I don't like the black paint apps. Whoever started that trend at Hasbro should be fired immediately.

it's not like it's 20th anniv. prime with a tuft of black.. this is more realistic wear/weathering and it's a great addition to the alt mode.
edit: WTH happened to the Vulcan Cannon Nozzle?
I saw other models that had the propper blacking of the cannon nozzle/cooler/exhaust.. completely gone here.. it almost looks virgin white.

Ditto.
To as a dumb question, in one of the pictures it shows the engine outtakes pointing up and also a panel sticking up on the back when he's in jet mode. I assume that acts like an air brake maybe? Can real jets do both these things in real life, and why would they do them?

I'm not liking the chest missiles. Just solid red plastic. No paint or anything.
You'd think Hasbro would do better.
Not that I don't want it or anything, but I just might shell out for that Skywarp instead.

Yes it's an airbrake..
the throttle funels are required for the necessary Jet thrust -> the smaller the tube, the faster are flow through it. and yes, everything is quite realistic, including the flaps and the radar dome.

I too had hoped that Hasbro would paint the tips on the rockets as we can see that they did put in some time in giving the doc. a healthier color.

I think the picture you saw showed the dorsal air brake and the two near the thrust exhausts.
http://photo8.yupoo.com/20070818/213607_1999964535.jpgAlthough I'm not aware of the air brakes located near the thrust exhausts in real life, they might be available on certain newer models or it can be that the Japanese airforce has some custom work done to them... as far as I know the F-15 (with thrust vectoring) does not have this and the older models (up to E) certainly have smaller nozzles there.

Hmmm, after seeing these pics I actually like the paint apps a bit better on his jet mode. The lack of paint on the chest is 'bot mode isn't that great but if I can snag this guy for retail prices I'll definitely be happy. He'll look great sitting next to my MP Skywarp.

Wow, I really want this guy - I for one, Love the black wash effect.
The little crown decal is a nice touch too but the unpainted chest missles and vulcan port are sloppy(typical half assed Hasbro).
I like the smirking face alot, you just know he's plotting something

my japanese mp starscream is LOLing at this, and is rolling over the floor at how hasbro decided that black hinges on a light grey jet were a good idea. also, why has no-one mentioned about the hip skirts- which fit the seeker whats the word, charecter ethic perfectly BTW- on this version, yet everyone moans about it o the japanese version. shouldn't they be complaining more here, since the figure is trying to be less realistic now with the colours, and the skirts existance is due to the realisticness aim of the japanese version.

Okay...stupid new guy question.
I don't know much about the Masterpiece line since I'm new, but I'm trying to figure it out.
Looking at the database, it appears as though most of the line has been produced by Takara Tomy?
How often are figures released? Where can one buy these? I saw on this thread that the Starscream figure will be released through Walmart. I'm assuming the Takara figures are not distributed in the US?
How does this figure differ from the Starscream that was already released by Takara?
Just trying to figure this out....
Also...how much will this Starscream cost?

Oh man, this will be on my X-mas list for sure. I mean I have the original MP Screamer, but this is how he should have been in the first place.

What a masterpiece!
The colours look darker and less plasticky on this one, which is good.
He better come out in the UK, or heads will roll all the way to the States to fetch me one
