Oh wow, that is awesome. Okay, now I'm impressed. Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime in one!

So... the back of Hot Rod's car mode becomes the front of Rodimus Prime. Not quite show-accurate, transformation-wise, but whatever they need to do to make it work.

I was looking at pics over at tfw and noticed his gun has a hinge. It must fold up for storage in vehicle mode. There are a few closeups of the head too. There is clearly a gap between the head and the helmet.

edit: I caved and put a preorder on bbts. I have a contact in Hong Kong that will probably beat that though. Thank god for the way bbts do preorders. I prefer to use my contact as he has never let me down yet after many transactions.

So Robot Kingdom has him listed at $160...is that subject to change, too, or does that mean the $199 at BBTS is probably about what it's gonna be? I don't see any price disclaimers on the RK listing...

Edit: Thats Rodimus all right and from aspects I see where there could be some manipulation to become Hot Rod. Looks like there could be some thing in the head design to have a spin around face or such.

There's no point in being a smart alec. And, kenm2427 has a very valid point. This MP figure looks like it has a trailer......the original looked like a single piece vehicle like an RV/Motorhome. There is a difference.

I was thinking the space between the face and the helmet was probably to have his visor pop down, like Hot Rod's in the movie when he's zooming in.

I think they pretty much got it right.

That looks like a great transformation. Offtopic: That Wheelie, Powerglide, Cyclonus, Octane, and Ironhide on the sides look completely awesome. I have never seen them before.

They've been around for a while now. They are quite expensive, and very fragile. Still they look very nice.
Most of them aren't available any more. And I don't think Powerglide was ever released.

If that $155.00 price holds true...I might just buy my second Japanese Masterpiece. I normally wait for the US releases, but Rodimus looks so good, and with him being capable of FOUR modes (Hot Rod robot and vehicle, Rodimus Prime robot and vehicle), plus the nice looking trailer...I'm sorely tempted and will most likely give in.

Besides that, we may never see the full package come to the States.

Optimus has never received Convoy's trailer, plus if the instructions mention only the face flipping gimmick on Roddy, they can call it Masterpiece Hot Rod and skimp on the trailer part altogether.

If I'm gonna do this, I want the whole shebang.

And I'll have to pay for it.

You could go for both the Japanese AND US release, that way you'll have a Hot Rod AND Rodimus Prime to display.

This will be my fourth Japanese MP. I'm a high rolla'. Nah, I just have a very generous girlfriend who definitely appreciates the easy Christmas ideas every year.

I'm drooling in anticipation for this one. Even if it's coming out after Christmas.

I'm just glad they're showing Rodimus Prime to begin with, not doing the whole second release later thing.

Right I have it sussed now. The robot transforms into Hot Rods car mode. The legs how ever create the front side parts of the cab with the rest of the hot rods car tucked into the trailer. The window and front of the cab are actualy part of the trailer which folds out and covers up the half transformed backwards facing hot rod car mode. Thats why we heard reports of the trailer combing to create the rodius prime,for hot rod to rodimus. The legs clearly create the front of Rodimus's cab, but all the other parts suggest Hot Rods car form, and there appears to be no other windsheild etc to form Rodimus's alt mode, although they are similar they are not the same, only the legs contain parts.

That's what I thought too, there must be parts that fold out from under the trailer to form the alt mode cab roof and windshield.

I also feel asweel as a face change that the lower leg shortens a tad by sliding up to cover the extra knee panel, it's not much maybe the lnee panel slides in a little, but it would do, but would still make him pretty tall. The gun definently shortens to make a hot rod gun, and as the gun doesn't attatch in car mode what would be the point if there is no robot mode to acompany it.

It actually looks like the mp rodimus with that leg portion slid up. and rodimus's knee guard would be hidden by the clack part, still allowing for full articulation as the back area is lower. Thats kinda how he changes in the movie anyway. Also the wrist area which protrudes forward, and is a seperate shape, more rounded could also slide back a little

He looks incredible. It's finally confirmed that he does, in fact, form both Hot Rod and Rodimus in both robot and vehicle mode. You can see the tail section of the Hot Rod vehicle in the lower corner of the picture, and it was stated that the trailer holds the Rodimus vehicle parts.

I'll pay import prices for this one. No ifs, ands, or buts.

I'm sure they must be getting a kick out of slowly releasing information on this guy.

And if you look at the back of the car mode, you'll see how boxy it is under the spoiler, and that's the connection point for the windshield and nose for Rodimus in vehicle mode.

TakaraTomy (and I'm assuming Hasbro) have completely outdone themselves with this one. I think Rodimus just might be the best Masterpiece yet.

I mean that sincerely.

And after seeing this, I have no doubt that Hasbro would excise the trailer to keep costs low and still bring it to us, but without the trailer, the toy itself is truly incomplete.

Yes, I realize it's Hot Rod in both vehicle and robot mode, and that the robot mode can replicate the Rodimus look with a few tweaks here and there, and you can market it like that, and people will buy...but...

It's just incomplete without the trailer. If he can't do all of what he was intended to do, then you're doing yourself a disservice by buying a neutered Masterpiece Rodimus.

Buy the TakaraTomy version to be sure you get the whole kit n' kaboodle.

NOTE: I'm not saying that Hasbro will take the trailer out of the set, I'm not saying Hasbro will even release it over here, but with their spotty track record on things such as this, it needs to at least be said so folks can work with what ifs. Sometimes what ifs end up being all you need.

Masterpiece is the only real series I am religious to, and with the iGear cone heads coming out, it's going to be an expensive 12 months...
