Duke of Luns wrote:Not sure if it was mentioned, but Random Battles in RPG's are VERY annoying. Every five steps, *whoosh*, it's a fight. And even if you can see the monster your gonna fight, it has to load up for the fight, which can be annoying. That is why I like Zelda and now I'm really, really beginning to appreciate FF XII. I took a couple breaks between playing the past month cause I wasn't in an RPG mood, but now I'm back, and really appreciating the game.

Chrono Trigger is good because of this. They allow you to see the enemy, except in rare occasions, though they only show one guy, and a few more may appear. But you can walk or run around it, and you'd never have to fight.
You'd be screwed by the time the boos comes, but you'd win anyway.
God, Magus was hard.
Duke of Luns wrote:Yes that's true, but like I said, it still has to load up the battle system, which switches to a totally different screen. I like Zelda's, and FF XII because they DON'T have a separate battle screen. The monsters are on the screen, you target them, you draw your weapons, you fight, you move on, no separate battle screen present. It makes leveling up so much less tedious in my opinion.

Completing them.
Good one.
I remember when I finally beat Zelda TP after a whole month.
At first I was glad but then I felt "****, what the heck am I supposed to do now".
Also, I know it's essential to RPGS and whatnot, but I kinda hate leveling up.
I don't mind adding new weapons and abilities, but leveling sucks due to the fact that it takes forever to get to a competant level. i mean I want to beat this boss NOW, not 3 or 4 hours from now.
plus if you get really far in a game without doing it, your screwed.

They don't do that in Chrono Trigger, either. Battles take place right where you stand.

EDIT: I would also like to add the stratagy guide for FF9. "Want to know how to get this rare item!?!? Go to PlayOnline.com now!" I didn't pay $25 for a book to tell me I should have downloaded the f'n walkthrough instead. I can come to that conclusion on my own. Also, the game play in FF12 gets an honorable mention. Ooooo I had better level up or I won't be able to wear pants. Pffft, screw that.

You have a great story, great AI, gameplay, and that it.
