Michael Bay's Personal Letter to Theater Projectionist
- Motto: "I ain't got time to bleed!"
- Weapon: Gattling Gun
How committed is director Michael Bay to making sure you get the most out of your 3D moviegoing experience? So much so that in addition to urging the heads of major theater chains to show Transformers DOTM with projector brightness levels cranked up, he's also sent a personal letter to theater projectionists. In this letter posted by Deadline Hollywood he asks projectionists to make sure Transformers DOTM is shown using his recommended brightness settings rather than the cost cutting and bulb life extending lower settings which Bay describes as producing underwhelming 3D.

Agreed. You can bash what he does to the Transformers, and talk about how much better a G1 movie would be, but you can't say he doesn't know what he's doing from a theatrical pov.

Dear Michael Bay,
I sadly will not be watching Transformers in 3D, I await a personal letter to convince me otherwise.
Forever yours,
Josh

I actually know a few people whom work as projectionist and such, in various theaters, it will be fun to see how much truth there be behind this letter muahahahahaha
Unless we have some theatre workers already present at this forum? So whats the word? Did ya get a letter?

Michael Bay is such an inbred moron.
Yeah, he's a real hero all right.
Is he going to pay for this? From all the money he made from those "stupid Saturday morning cartoons..." Movies? (An actual quote from Bay on WHY he would NOT make a Trasnformers movie...oh, wait, he did. What a spineless sell out).
Theaters are suffering right now. Like it or not, they are. 70 - 90 percent of box office totals get turned back to the studio. Theaters survive on concession sales. (Which is why they are so bloody expensive. Movie companies REFUSE to take a smaller cut at the box office. So, their greed trickles to the consumer, aka, you.) Projectors are turned down for a reason: cost efficiency on BOTH the projector bulbs (which are SUPER expensive) AND the electricity it takes to run them.
Bay probably didn't even write this letter. I doubt he can even read. Much less care about anyone or anything but his fat pockets. This letter has NOTHING to do with Bay being a hero. He's an egotistical no-talent ass clown who sold out to do 3 Transformers movies to bail out his failing career. He's just trying to milk this for all it's worth.

Yes I can. Micheal Bay doesn't know what he is doing. Ever see one of his films? They're a F'ing mess. And NO. Micheal Bay has NO CLUE on how to run a movie theater. The man can't even thread a projector. Seriously guys.
Don't be so quick to lick Bay's filthy toes. There's other sides to this story, and a reason why things are they way they are. If Bay was such a hero, he'd take a smaller cut of the box office to help struggling theaters to pay for this expense. 90 percent of box office tickets goes back to Paramount and Bay. How much of that is he going to give back to the theaters? Not a f'ing dime.
He's a greedy money mongering whore. He does't care about you, about Transformers (obviously), theaters, or even a movie presentation. He just wants more $$$. He's a sell out. Why else would he make 3 films for a franchise that he called "stupid Saturday morning cartoons!"

Wah.
For that 10-30 percent that you do get, it is your responsibility to have the best equipment possible for the highest quality product. If that is something you do not agree with, you can do 1 of 2 things. Get the studios to make a better deal with you or get the hell out of the theater business.
If this letter indeed came from Bay, I congratulate him for standing up for the top-notch product that he has produced and making sure its presentation doesn't get butchered due to cheap equipment or incompetent operators of a projector.

On topic...That's quite a nice thing to do but I wont be seeing it in 3D. 3D just hurts my eyes and my eyes arent in their top condition if you know what I mean.

Not paying attention to the criticizing I have to say that I like this kind of dedication to the work. I'm gonna be hoping that his movies post-Transformers are also gonna be remarkable.

Maybe if he spent more time on a script and not having pathetic, lowest common denominator, idiot humor in his movies, they'd be worth investing in extra equipment.
Or even worth watching. ROTF was trash, this will most likely be trash. Maybe a higher grade of garbage, but garbage all the same.

And just like in the 1950s 3D fans always blame the theaters and not poor quality of the films. Lets not forget that poor economy and that the fact 3D films are FAR more expensive to watch due to all expensive equiment and that a lot of the 3D versions of certian films haven't done well at box office as their 2D counterparts too.

While the "existence" of this letter does please me to some degree. here's an idea on how we can help the theaters that will show the film. DON'T SEE ON OPENING DAY! Wait a week or two. Because the rent on the film is at its highest percentage on opening day. plus why fight for a seat.
Grails:
Bots: G1 Bumblebee; Balance of Aerialbots(I have Air Raid)
parts: Overload's arms. Wanted badly
Good food and good drink can do only half of what their excellent variations can.

I didn't blame anybody. I have seen few 3D movies, and had a pleasant experience during all of them. You know why? Because they were properly lit and set up, just like Michael Bay requested in his letter. If indeed it is his letter. Nonetheless, my post was in response to to this holier-than-thou ass who immediately places his supposed financial problems on "the big, bad studios and its greedy, no-talent directors." His words, though paraphrased. It just came off as totally rude and uncalled for. If he has problems running a properly functional theater and projector which can provide the best viewing experience to the paying customer as Michael Bay pointed out, he needs to get the hell out of the theater business or get proper equipment, as I had stated before. And don't give me **** about how Bay doesn't know how to run a theater. He may not be hands-on with the finances, but you can bet your ass he knows more about the equipment than a projectionist. Said projectionists shouldn't only heed the words in that letter regarding the proper use of the equipment in regards to giving the best experience to the movie goer, but take it was a favor from a professional who decided to pass on some useful advice.
As for seeing DotM on opening day, I already have my ticket. And I will most likely be seeing it again over the weekend. Happily paying 90% to the studio and director who brought high-quality entertainment to be enjoyed by me.

The Ignorance if this post, and the like minded fools who agree with this are staggering. First of all, your information is wrong, second of all, if you don't like the current status of the franchise, sit it out and wait for G1 to return.
The truth is, Mbay takes no salary for the movie, nor does he get any royalties. That's right, none. You see he opts out of them and takes a cut of the merchandise profits. So in theory, the movie could be a POS and it will only effect his future job possibilities. Him going out to send letter to the projectionists is a huge step in wanting quality for something outside of his control. I already respected the man for his directing and producing abilities, but this is just above and beyond, especially since he really doesn't have a monetary gain to get out of it.
Some of you think you know how the systems works, but you have no f$%^ing clue. You ignorant blowholes are the reason the fan base on gets taken 50% to credibility. Nothing but a bunch of ignorant whining children who are mad because BumbleBee isn't a Volkswagen Bug. Get over it, and stop blaming the Director. You know that Hasbro and Paramount have 90% control of story, characters and Direction right? Mbay is not the creator. He is just the guy that puts everyone else's **** together, and even tries to throw things in for the fans, even though it's not his job.
Go get educated on how the industry works, then you can complain.

Am I the only one here who hasn't already decided that DOTM is an awful movie and that everyone involved should die horribly, and that Michael Bay, who directed this film filled with dizzyingly complex CGI robots as well as countless others, is a retarded gay black Jewish moron who can barely put together a sentence?
The problem with ROTF was that it was written during a writers' strike.
He admitted this, and unless you thought both movies were crap on all levels, don't judge DOTM based on that.

i havent said owt bad about movie yet. wait til thursday and then we will see.
as for the letter, its just another publicity stunt, if bay was more concerned with what he put up on the screen as opposed to how the turd he produced was lit then we would be a lot better off.
