MOTU

Do you collect other toys besides Transformers? Maybe you've got a Masters of the Universe collection you'd like to show off, or maybe you like Thundercats, Voltron, G.I.Joe, Power Rangers, Star Wars, Wrestling, or any of the various comic book toy lines. Please keep the discussions here to non-Transformers toy lines.

I saw this recently - Barbarian Skeletor. Alongside a pairing between him and Viking He-Man and I quite like the design. Not so much He-Man. As it looks like a standard design, plus Viking helm. But this armoured design compliments the classic Skeletor look, while adding something new.

I don't like his Col. Sanders chin beard, but I also don't like him with the hood in this armor. What to do...

I didn't think that was a beard. Just his chin was more pointed. I suppose in answer to your reservations, that is why he comes with an extra head.

Doesn't matter, I can't unsee a green beard. And like I said, I don't like that his other head is another hooded head.

So I got a POL box in from BBTS the other day. It has my MOTUO wave 6 (Stinkor, Webstor, LOP Beastman and Green Goddess), Deluxe Mosquitor, and MOTWWEU wave 8 (Chyna, Austin, Mysterio).

Nice, my wwe motu wave 8 is in Illinois, I how ever, are not haha.

Smyths has series Orco and 'normal?' he-man in. Boxed photos are out of the larger series Trapjaw and Stratos (another character not in season one). I can't tell if Stratos has wings or a jet pack from the image but think I'd be tempted to pick up the larger trap jaw to go with the 5 inch figures to look more menacing.

No, it's just an exaggeration of the usual bat design on his armor.

MOTU might eventually end up with more toy lines on the shelf than transformers.

After the last movie got scrapped another partnership for new one is in the works

https://toynewsi.com/414-41627

'When an orphan named Adam discovers he is a prince destined to be the savior of a faraway land, he must quickly learn of his power and the importance of saving his true home from an evil force'

hope to see Dolph in it at any rate.

Oh dear.. Why does that sound like 'contemporary Earth'? You would have thought the most obvious mistake of the 80's movie would have been lesson learned nearly 40 years later.

yup, sounds exactly like budget restraints of the 80s. Might make them work harder for it tho.

I just feel sorry for she-ra having her origin pinched hahah unless Adam was born female...

It sounds a lot to me like the new Netflix series story.

Picked up a Battle Armor Skeletor at Walmart on clearance for $7. I already have one I haven't opened up yet, but this one's package is pretty beat up so I'll open this one and save the other one.

Also found the Mega Constux He-man vs Beast Man set at TJMaxx on clearance for $4.50. Always thought these were very over priced for what they are, this is definitely the right price for me.

My sincerest condolences, and best of luck actually getting these to anyone who wants them.

At least sun man's not exclusive though as he will be available in the wave later on.

A bit of a weird choice using King grayskull to celebrate Black history month and it might give them some flack. A wwe motu Mr T repaint would have been way better but dunno if it would have had rights issues.

Picked up stridor today, package sneak peeks are zoar, the evil bird, its either terror claws or dragon blast skeletor on rottor and sun man. *Could also be teasing Castle Grayskulls Moat Jaw whihc will likely be as a base included with a vehicle.

You get two helmets with stridor which would make sense if the evil version had a helmet but no complaints. It kjnda surprised me to get a helmet with megablox panthor.

Yeah, they already did a Deluxe Sun-Man that was exclusive to Mattel Creations, this one is mass retail, I pre-ordered him a while ago on BBTS. Interestingly they removed him from being orderable (he's still in my pre-orders), probably until the other stores make him available.

I'm sure King Grayskull will be just as hard to find as all the other Target exclusive MOTU figures that have lingered for Months after release. I'm not worried, Mattel seems to have a better grasp on getting exclusives into Target than Hasbro does.

Looking it up online is surprisingly vague. Is Sun Man (and villain "Pig-Head", by association) new? Or a returning figure from the original line??

Sun Man actually has a pretty neat history. A rare case of an off brand toy now being officially made part of MOTU.

As for King Grayskull and celebrating Black History, at least they specified the Revelation version, and not the original.

It could have been far worse. Anti Eternia He-Man is in that same wave as Sun Man.

That was interesting. Literally never heard of him before. The logo font reminded me of NA, which I'm sure was more than coincidence. He actually could have worked really well in NA, come to think of it. :-?

I still find sun man's origin a bit dubious -which kid didn't want to be BA Barracus in 83 and yes he is a super hero. Even has a kryptoninite in the form of milk haha. Sun man probably did beat the ateam figures release date tho. I'd definitely have gone for a wwe motu Mr T exclusive redeco over using King greyskull.

My older cousin, back in the day, idolised B.A. Baracus in A-Team. A scrawny ginger 6y/o that practically lived in his A-Team vest. Forever reciting "I Pity the Fool"

I laugh. But then, a couple years later. I was waltzing around in a bathrobe with my NA Skeletor Skull Staff in a similar way :-D

So as I'm going to be phasing out of collecting TF in the next year or two; basically when my want list is completed, I could see getting back into MotU... Back in November I snagged Panthor for $10, and Skeletor for $12. Similar to TF, there's a lot of nostalgia here.
In fact I had way more MotU figures than TF.

Just being at Target the other day, I saw the new animated line, and both Skeletor and Trap Jaw definitely caught my attention.
And at $10 each... I am already considering going back and getting them today.

I've been having similar feelings, but ultimately decided not to dive back into MOTU. I have all the animated series on DVD, and all the Dark Horse collector books featuring every aspect of the franchise from animation, to comics, to toys, and I'm ok with that.

Truth be told, I had way more MOTU than Transformers as a kid as well. Everything from 82-85 and about half of what came out in 86 and 87.

I grew more into Transformers as time went on, but that was mostly because of the animated series. I had less than 10 original Transformers toys as a kid, but started collecting them more right out of high school during G2 and BW. I did have the 2 "Big Ones" that were my favorites though. (Omega Supreme, and Fortress Maximus) ;)

I saw almost 2 full waves of MOTU Origins between my closest walmart and target recently and was very much tempted to get them. However... I'm kind of an "all or nothing" guy. Even some of the first few wave figures that are not He-Man or Skeletor can fetch a hefty price on the secondary market. Also there is the fear that, although wave 8 is coming out soon, how long will the Origins line last? With items going on clearance, I don't think they will get to every character from the original MOTU.

Then I started looking on eBay at original MOTU. Surprisingly, many of the 82-84 characters can be obtained loose and complete for pretty reasonable prices, but the 86-87 characters are insanely expensive, even loose.

I find it interesting... Genuinely, when you look at MOTU from 82-87, there were never really any Bad Toys IMHO. The characters coming out in 1987 were just as cool, to me at least, as the first waves. It was just mismanagement by Mattel, and perhaps kids like me that grew out of it, or shifted focus that caused it all to end (well, that and the Movie bombing)

Whereas with Transformers, most fans consider 84-86 to be the "Best" years, but I'd throw 1987 in there as well. It was basically in 1988 that there was a marked decline of quality of the toys, seeing as there was much less involvement with Takara. Piranacon was really the only toy from 1988 I thought was cool even as a kid. Ultimately by 1991 and with Action Masters , it was dead.

Amazons saying origins flying fist heman should be with me by the weekend. No news on terrorclaw skeletor yet.

I caved and paid some scalpers prices on motu wwe wave 7 just to have them tho it will get expensive as I want a spare new day (don't even have one yet) and give Brett three faces (anvil, rocket) somehow.

I got a spare set of Mattel creations retro wwe that I'm hoping to be able to swap for motu Mr T or sell on and then buy him. Took over an hour to complete that purchase with website issues but at least it wasn't as bad as powercon stuff and it might mean the motu creations might be attainable.
