Like other awesome sci-fi, Robocop, Terminator, Blade Runner, Aliens... Dare I say short-circuit? Shutup, I loved it.

Stagnation is never a good thing. Ever. Look where stagnation got Transformers. The franchise nearly died twice. But that's convenient to omit when you call the movies "the cancer killing Transformers."

I never called it that. chill out capt. failure.
I was just agreeing with buddy about 80's movies ruling. Everything I've seen in transformers, from Beast wars, to the Asian series (that I honestly didn't watch being more westernized) seemed different to me. Animated was different too, the comics were all quite different from marvel to how IDW is now. The WFC and FOC games did awesome, and they are essentially going back to the roots. Anyway, it's all just stipulation and assumption, but speaking from my pov, what got me back into collection were the classics figures, not Energon or Armada or Cybertron, since I never watched those shows being in the west.
The movies don't really do anything new anyway, aside from new designs. The Dark of the Moon is a glorified G1 episode.

Why? Because I like G1 but I don't like the movies? It's G1... a cartoon that's all sorts of ****ed up. I don't go to a live action movie expecting a G1 plot. As you said, stagnation is bad. If anything, the movies stagnated as they ran out of ideas and recycled a G1 idea. Not saying that hasn't happened in other TF stuff, but the movies aren't any exception.

I look forward to it. Besides the fact they're fun movies half the enjoyment is from the bitter tears of the fanboys.
And to that I proclaim: Long live the Bay!

I stopped reading right there. You do not speak for everyone and you damn sure don't speak for me. You can just stop that line of thinking right there, pal.
Wheelie Prime wrote:It’s always funny to hear people who spend their spare time discussing the appropriate way to talk about Transformers call other people fan boys.
The arguments are always the same, so allow me:
1. Yes, I think we agree that nobody wants to see a movie that faithfully reenacts G1 (dumb G1, we’re all so stupid for ever having liked you). Lets drop it.
2. Yes, it’s all about money, but so is every other movie in Hollywood. Are you saying that makes it impossible for Hollywood to ever make a good movie? Or are you saying it’s impossible to make a good movie about Transformers? Or is it that you just wouldn’t care to see a good movie about Transformers? Just curious.
3. The TF movies are here because of the evolution of special effects, they would have been a reality, regardless of who the director would've been. And if the movies did indeed save the franchise, they could have easily done so without sucking. No reason to be thankful to the guy who need to be talked into sticking around to make another few hundred million off of something every person here is more passionate about than he is.
4. Please stop saying: “You just don’t like these movies because he's making them for a big audience, and not just for you." Watch Joss Whedon's Avengers, talk to some Avengers fans and some non-Avengers fans who’ve all seen it. Then get back to me.
5. The problem is not Transformers. We know now that people like watching giant, transforming robots wage war. And it was never necessary to dumb down a concept originally intended for kids. Transformers were never the problem. Michael Bay is.
Yes, it hides behind Bay’s successful producers, enormous budgets, state-of-the-art special effects and the incredible acting talent he works with, but it’s always there. There’s something wrong with these movies, at a very basic level. Bay just can't tell a story. And that’s what ruins the movies. Not the fact that it’s not G1 enough.
When we talk about these movies, we’re talking about one or two minor plot holes. If you fail to notice these rather evident issues, kudos, enjoy the movies. I wish I could.
6. As to the quality of the story, are you serious? It’s an action movie with car chases, fight sequences and explosions so the story can’t possibly be good? Really? You can’t think of any examples? Again, if you are able to somehow ignore this, or if you just don’t care and you just like looking at the pretty lights, good for you. But for people who deny that the stories are weak, or wonder what’s weak about them, the answer is, honestly, far too long to include here. If you care but just don't understand what constitutes strong, efficient and powerful writing, check out books like David Trottier’s The Screenwriter’s Bible and/or Robert McKee’s Story. Both were written by successful Hollywood screenwriting gurus and will quickly make you see very clearly where these stories are lacking and why they are subpar, even by Hollywood standards.
7. Yes, Bay obviously has trouble seeing a robot as a character. Personally, I don’t care if Starscream turns into a frying pan, I’m just not interested in characters without a personality. And most of the Decepticons in these movies just growl. If you don’t hate Transformers, I don't see why you would even want to defend that.
Tell me if you think Bay has ever taken the twenty minutes it takes to watch a single episode of any Transformers show or read a single Transformers comic. Honestly, I think it’s laughable to act like that’s too much to expect (again, compare to Joss Whedon, Christopher Nolan, John Favreau, etc.).
Okay, this turned into a ridiculously long rant. Sorry.

He meant everyone wanted a live-action movie, not that everyone felt it was the worst. You never wanted a live-action movie? I did. Hell, I want a Futurama live action movie, with the voices somehow dubbed over with the originals.

So when you was a kid playing with transformers you never wished that they ould make a live action movie. You never wondered what it would be like if transformers were real. It's not about the movie its about wondering what they would really be like. Thats what playing with toys is all about, your imagining that it's real, you take on the roll, and for that brief moment in your head magic happens. I never used to play with my toys I used to line them up and stare at them, but it was going on in my head. I did play with transformers a few times, but when you line them all up and then prime says roll out, after you have transformed a few it's tea time, so I used to play with expendable toys that i could throw abouut and break, Transformers were to pretty to play with I loved looking at them and imagining.
I'm not your Pal, Buddy
:/

I enjoy watching the Transformers movie, but I hate it as a Transformers movie, yes it's fun to watch but I expected more. And so should you, thats why you are here and not on a Go-Bots site. We all love transformers lets not fight. It's bay we should kiil lol.
I think people need to realise that enjoying the film doesnt mean that you like it, but to say that thie films are a perfect outcome is ridiculous, and thats why people are harsh to people that back bay. Can anyone one really say that the films were the best they could of been, just becuase you like the movie doesn't mean you thought it was great, it shouldnt be people who hate the movie and people who love it, I hate the movie but i will still watch all of them becuase they are still fun, but not what I was hoping.
Bay is a smurf and you will get looked down at if you think he's the right person for the job. It's not being ignorant to other people opinions, sometimes there is a right and wrong answer and the answer is Bay is wrong.

Well he'll be disappointed. I'm done here. There is no discussion and no respect from the drooling fanboys. Not like there ever was of course.
