LV-117 - Future Imperfect

The noose around Fortress Maximus' neck tightens. Will the Decepticon 2nd fleet led by mighty Scorponok finally subjugate their old nemesis? And if they do, what will be the fate of the Autobot resistance?

Nosecone wasn't overly happy with the acid rain. He then noticed everyone talking to Fortress Maximus with some taking the blame and Fort Max taking most of it with the current arrangement. Wheelie than suggested something about heading to the mountain range and picking up on some sort of signal. Being a Technobot has its advantages even with the claw on his back. In this case, the sensory package he had did pick up the signal but it was too weak to get a good read on it.

"Our little friend speaks true of the signal. If anything, the mountains would provide some shelter if we can find some tall enough ledges to hide under. I wonder if this terraforming is causing the weather we have now. I know some would say this is one of the best ways to help our race but at what cost. If we are lucky, there isn't too much life on this planet outside of the plant life and maybe some animal life."

The chaos around Nosecone did bother him. The thought of working as the Con scouting party and metal shields didn't sit with him but nothing can be done about it now. Even with the claws in their backs, Nosecone knew the Autobots could come up with some plan of action once they get out of the rain. If anything, the rain may help them by damaging the claws as they travel.

>>>”Bomb Burst and I assumed when Hardshell said ’kin’, he meant only the four of you that had been on the bridge.”<<< He said over the comms, not directed to anyone but directed to everyone at the same time. >>>”Obviously we should not have assumed, Bomb Burst will adapt his plans, give him a moment.”<<<

>>”We are an army. We are the Swarm.”<< Hardshell hissed over the comms as he led his own diaclones to shelter among the leaves. Unlike some other Insecticons, his clones kept their temper despite of the acid rain having an effect on them as well. Damage alerts be damned, he was not going to lose his control over inconvenient pain receptors. Neither was Barrage, that was for certain. The gunner and his clones moved with a silent purpose. The others? He couldn’t say. There was certain chaos visible among the Swarm but in these conditions it was difficult to pinpoint the weak link as much as he’d have liked to blame Chop Shop for his general lack of control.

>>”Control yourselves.”<< He added across frequency shared by the Insecticons. >>”You will alert Jhiaxus or the local fauna at the very least if you continue with your pathetic shrieking.”<<

>>”For now will we wait and observe.”<<

This was a garbage scenario, but in Lightspeed's mind not a whole lot had changed. They'd been in the middle of a garbage scenario for a while now.

He'd understood Skyhammer's and Fortress Maximus' need to apologize. Anyone in command when things went to the Pit always took the heaviest blame for it, whether it was deserved or not. For his part, Lightspeed wasn't going to hold it too heavily over either of them. Neither of them were Decepticon sympathizers. Both of them had always wanted what was best for their fellow 'Bots. It just....didn't work out as planned.

"Yeah. I agree. Little guy heading for the mountains is our best shot. It's surely what the 'Cons want anyway. Why not play their game for a while? Better here than in a cell. As for you guys? Apologies accepted. At least from me. We've served in this sector of the universe together for a long time. If this is how we go down? Well, then it's been an honor," Lightspeed said, checking his weapon and charging after the smaller, younger mech known as "Wheelie", the large, metallic mountain looming larger over him with every step.

“Hey, you did what you could,”

Pyro couldn’t understand. That much was clear to Skyhammer. He meant well of course but it did little to change anything. Particularly Skyhammer’s guilt.

"I'm sorry, too. To you all. I can think of a dozen chances where I could have made one decision instead of another. But I didn't. When it finally came to it....I....I just just wasn't strong enough to hold Scorponok back."

Now Fortress Maximus understood. They both had failed those under their command. Command had been their responsibility. They should have both known better. They both should have saved more lives. But it was not Fortress Maximus’ place to apologize. By Primus, Maximus wouldn’t even be in this predicament were it not for Skyhammer’s own failure.

“But if you wanna help save more Autobots, we need to get out of this rain.”

Pyro though, was unwilling to waste more time on self-pitying. Instead the ranger tried to do what he could to motivate Skyhammer to move on.

”Yes… Yes, of course. You are right,” Skyhammer sighed and pulled himself back to his feet. Everything appeared bleak to him but in the end, the only way open to them was forward.

“Okay, so... what the hell happened? One minute we’re prisoners aboard Scorponok’s ship, the next we’re stuck in a place that’s trying to melt us. Any ideas?”

That was the question. For his part, Skyhammer had already guessed the reason though. Confirmation for his assumption didn’t let them wait for it for long either.

"It was me," Maximus answered. "It's just one more reason why I, too, had to apologize. Cyclonus offered me the chance for us to go down fighting, not to be traded as prisoners of war but to be bait for Jhiaxus. I took it. It....it may be my last miscalculation, but I took it...because I think we have a better chance to go out on our terms out here than we do rotting away in one of Scorponok's cells."

It made sense in its own way. There was no telling what Scorponok would have done with them. Skyhammer had heard rumors of both terrifying cruelty and surprising amiability this particular sect of Decepticons handled their prisoners with. Skyhammer himself would have taken the same route had the option been offered to him.

"Wait, wait, wait....you're saying our best option is to fight for Scorponok now? For the Decepticons? I don't....what? No. Just, no."

”And what is the option Pointblank?” Skyhammer asked wearily, ”Fortress Maximus did the right thing by us. I am tired of rotting away in a cell in state in disrepair. Prodded, beaten and insulted by Decepticons come to see us - the vanquished. I rather take my chances here for better or worse.”

"There, can you feel it through the air? A snare in the atmosphere made with care. Now we won't be stuck in the middle of nowhere! Follow me if you want to live. The mountain has shelter and hope to give!"

Wheelie had found something. Shelter if nothing else. The question was whether or not seeking shelter was something the Decepticons were going to let them do. Scorponok and Cyclonus wanted Jhiaxus and going to hide from the weather wasn’t exactly counted as searching for the ancient madmech.

Ah, Nosecone. Always ready to theorize on a mysterious phenomena. Skyhammer much preferred this Technobot to their brash leader – Scattershot. As for himself, Skyhammer was starting to find some of his mental functionality back. It was surprisingly easy in the end to focus on survival, barricading away the guilt at least for now.

"Yeah. I agree. Little guy heading for the mountains is our best shot. It's surely what the 'Cons want anyway. Why not play their game for a while? Better here than in a cell. As for you guys? Apologies accepted. At least from me. We've served in this sector of the universe together for a long time. If this is how we go down? Well, then it's been an honor."

”Thank you Lightspeed.” Skyhammer whispered. He couldn’t find any other words for the occasion. The guilt was still there, buried under the surface for now but for the sake of his fellow Autobots he would endure. Turning to face Fortress Maximus with his garish, mutilated visage, Skyhammer decided to share what little he could remember of the planet they clearly were in.

”The reports of this planet from way back suggest acid rain being a naturally occurring weather condition here. The Primal Vanguard never reported encountering any sentient life either. But our reports are over thousand vorns old and biological life can evolve surprisingly fast,” Skyhammer spoke up, surprising even himself, ”Plenty of dangerous wildlife though. Nothing someone as big as you needs to worry about. The rest of us need to be alert though.”

>>"Army..."<< Bomb Burst muttered sounding irritated. >>That army can't go storming into Jhiaxus' lair.<<

---

Bludgeon found himself once again in his old role of having to explain Bomb Burst’s statements. The Vampire's social ineptness was showing through again… he wondered how the mech managed to stay alive in the Decepticon ranks while Bludgeon was incarcerated, because of Bomb Burst's inability to deal with others in a way not to make them fuming mad. Pure luck, he supposed.

Bomb Burst had been sending him scenarios... And worst case scenarios... Of having the mass of Insecticons converging onto Jhiaxus' lab.

In fact the Vampire had been sending him a maddening amount of possible situations and plans.

>>"What Bomb Burst meant to say is having the swarm... Swarm, for lack of a better term.. onto Jhiaxus' compound may not be wise."<< Bludgeon corrected. >>"Especially those few particularly noisy ones."<<

>>'Vampire, stop it.’<< he finally ordered privately as he had enough of the information overload of scouting reports, revised plans, and whatnot that Bomb Burst was sending him. He needed a moment to sort through the haphazard info. >>'Pick the best one.'<<

>>"Bomb Burst, explain."<< He said out loud over the comms.

--

>>>”It might be best to have the majority of the Insecticons scout, except to have Nightbird take point. They could watch our flanks and rear.”<< Bomb Burst sent over the open comms to the rest of the assembled Vanguard. >>”If they are spotted, they may be fast enough and able to work in unison enough to distract defenses far enough away that we will not be noticed. When we enter Jhiaxus' compound, the clones can take the rear, a few kliks behind us. I'm more concerned with what may approach us from behind than in front of us.<<<

----

Nightbird moved near silently through the terrain, the organic elements gave way to more and more metallic ones as she moved closer the Cyberformed area. She found it amusing to hear Bludgeon correct Bomb Burst. In the Metallikato Master’s absence, it had been Nightbird’s lot in life to 'pretty up’ Bomb Burst's abrasive way of dealing with others.

She broke through the treeline, finding herself on a ridge cresting a completely cyberformed area.

She had to admit it made her miss Cybertron quite a bit.

>>>'So I can stop being your Bomb Burst to Normal Mech translation service and let Master Bludgeon pretty up your words from now on?’<<< Nightbird sent coyly to Bomb Burst.

Something if a sigh came back from Bomb Burst in turn. She smiled slightly under her battle mask.

"Our other option? Our other option is letting them do their own fragged dirty work. Trip their own booby traps, whatever the nutjob scientist they released has waiting for them."

Truth be told, Pointblank just needed to vent. They were fragged at this point no matter what they did. He'd go along with the others, but when even this messed up scenario gave him a clear shot to take out a 'Con or two, he was gonna take it.

"Forget it. Don't listen to me. I'm just frayed to my last wire coupling. Let's just go. End this."

"Yes, thank you Lightspeed. And thank you Pyro. Keeping your eye on what really matters is a good reminder for me," Maximus said as he rose to his full height and began to stalk after Wheelie in his heavy footsteps. The high-pitched frequency that had been emanating from the ominous mountain structure faded into silence.

”The reports of this planet from way back suggest acid rain being a naturally occurring weather condition here. The Primal Vanguard never reported encountering any sentient life either. But our reports are over thousand vorns old and biological life can evolve surprisingly fast.Plenty of dangerous wildlife though. Nothing someone as big as you needs to worry about. "Good information to have, Skyhammer. My familiarity with Jhiaxus and this world is unfortunately minimal. I learned more when I became the warden on Garrus-9 of course, but he was just one of countless prisoners that went in and out of that facility. Hopefully he's had so little time, we can make a dent in his work before he really gains any momentum."

Max then opened a comm to Wheelie.

“You did WHAT?!” Whirl exclaimed, practically shooting out closer towards Fortress Maximus. “Hey horn-head, I don’t think you seem to remember that those violent violets are the dirty slag-lickers who smashed your face in, blew up your prison, and left us for scrap just so you can go off and have your moment of glory like Optiwantimus over there!”

Pointblank and some of the others had offered their two cents into the situation, most more optimistic than some. Whirl was sort of in agreement with Pointblank, albeit more angry than melancholy than the blue and red bot.

“So, we get out of this rain... Then what?” Pyro inquired, looking to Fortress Maximus and Skyhammer for their next step.

Brainstorm began to inquire, finger resting beneath his mouthplate curiously as he tried to gaze out from under the rock and towards any sort of structure nearby. The teal and white engineer perked up a little as he remembered an object he managed to construct during their time wandering Garrus 9. He reached into a hidden storage section located on his back and pulled out the device in question.

“I might have our way inside, should we stumble upon Jhiaxus’ base.”

Whirl’s singular optic fixated on the device.

“Okay quiz-boy, that’s someone’s fuel pump. Normally I’m about disembowling Decepticons, but that’s a new low. How long have you been carrying that?”

“A while. Originally we were gonna utilize this device in the mines of Garrus 9 to buy us a chance to escape, but now it could give us entry into whatever complex Jhiaxus has.”

Semper Tyrannis - Hangar

Octopunch turned to the sound of another one of Snaptrap’s cohorts welcoming him back to the team.

“Aha! Skalor, you miserable cod! Feelin’ good now that I’m free from Autobot shackles.” He looked back over the column of assembled mechs, most of them being the rest of Snaptrap’s command. “Heh, Looks like it’s a goddamn Seacon reunion.” He stopped for a moment and looked to Nautilator, his tentacles flicking absent-mindedly as they awaited to embark. “Who’s he? The new guy?”

-

Sinnertwin stood a mech or two back from Hun-Grr, granting his master a wide berth as he stood anxiously awaiting to leap into the fray. Such excitement, what prey lies below for he and his fellow Terrorcons to feast into? The questions only rattled in his processor as he awaited Hungrrrr’s call to attack.

Skyfall’s mental processors were getting so overwhelmed he could swear they were going haywire. Everyone around was having an intense moral debate, and for some reason, Skyfall didn’t want to join in. It was probably for the best. This planet looked like hell, felt like hell, and was pretty much literal hell.

He didn’t bother listening to much of the commotion and stood to the side, looking through his visor. Maybe Maximus was right. It was better to die an honourable death fighting in a battle than it was to rot and be culled inside some cramped Decepticon cell.

Skyfall wasn’t in a good mood either way.

Snarler found himself wandering through the Corridors sniffing along, exploring the new scents. Suddenly his processors clicked on something familiar. He looked up. "Carnivac..." He said before going back to the scent.

It didn't take him long to find his long time partner busy in the weapons locker looking for his guns.

--

Carnivac had managed to get himself imprisoned in that Pit called Garrus 9. Not happy about it, and the manic tracker had managed to land himself in solitary for his rather violent outbursts nearly as soon as he arrived. He had no idea who else had been imprisoned there, but wasn't complaining about his release.

And then Snarler walked in.

"Well, there's a sight for sore optics... Good to see you Snarler." He said.

--

Snarler grunted and transformed. "Chief here too."

--

"Good..." Carnivac mused absently. "Where you been?"

--

"Prison." Snarler's answered simply.

---

Carnivac looked a bit exasperated. Snarler could be difficult. "What about the rest of the crew?" He finally asked.

--

"Batty and Skullgrin around, Dey never got locked up." Snarler answered sitting down on a crate next to Carnivac. "Batty got a Birdy now. De rest.. dunno. Cheif and Batty down on de planet.'

--

"Well that's a start." Carnivac muttered. "So Bludgeon got sent down to the plantet... Interesting. Would have thought he'd call on all of us to track down Jhiaxus."

He briefly considered asking what Snarler meant by Bomb Burst had found a bird, but decided it would be way to confusing and best to ask the assassin directly.

---

Snarler's shrugged. "Batty wanted quiet." He said.

--

As if it was planned... Iguanus made an entrance, discovering his former... And soon to be current.. teammates sitting around chit chatting. Delightful. Note the sarcasm.

"Well..." He said as the two looked to him. "Surprise surprise.... Of all the mechs to meet here, I find the two of you. Bomb Burst wanted quiet for what?"

---

"Scouting de planet." Snarler offered.

---

"And he didn't ask me to come along?" Iguanus grumbled.

--

"You didn't answer Batty, he got irritated." Snarler said.

--

"Bomb Burst is always irritated." Iguanus pointed out. "I will have to make him miserable when he gets back." He paused a moment. "So if you two are here, Skullgrin is here somewhere, Bludgeon and Bomb Burst are Planetside... Who else from the Crew are here?"

Snarler shrugged and Carnivac shook his head.

Iguanus gave the two an irritated look and opened up the old Crew comm channel. >>>"Who all is onboard the Semper Tyrannus from the Crew?"<<< He asked knowing that everyone would get the message... Except Bomb Burst and Bludgeon being they were on the planet.

--

>>"Oh for the love of... I am trying to practice here!"<<

---

"Bugly." Carnivac and Iguanus said in unison.

>>"Well meet us at the bar, Bugly. Practice later, we got a crew meet up."<< Iguanus said.

--

"Oh yeah, Octopunch and Stranglehold are here somewhere." Snarler said and stood up. "Dey went off on dere own."

--

"Huh... Whatever. Let's go have a drink and celebrate freedom... Not that they could catch me to lock me up... But freedom none the less." Iguanus suggested.

---

"Sounds good." Carnivac said and followed Iguanus to the corridor.

”I have spent a great deal of time studying reports from pre-war conflicts. Call it a hobby I guess. Not that it did anything to stop Scorponok from outmaneuvering us.” Skyhammer sighed in response to Fortress Maximus. To be honest he was bit surprised that a such a legendary figure within Autobot ranks had not studied his prisoners more. Then again, he had learned the hard way that none of them were infallible. Nebulos and Garrus-9 had made it a cruel reality.

”And if Scorponok could deceive us the way he did… I fear to think what can Jhiaxus do...” He whispered just before Whirl nearly launched an attack of his own against Fortress Maximus and left Skyhammer stare at the scene unfolding before his optics in a mild shock that was only deepened with Brainstorm revealing he had been carrying around a fuel pump of some unfortunate victim of the war. Had they fallen so low that they couldn’t separate right from wrong anymore? Carrying someone’s fuel pump around like that? They could have as well started to call themselves Decepticons...

Wildfly wrote: "Hey, Slog, you alright?"

Hearing his avian teammate’s voice caught Slog by surprise. His questions was, well, even more unexpected.

After knowing Wildfly for so long and, thanks to their recent experience, so well, part of him knew he should’ve been better prepared for something from the random mech. Well, I didn’t, did I?

The problem now was how to respond. Until now, Slog hadn’t considered whether he should be honest or not. If his anxiety was showing, did that mean he was failing as the team’s leader? Was it really a failure to feel? He didn’t know, but more than that, he had the feeling his fellow Monstercons would know if he was being truthful or not.

In the end, he decided to remain as honest as possible. “I’m fine, Wildfly. Just anxious to get started.” He paused, thought about adding his concern that Jhiaxus was waiting for them, but decided against it. The size of the assault force was enough of a hint toward that.

He started to turn back to face forward, but paused. Almost as an afterthought, he added, “We find him, we deal with him. Together.” He hoped his implied message was understood.

~~~
Cutthroat rocked back and forth as the wait continued. He’d long ago tuned out any sound other than his or the Terrorcons’ name. His near non-existent patience was running dangerously low.
He studied the various mechs around them, weighing which would mostly likely survive the upcoming battle. If it was a battle. He chuckled softly at the thought. He didn’t intend to wait for any of them, not even Hun-Grrr and the Terrorcons once he reached the surface.
No, this was going to be his battle, his carnage. His world. Battlefields were chaotic at best, and that only played to his and the Terrorcons’ strengths. Let the others worry about tactics, strengths, weaknesses, and reserves. He’d finally be able to spread his wings without concern for who stood in his way. Autobot or Decepticon, it mattered little once the energon lust was upon him. Any that got in his way would do so at their own risk.
Images of him sweeping down, taking the Autobots by surprise filled his processor, fueling his desire to rip their sparks out of their chassis and savor each delectable drop of their energon.
There were others in this room that had their own scores to settle with the Autobots. He knew and understood that, but that wouldn’t hinder him. One had to have a conscience to be bothered by such things. Perhaps, he would have the chance to repay his fellow Terrorcons for attacking him on Hun-Grrr’s orders. What better way for him to display his dominance? There was no predicting how things would play out on the battlefield. Such a thought proved to be beyond enticing as oil slowly dripped from his mouth at the thought.
He hadn't heard a reply from the young native, but their survival on this world was not resting solely upon him. It would have to be a collective effort.
”I have spent a great deal of time studying reports from pre-war conflicts. Call it a hobby I guess. Not that it did anything to stop Scorponok from outmaneuvering us,” Skyhammer had said as Maximus stepped out of his temporary cover and began trudging in the direction of the cyberformed mountain.
"Looking back, I don't know what would've. I made the best decisions I could with the information I had. I'm sure you did also. We can leave it to Prowl to second-guess our decisions. Doing it to ourselves isn't going to help. I'm telling myself that as much as I am you."
”And if Scorponok could deceive us the way he did… I fear to think what can Jhiaxus do...”
"Don't let fear steer your last steps," Maximus said, talking with Skyhammer the way he would have to one of his old guards back on Garrus when the prison life was getting to much and threatened to break certain 'Bots. "If these are to be ours, then at least we don't go out in some execution chamber. We go out fighting, and hopefully there's a peaceful Afterspark waiting to greet us after devoting this much time to war."
"The Autobots are advancing towards the mountain where we originally discovered the facility," Reflector said, his optics watching all of the units that had been deployed thus far.
"Have they triggered any exterior defenses?" Cyclonus asked, stepping away from the 2nd Fleet Commander.
"None as yet, sir."
"Jhiaxus's manipulations of the planet may extend well beyond the terrain that he has cyberformed," Cyclonus said, rubbing his chin structure thoughtfully as he, too, examined the readouts and the feedback coming back in to the Tyrannis. "The elements of that world were hostile to begin with. I wonder if he's found a way to exacerbate them."
"Our little friend speaks true of the signal. If anything, the mountains would provide some shelter if we can find some tall enough ledges to hide under. I wonder if this terraforming is causing the weather we have now. I know some would say this is one of the best ways to help our race but at what cost. If we are lucky, there isn't too much life on this planet outside of the plant life and maybe some animal life."
Wheelie heard Nosecone back up Wheelie on his information. It was also likely that the cyberforming was changing the weather, but then again the weather had always been rough here on this planet and so this acid rain wasn't exactly much worse than he could remember it being before. Also, Wheelie kind of hoped that the monstrous animals that used to be here were gone, simply because of the fact they had tried to eat him daily, despite them not knowing Wheelie was inedible to them.
"I know lots of the animals here, if we run into them it's best to steer clear!", Wheelie rhymed as they continued on. Wheelie endured through the acidic rain, moving in a quick but steady paced march at the head of the Autobot troupe.
"Yeah. I agree. Little guy heading for the mountains is our best shot. It's surely what the 'Cons want anyway. Why not play their game for a while? Better here than in a cell. As for you guys? Apologies accepted. At least from me. We've served in this sector of the universe together for a long time. If this is how we go down? Well, then it's been an honor,"
"We can play their game and win, what they did to us and Garrus-9 was a Sin! Don't worry about going down, we're going to move up, like rocket, from the ground!", Wheelie said. He refused to let himself or his Autobot companions be done in now. There was still much life ahead, and some Con plans for them to ruin! And if it didn't work? Well they'd fail in the best way....doing something that matters. Wheelie believed that with all his little Spark.
Wheelie wasn't paying much attention to Skyhammer, Whirl, or Brainstorm, as he was busy trying to locate an entrance into the caves he knew where in the mountains as they approached them. The closer they got, the taller and more ominous the large rock formations loomed over all of them, even the most towering of the Autobots present.
>>"Are you seeing any sort of caves, ridges or other ways inside?"<<
It was a comm message from Fort Max.
Wheelie's optics scanned the rock face of the nearest of the mountain's protrusions and located an entrance of sorts, indeed, though something was off about it. He opened his commlink and replied,
>>"I see a a big door, but it's not on the floor. We'll have to climb up first, and it seems there's more for us, in store."<<
The entrance to the cave or whatever it was indeed had a door, on a wide ledge, requiring some climbing and or flight to reach. The walls of the area also seemed to be paneled. This got Wheelie wondering about what they might be up against. Some hidden weapons waiting to charbroil their chassis'? Also, far above in the sky, a small, almost unnoticeable avian figure circled about. Wheelie hadn't noticed that though. What was it?
Acid Storm shook his head slightly. "Living up to his nickname." He remarked as they arrived at the bar. "Do you think it might be wise to wait until he gets here before going in, Nova?"
Nova immediately heard Ion Storm's response. It sounded like he was ticked off about something but he was not sure what. After he disconnected his comm, he looked over at Acid Storm and heard his comment along with his question. "I suppose...but the way that he sounded, he may or may not be heading to join us. For now, I guess we would head in and see if he does indeed show up." He walked into the ship's re-fueling bar and waited to see if his trine leader would join him or wait to see if Ion Storm does show up.
“I’m fine, Wildfly. Just anxious to get started,” Slog initially said in response to Wildfly's query. Icepick grinned and nodded.
"As are we all, I would imagine," he said, assuringly, or at least attempting to be so.
“We find him, we deal with him. Together.”
"Absolutely," Icepick agreed. "His recompense for doing this to us has been a long time coming. Whatever his fate, it will be well-earned."
Acid Storm nodded slightly followed Nova Storm.
Given that most of the other Decepticons were in the hangar waiting to deploy to the surface, the bar seemed pretty empty. He went to the bar and got himself, and Nova, a drink.
He found it amusing that the Decepticons were heading down to a planet notorious for acid rain. "That planet down there is constantly pelting down acid rain... And we had nothing to do it. Such a pity." He smirked a bit at Nova Storm.
“Indeed it is.” The words came out sounding more balanced that Slog had expected, and for that, he was grateful. Maybe I’ll get a handle on this leadership thing yet, he thought, turning his attention back to the viewscreens that, until now, he hadn’t been paying much attention to.
It was a failing he wanted to correct as soon as possible, for if he didn’t know what to expect on the planet’s surface, he’d be a hindrance to their efforts. He was bothered that he’d allowed himself to be so easily sidetracked with his and the Monstercons’ quest for vengeance, but could anyone blame him? He didn’t think so, at least, he wouldn’t blame any of his team for that.
He turned to watch each of them. Each faceplate held a different emotion as each was dealing with what was coming in their own way.
Turning his attention back to the viewscreen, he found himself transfixed and appalled at the changes Jhiaxus was making. In a way, they were each beautiful before and after the cyberforming. True works of art, if one appreciated such destruction.
After taking in the scene, he switched his focus to the Autobots making their way through the area. Part of him knew he should’ve been paying attention to the Decepticons already there, but he felt the Autobots were the important linchpin in their operations.
With his processor refocused, he opened a comm. to his team.
>>Monstercons, watch for what the Autobots unleash. We may need to know what to expect when our time comes.<<
“What’s the point of watching Autobots die when we should be the ones killing them.” Though he spoke in a low hiss, Cutthroat’s tone was the kind that carried.
He didn’t care who heard him, as long as they stopped keeping the real hunters from taking part. How did the others get to go first? It was he and the Terrorcons that were best suited for the environment waiting for them. He had accepted the fact that he’d finish off any injured Autobots he came across (Perhaps, some Decepticons as well, he thought, eyeing those gathered around him and the Terrorcons.), but if their systems were polluted with something from the world itself, wouldn’t that affect their taste? What was the point in devouring one’s enemies if they weren’t agreeable to his palate?
Out of the corner of his optic, he thought he spotted something orange, but when he turned, he didn’t see it again. Was that you, little bite?
Oil dripped from his mouth as he was sure he saw the prey that had eluded him previously. He quietly wondered how he could’ve forgotten the tasty morsel.
~~~

Airachnid stood with her arms crossed, switching her attention between the viewscreen and the officers in attendance. She prided herself on being patient, in outwaiting her opponent until they made a mistake and she could move in.

But this was… different.

For the first time in a while, she had no control over what was happening or what she’d do, and that infuriated her even more. It reminded her too much of her time in the Autobot prison. There she’d been virtually helpless aside from her sharp mind and even sharper vocalizer. She wondered how long she would’ve survived had the Autobots not feared for their prisoners’ safety and kept her confined.

I’d be scrap floating out there with the remains of the prison asteroid. Or floating in some salvage tub that was most likely scouring through the asteroid’s remains for something profitable or of use, but she didn’t give that portion much thought. It was in the past, and this was the present. Soon, she’d be able to secure her future. How she did that depended on a few variables, but nothing she couldn’t handle. If an officer or two didn’t come back, that’d open a place for her to insert herself. If she couldn’t be free of the Decepticons, she may as well acquire as much power and energon as she could before things would shift as they always did and she’d be on her own once more.

She enjoyed seeing some of the early Decepticons struggled through the now metallic growth on the planet’s surface. If there was ever a world created for me…

She let the thought trail off as a smirk slowly played across her faceplate. Yes, a perfect home for one with my talents. I may return here someday soon.

"Aha! Skalor, you miserable cod! Feelin' good now that I'm free from the Autobot shackles."

Skalor sniggered. “Who’re you callin’ a miserable cod, you walkin’, talkin’ calamari!” He slapped the jolly old Octopunch on his shoulder.

Looking up to the big half-shell butcher, Skalor eagerly asked, “Hey Snaps! When is it gonna be our turn to go?”

The closer they got to the mountain, the heavier the rains seemed to get. The more it burned. The whipping winds felt like rust on an exposed nerve ending.

"I know lots of the animals here, if we run into them it's best to steer clear!" the protomech said.

"No argument from me," Pointblank said as he continued to run in the direction of the ominous blacksteel mountain.

"We can play their game and win, what they did to us and Garrus-9 was a Sin! Don't worry about going down, we're going to move up, like rocket, from the ground!"

Getting to the base of the mountain, Pointblank was pretty much in survival mode at this point. He'd help the others when he could, but there wouldn't be a lot he could do if he and the others managed to stay stuck out here where the elements could just eat away at them like some slow-acting acid.

Up it is.

Pointblank began to climb faster than he'd ever done in his life.

Entering the bar

Iguanus looked down at his wrist as a beeping sound softly went off. Opening up the "personal assistant" it reminded him that he was supposed to be reporting to the hangar. "Scrap." He muttered.

---

Bugly walked into the bar as Iguanus cursed and looked quizzically at his team mate. "Scrap what?" He asked before looking around the bar noting the only two other patrons were two of the three Rainmakers. He frowned.

---

"Scrap is I forgot we were ordered to the hangar. Didn't the rest of you get the message?" Iguanus asked.

--

"Yes but I ignored it." Bugly answered.

--

Iguanus stared in disbelief. "You don't just ignore an order from Skorponok, you idiot." He grumbled and looked to Carnivac and Snarler.

--

"He not de Cheif." Snarler responded Carnivac just shrugged and grinned wickedly.

--

"In this case, yes he is the cheif, Snarler!" Iguanus certainly sounded exasperated and was now remembering how much he disliked others. He finally took note of the Rainmakers as well. "We'd all... Including you two..." He motioned to the seekers... "Better make for the hangar, they haven't left yet."

--

Acid Storm had watched the exchange between the recent arrivals, and with reluctant resignation, nodded. Iguanus was right, and knowing that Con, he would rather them out to the higher upd if they didn't go to the hangar. "You do have a point, Iguanus." He finally spoke as he looked to Nova Storm. "We should go play in the acid rain."

Fortress Maximus barely put any effort into slowing down as he closed in on the base of the mountain. Had it been a typical mountain, he likely would have caused a small avalanche of rock. As it was, he simply buckled the metal, but it didn't give. Too thick.

He had entertained a pretty brief notion that he could have simply smashed through the base of the mountain and found himself in the midst of Jhiaxus lab, whereby he could unleash the veritable mountain of frustration he had inside.

Pointblank seemed to have the next best idea, the one Max had also prepared for if his original notion didn't pay off: climb.

So be it.

Semper Tyrannis-Hangar

Overbite was more than a little enthralled by the intel images that were being fed back to the Tyrannis from the surface. It kinda looked like Cybertron down there. Only this Cybertronian mountain was sitting on the edge of an ocean.

"Bloody frag boys...got some of our own element t'play in down there. It's been how long now?"

Nosecone followed the rest of the Autobots to the base of the mountain. As with all large structures this one was much bigger up close. He overheard talk about a cave. As he looked, he spotted it easily enough with his advanced sensors. It was several meters up. It was so high he almost wished the zTechnobots could form Logicor so they could give the Autobots a lift up. He wondered if they did if they would been able to control their combination once the mad scientist realized what they had done. Removing his influence in the combined form will be one of the many things his team will do once they get a chance to examine each other.

"So who is going next? I see a decent route along the wall even if it won't be easy. I wish I could transform and dig out way in. Even with the acid bath, I believe the claws still function."

Hanger Bay

Seawing was getting very impatient with all of this waiting. He understood the need of intelligence and using the Autobots as pawns and bait but when will Lord Scorponok give his blessings for the Seacons to take the sea?
