To the relief of everyone

Not everyone. X3 I could do without, but the 1st Wolverine movie I enjoyed for what it was. Not high on my grading of the X-universe films, and a definite black mark as far as how Deadpool was portrayed at the end, but otherwise I thought the dynamic between Victor and Logan was really good, as well as the inclusion of certain other characters from the universe. Also, I found Victor to be a much more enjoyable character than Logan, but that may have been due to Liev Schreiber's superior skills as an actor.
Now, onto
Apocalypse. Overall, I liked it. It wasn't great, but it was entertaining, and to me much better than DoFP, which was too long and boring. This had more action and I liked the story better.
I have to disagree with you, Burn, about Mystique. To me she wasn't enough of a screen presence to detract from the film. She was just there for the sake of being there, it seems. Her role could have been filled by a few other characters. I did like the fact that she got her iconic blue-and-white outfit at the end.
I really liked how they treated Magneto's character, I believe he's now the deepest and most developed character in the X-films, due to the trauma he has gone through and the pendulum-like swing he is taking between being a hero and a villain.
I still don't like Nightcrawler, but this version was much more tolerable than the atrocity from X2. Though I do find it a bit of a letdown that they got away from his origin story of being Mystique's son.
How is it that no one even mentions (in the movie or anywhere else among fans) that Moira was actually responsible for waking up Apocalypse (though I don't think they even referred to him by that name, just to the events that are the result of his rule)?
Once again, to me, Quicksilver steals the entire movie, just with the couple of scenes he has. Though I really had to suspend my disbelief when he started slapping Apocalypse around.
Wolverine's scene was actually done well and placed well, it didn't come off as gratuitous at all. He came in, sliced and stabbed, got his relationship started with Jean, and disappeared. Simple and to the point.
Speaking of starting a relationship with Jean, I liked this Scott Summers much better than the older version. Maybe I will warm up to James Marsden's version now that I got some backstory in the films.
I really wanted to see a shot with Jean, Hank, Scott, and Warren in the film, even if it was a battle scene. IIRC, they were the original 4 in the comics, right? Giving them their own moment seems just the right thing. But in these movies, just like with the Bay films, not a lot goes right when it comes to origins.
The end sets up the original from 2000 real well, especially Charles and Eric's conversation with the lines they spoke at the beginning of the original. Though I think there can (and probably will) be one more film set in between this one and the original, probably a story from the 90s. Hopefully we'll get to see Jubilee in action in that one, as well as Psylocke's return and possibly joining the group.
One thing I was (and still am) hoping for was a redo of Juggernaut. That's one character that really needs a proper introduction into this universe, and if X3 indeed is wiped out (I'm also confused about that, it was one more thing DoFP convoluted) they could start fresh with a proper version of the character, hopefully played by an actual actor. I know Vinnie Jones is an actor, but there was a lot of CGI used with him in X3, wasn't there?
As for the post-credit scene, that was the only waste of time of the movie for me. I sat through about 6 minutes of credits for a scene that doesn't explain anything. Stupid and unnecessary.Unlike
Burn, I don't feel like the movie itself was a waste of time. I might even go see it again eventually on a weekend when there's nothing else out.
