I think it's the cannon. It just looks a bit weak. Megatron's cannon is a huge part of his image regardless of what alt mode he has.

The head/face sculpt is a bit off, too. I think it would look better as a head for BW Megatron, not this version. Maybe he just doesn't photograph well (because there are some toys where you just can't get a good angle of them), but will look much better in-hand.

I preferred the unpainted one too, the silver is a little bit too shiny. This may be a handpainted prototype though so I'll wait until I see proper in hand pics and footage. If I do decide to pick him up I will either paint the cannon black or look to find something else that might work as a replacement. Not bothered about tank mode as it's the bot mode that I'm interested in.

You're probably right that it is hand painted, although the swirly gray/silver plastic kinda looked neat. It does but it also seems like it picked up bulk/lost detail with paint applied. I'm hoping it gets a better paint application during the final phases and looks like it did unpainted. Well this is much better. The red looks darker and the silver paint isn't so shiny after all, must have been the way the photos were taken. I think he looks pretty good, and his scale with Classics Prime (still my favourite Prime figure outside of MP) is spot on as far as I'm concerned. Scales perfectly. I'll definitely pick this guy up.
