Wrestling is no more fake than any other television program.

I have to assume that all mention of Chris Benoit having ever existed will disappear from WWE programming once this is over.

This is the worst thing to ever happen in wrestling. Bar none.

Isn't it lovely that the thing that WWE is most concerned with right now is to wash their hands clean ?

They are still memorializing him for who he was. However would you leave up tributes to a murderer?

The answer is the WWE has to do this or all they will hear in the media is they promote murder.

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon will apologize for the three-hour USA Network tribute to pro wrestler Chris Benoit that aired Monday night, sources said.

The WWE and USA Network have received complaints about the tribute, which was hastily produced after Mr. Benoit, his wife and their son were found dead in their Georgia home Monday afternoon.

Authorities said Tuesday that Mr. Benoit strangled his wife and suffocated his son, then took his own life. But WWE and network officials were unaware of the circumstances of Mr. Benoit’s death when the tribute was assembled, sources said.

The WWE canceled its regularly scheduled “Monday Night RAW” event on USA Network Monday night and aired the tribute in its place.

Mr. McMahon will address wrestling fans tonight on Sci Fi Channel’s live Extreme Championship Wrestling event. He also plans to address speculation that Mr. Benoit’s actions were the result of steroid use.

The WWE plans to resume its regular wrestling telecasts, which air on USA Network, Sci Fi Channel and the CW.

Tna wrestling also pulled its condolences from its website.
Its sad that Chris Benoit is now pretty much a pariah that no one can be accosiated with.

A definate shame indeed. Be that as it may, as a Wrestler he is still my favorite. As a man however, well I'll leave judgement up till the end of the investigation.

I'm kind of surprised that I actually saw this thread. Not that I mind, I'm equally a fan of both Transformers and wrestling. Just surprised that the two managed to cross over is all.

I found out about 10 minutes into Raw about this. Turned it on to see they were coming out of one of the tributes. They went to comercial afterwards, but it didn't take long to but things together. The whole thing is just sad.

My vote for the HOF goes to my favorite Transformer, Kup, to the Headmasters (who still need new figures that aren't just the characters without their master components) and to seibertron.com for for being the ultimate TF resource.

I am viewing this the same. Last night was our chance to say goodbye to the Chris Benoit we loved. Now we are left with the man, not the wrestler.

Certainly a strange story...

I don't know why, but a part of me kind of doesn't really judge him too harshly. Of course murder is wrong, especially of a small kid. Maybe I'm still kind of in disbelief that he would do it. It just doesn't seem to fit right with the guy, from what I've heard/seen in interviews and stuff even outside wrestling.

At the end of the day, we can never really know what went through his mind or why he did what he did. People have that spot in their brain that keeps their good judgement and sometimes it doesn't work. That's what happened with the guy who killed people from a clock tower. Who knows why he did what he did and the thinking without any suicide note. Not that it would make it right, but maybe we could somehow understand it and it would be something deeper than basic rage or whatever theory people come up with.

It's weird when other wrestlers have died over the years, I've just accepted it and moved on pretty quickly. Even some of my favourites like Owen Hart, Curt Hennig (Mr Perfect) and Rick Rude, but this one has kind of been sticking with me since last night.

I enjoyed a lot of Benoit matches in the ring, but he was never a favourite wrestler of mine, really. However, I guess because of these unusual circumstances this one hasn't dropped from my head all day. I just wonder what went through his mind and I kind of worry about how fragile people's mental states are.

Could anyone do stuff like this one day? We dismiss it quickly, but you always read about these (less famous) people doing weird things like putting babies in the garbage or one day just kill their kids. It's crazy and the people are obviously sick and it just lets in that little bit of doubt in the back of your mind about people, because these out of character things do seem to happen.

Vince had a special taped message before ECW started tonight about last night's RAW, helping people move heal, and there will be no mention of Beniot during ECW.

There is a timeline on wwe.com recalling the weekends contact with Benoit, and it also lists what the text messages that he sent were.

I completely agree. I'm not willing to judge him harshly myself. I'm not in any denial about what's apparently happened, and it's not right that he did this. I just feel its not right to judge either. I can't help but wonder how the fact that he apparently did this would affect the legacy he leaves behind.

I feel that while McMahon did the right thing calling off Raw last night and doing the tribute show instead, he also did the right thing making this statement. The best thing we can do is heal and move on.

This is getting bizarre by the moment. The latest news is Daniel Beniot had Fragile X Syndrome. Also police fond needle marks on him and believe he was given HGH.

As more details come out the story is getting weirder and weirder.

I agree with most people though that Benoit was still one of my favourite wrestlers and I will still love his wrestling. But I have lost all respect for the man behind the wrestling.

As far as the steriods angle goes. Yes the press is pushing this and yes steriods are still a problem in wrestling. If steriods are responsible then it doesn't matter whether they were prescribed or not. Also the WWE's statement that Benoit was found negative in an April test is no help at all. By that logic if I was convicted of speeding today I could get away with it by arguing I wasn't speeding 2 months ago!

The only good thing to come out of this is maybe it will help some wrestlers look at their lives and re-evaluate some of the things they do for the business. Not just any prescription pain killers or steriods but the liifestyle they choose by spending so much time away from families.

A final tip of the hat to Vince though for his comments before ECW they set the tone perfectly.

Offcourse, they wont give the names of Co-workers.

Postby Mighty Scorponok » Wed Jun 27, 2007 1:48 pm

VP, do you know who the Co-Workers were?.Its kinda understandable that for the good of the case they did disclaimed the names of the co=workers that were texted by Benoit.

I'd guess Dean Malenko and Chavo Guerrero.

Dean and Chavo were two of Benoit's best friends.

I have heard one was Chavo. I think the other was in management.
