I like the Wreckers displayed individually.

Though it would be cool if Impactor and Roadbuster had shoulder mounted cannons.

Oh, and I do have Twintwist displayed in tank mode with the double drill bits out front.

Well, while I cannot speak specifically for this combiner team, I know that for the few I have in my collection (Giant Type 61 and Fansproject upgraded Classics Combaticons) I do like to switch thing up somewhat. They are most often displayed in their gestalt form, but sometimes I'll switch things up and have them all as vehicles, or as individual robots. I've always been a firm believer that half of the fun of collecting transforming toys is... well... transforming them! And when I do, I typically do it a shelf at a time, then I leave them on display in whatever mode I just changed them into until I feel like doing it again.

I think Vortex working is a matter of opinion...

Personally, if I had the FOC Combaticons, I would probably only display Blast-Off in robot mode.

Hehe, yeah, I'm sort of a Beast Wars freak, so bright/crazy color schemes are really my taste, but it's certainly an acquired taste (just ask any fan for Transformers Generation 2).

Personally I like all five in 'bot and vehicle mode, I just wish Onslaught and Brawl were taller/bigger and Swindle was shorter.

If they do this guy in retail colours, and combined mode is almost as tall or just as tall as Herc, then I will have found my Classics Combaticons.

I've been struggling to figure out whether I can accept them as Classics, which is weird, because I already have done so for Genesis and WFC Prime/Megatron.

Integrating something that is aesthetically different starts with liking the individual figure (obviously there is more to it than that). Do you like the Combaticons as much as Genesis and WFC Prime/Megatron? If not, that might be the reason it is harder to accept them...

Genesis is my Classics Omega because he is freaken awesome, but there is no way I could ever accept WFC Prime and Megatron because I don't like them very much.

I think my standards are just different for big & small figures - the difference between being a prominent focal point in a visual display, and being a minor part of a large, deluxe/voyager ensemble.

Genesis very strongly resembles G1 Omega. The colors are basically right, and outside of being a WFC design, you can say the aesthetics essentially represent a nice, big, and blocky Classics update.

Bruticus is very different, starting with the colors, but extending to the actual designs. Where Genesis is blocky, you have a sleek movie influence on the Combaticons, which extends to the gestalt mode. Plus, and this might be the nail in the coffin for me, I would find him out of place amongst more Classics-styled combiners like Hercules, Feral Rex, & Intimidator. But it remains a toss up.

I'm surprised you're not a fan of WFC Optimus & Megatron. I got the Takara versions of both when they were on clearance at TFsource ($30 each), and I couldn't be happier with them. They're just superior to the Hasbro version in this case. Optimus makes a better IDW Optimus than IDW Optimus, in my humble opinion, and I consider Takara WFC Megatron to be the best Classics Megatron to date. With the SXS mace, he is an imposing presence that sums up the history of the character, especially since he has that alien, movie & animated influence to him.

I know that's somewhat contradictory, but what can I say, I like what I like. :P

A more prominent piece can definitely require stricter set of personal rules for inclusion in a set.

For my personal tastes I'm thinking this Bruticus will go with Herc, Uranos and Feral Rex really well, much better than Intimidator. But, as I said, I really like the FoC molds so that helps my decision a lot.

Part of my dislike is the size of them. Optimus and Megatron must be larger on my shelves which is why Hegemon replaced Classics Megatron and Orion is going to replace Classics Optimus. As for the Takara versions, I never paid them much notice (the size reasons) because no matter how good they are, they could never be Optimus and Megatron for me.

The only scale I really care about is robot scale and gestalts and faction leaders are the most important to get right.

As you said, we should get back on topic, though discussing the reasons behind why this upgrade dose or doesn't work isn't really off topic. I really want them to confirm if they are doing just the one colour scheme or going with multiple versions so I know which version to pick up. Repainted my retail set, so I am technically free to go with that again or get the Platinum Edition set, though would prefer the retail version.

I'm in the same boat as megatronus, trying to accept the FoC designs as Classics. I'm kind of fixated on the Combaticons having Earthly forms, plus I'm not all that smitten with the figures themselves. (Brawl really should have more mass.)

But just like

EDIT: If Microblaze announces a Takara-colored version, I might go for the Takara Combaticons. They're only $20 more than the Platinum set (which is the other set I would consider), with the plus of not coming with that hideously deco-ed Grimlock.

The limbs are $38 apiece on BBTS... so you're still paying $32 less for the set, and get Onslaught as a bonus.

Yea, just did the math.
Still not sure, I only really collect MPs these days, so I'mstill debating, I just found out that I could afford Unimetal Optimus.
So I'm currently doing number crunching for my oddity shelf; this thing, Unimetal Optimus, or the Black MP repaints. I can only jump for one of those options right now, but currently I'm leaning towards the black MPs.

But damn, that pic does make it kinda hard.

Don't know why it took me so long to do this, but here is my attempt and guesstimating MBC002s height. He has been moved slightly lower than Devastator, to make it look like he is standing in front of him, and appears to be very close to Herc's height.
Image
Hopefully Microblaze will release some actual info with the next round of images :D

EDIT: I slightly up-sized Bruticus, when I looked closely I felt he 'might've' been a little too short.
