.
But then, nothing does compare to Moltar cruising around in his little UFO that looked like it was from the 50's.

It's a loss, but with how the block was treated I can't I'm surprised. The loss of DBZ really hurt the block. They might've had a chance if they aired Gaogaigar. They could've bought back the rights to some of the shows they aired previously like G Gundam or something too.

I'm in agreement. Toonami hasn't been good since they changed Tom to the horrid thing he is now and the majority of the shows they have now are garbage.

Can't say that I'm either surprised or disappointed. Yes, turning Tom into that cutesy-thing and getting rid of his female assistant was a bad idea, but to be honest, the block has been going downhill before hand. In fact, it could be argued that CN itself has been going downhill for a while now anyway.
In any case, Toomani was a good program - when it started. As for today, it's just another example of bad handling by the CN execs

god, that block go me into transformers. And it also had Megas XLR, which was one of the best shows ever. But TRL is gone, so there is some justice in it.

So what will they be slapping on in it place now that toonami is gone. I was there for the start of toonami and what killed it for me was the stupid ninja in orange track suit naruto thank you for that one cartoon network. Also has anyone notice that adult swim on saturday nights is becoming pretty anima thin as well.

I grew up with Toonami, so many good shows came and went. They’d been dead for awhile in my heart though.
Actually, they died about the time the started showing nothing but freaking Naruto. I wonder why? Really, their line-up got to where it was pathetic, and they really quit getting anything new.
I can only bet that CN as a whole will die in a year or two. They’ve gone down the drain in my opinion.

I was in total shock when tom said it was the final airing. Proving that CN's bigwigs are all a bunch of idiots and instead of making toonami better they decide to give it the big ugly axe. Now adult swim will be handling all the good shows. Not that toonami has had a lot of good shows lately. seriously, Naruto's okay but that's really all toonami's been. They could've aired samurai jack and ben 10 any other day.

You mean all two of them? Venture Brothers and Robot Chicken. Family Guy doesn't count since they're just renting it, neither does American Dad, but in all honesty nobody really watches American Dad anyway.

Re: R.I.P. Toonami 1997-2008
I have'nt kept up with Toonami since 2001. Everything went down hill after September 11th. Parental groups were forcing them to screen shows for "violent content". Pretty much killed my whole reson for watching. I got back into Toonami when Megas XLR was around, but stopped once it was done.
Gundam Wing
G Gundam
Outlaw Star
Tenchi
Those were some of the best shows they had to offer and after they ran their course, Toonami started to die a slow painful death.
Sorry if I offend anyone, but DBZ got old after Cell. The story just started to repeat after a while. New enemy comes, heroes must figure out how to make their hair get bigger, promptly kill said enemy under ridiculous circumstances and repeat.

And Metalocalypse. Frisky Dingo could go either way, I like it though.

I remember coming home from high school, and doing homework while watching Gundam Wing and Outlaw Star. Good times.
But to be honest I haven't seen the programming block since they stopped airing G Gundam. I did like how they had Peter Cullen doing the bumpers for the current shows though.
