And suddenly, I'm more excited for Guardians 2 than I am Strange. Though I'm still looking forward to Doctor Strange.

He wasn't an established director to begin with, so I'm not sure how much of the movie's quality can be attributed to him. I guess the sequel will show us.

Reynolds has been the driving force behind a Deadpool movie for years. So while I never like a change of director, I at least put faith in Reynolds.

Re: Marvel TV Series and Movies
Saw Doctor Strange. Definitely more dramatic than some of the films have been lately. Attempts at humor were mostly miss though the Cloak of Levitation got the most laughs.
For those wondering about a certain arch-nemesis of Strange.
Dormammu is in the film and serves as the final confrontation. Strange knows he cannot kill him so he has to force him to bargain to leave Earth alone. But he will undoubtedly return next film.
The Green Infinty Stone (time) is in the medallion Strange wears. He puts it back on the pedestal where he found it at the end, intent to master it though conveniently in place for it to be taken by Thanos in Infinity War
Mid-credit scene
Strange meets with Thor. Thor knows Loki is alive and Loki has knowingly screwed up. They need Strange's help in locating Odin, who Loki threw to Earth. Thor is also seen holding a quart glass of beer that he chugs off camera and Strange refills using his magic.
post-credit scene
Mordo, disillusioned by the actions of the Ancient One and Strange, begins his crusade to get rid of sorcerers.

I don't think I hated any bit of it. I especially loved how pulled off DOrmammu's head, with the lines not looking stupid.

Not to dredge this old thing up but the Time Gem being contained in the Eye of Agamotto means I was right, and it was just a coincidence. I don't know why it suddenly popped into my head.

Doctor Strange was a good movie. Sure, it's another origin movie, but it introduces us to a different side of the greater MCU.
Cumberbatch was I expected, suited for the role. The fight scenes were well done. The story flowed nicely, though the final show down with the real big bad was a bit ... short. But it does the job of what it was meant to do. Introduce us to Strange, introduce us to a new aspect of the MCU, and of course lay the foundations for Stranges future appearances.

I actually really appreciated the fact that the showdown of which you speak wasn't so "end all, be all." It showed us that Dormammu is a threat, certainly, more of a cosmic asshole and less of the End of All Things that Thanos is. It also seemed fitting of an eons old space god thing. It also showed us Strange's cleverness when dealing with mystical threats.

While I actually hate the thought of this "theory", it may not be a coincidence. Of course these theorists are making a bit of a stretch by calling the Eye of Agamotto a "necklace"

I've always thought it's a fun theory, even if it does end up being debunked. I'll accept necklace at face value, but that and scepter always bothered me because yeah, it seems like a stretch. Of course, watch the Soul Stone be found in a giant Halibut, or be in the possession of a dude with Halitosis, or it's on Earth hidden somewhere in Halifax, or Hydroman has it, and that's how they'll tie in the Spider-Man film.
But really, we're looking at a 50% chance of this theory...remaining a theory.

I'm a little disappointed that he might have such a large role. Do they really need another one of the big names to help drive the movie?

But, isn't this kind of the point of the 'cinematic universe'? We're now deep enough into these movies that they can start bleeding into the other movies to help them actually feel grounded in the same universe?
I can't really put into words why I think it won't hurt the movie, but I think that by now, they know enough to not screw over the movie. Plus, I don't think it'll be that large of a role, and he is only continuing the established role set up for him as the gateway for Peter into this world.

Yet they only reference previous events in Doctor Strange. Even for the casual movie goer that would be enough for them to know it's in the MCU.

I don't think it'll hurt the movie, I just don't feel it's necessary. Are they trying to emphasise the point that this new Spidey is in the MCU and to make us forget the past?

No, but its a shared universe, having cross-overs helps ground the story and and furthers the character arcs they have already established. If everyone was separate and never crossed over between movies, we'd all be saying that this was a huge missed opportunity for the mcu

Here's my take on why Tony is in the film. Bear in mind, I have not been remotely excited for this new Spider-Man film.
He's there to alleviate the hesitations of fans like myself, who don't want another Spidey film so soon after the franchise was already rebooted and failed. Now, I actively WANT to see this film. Not just because of Tony's involvement; vulture looks cool. But having him in it certainly doesn't hurt.
As far as characterization goes, we're seeing now how Tony wants to train New Avengers, filling the gap left by Cap after Civil War. It's very much a natural evolution of his wanting to retire, almost succeeding, and having to clean up the mess that no one can handle except fo him.

I wonder if the script for this film is a modified version of what The Amazing Spider-Man 3 or The Sinister Six was supposed to be. Regardless, this seems to be a small improvement over the last 2 films and a definitely huge improvement over the Tobey Maguire crap-fests.
