I just want the retail version. The chrome is kind of offsetting.

Wow, it's actually worse than pictures make it out to be.

And I love how they covered the robot-mode in chrome, but all the parts that should be chrome aren't.
Literally the only chromed thing on this in alt-mode is 2/3s of the grill, all the other things that need chroming don't have it.
This thing sucks, not only does it sacrifice the bot-mode in favor of the alt-mode, but it also looks so terrible. Amazing what passes as adult collector orientated toys these days.

"If" I were to get one, he would probably spend the vast amount of time in Truck mode. I will probably pass on this version and hope something better comes out down the line. You've fooled me a few times Hasbro.....

Yellow Rampage then later we get red Rampage
07 Movie Voyager Prime then HFTD Voyager Prime
and some others

I'll wait....(probably)....

Perhaps that is only wrong to you? If I find a way that I like my transformer, then he isn't wrong. He is right to me and it works for me. Perhaps he is great for the owner?

Yah you guys gotta lay off and cut me a little slack. This isn't as easy to keep everything straight as you might think (which is probably why no one gives me competition on these galleries and why you'll find the world's largest amount of Transformers galleries here at Seibertron.com). When I do this many galleries and handle this many Transformers, one of them is bound not to get transformed exactly correct from time to time. If I worried about whether or not each one of them was transformed exactly correct in every photo I take (i.e. the chest plates not being angled correctly on ROTF Optimus Prime), then we wouldn't have over 3,100+ galleries here on Seibertron.com.

I do a pretty good job of making sure they're correctly transformed. It's easy to sit back and critique how they're transformed when you've got 1 figure in your hand, but it's another thing altogether when I try to crank out 20 galleries per week plus all of the Transformers that go along with them for comparison shots.

One more quick clarification ... in many of these galleries, I'm often giving all of you a first look at these toys in highly detailed fashion. Most of the time there is very little content online of these figures so I don't have a lot to compare it to if there's something I don't understand in the instructions. Even if someone else beat me to the punch, I don't have the luxury (or the time) to watch YouTube videos or look at other galleries. Hindsight is always 20/20 ... it's a lot easier to criticize whether or not these are transformed correctly looking back after you've perfected transforming one of yours.

The only figure I'm aware of in these galleries that is really mis-transformed and needs the gallery redone because of the mis-transformation is Robots In Disguise Ultra Magnus (2001). I forgot to flip up the two sides of his upper chest so he just has a couple of gaping holes unfortunately. One day I'll get around to fixing that gallery ... probably when I do the variants of him at some point. One day ...

There are a lot of examples where Hasbro did it right over Takara, or at a minimum where Takara didn't do any better than Hasbro. I think a lot of it has to do with who came out with the toy second? But in a lot of cases, Takara can keep their over paint deco'ed over chromed repaints. I loved the Binaltechs but can do without the paint chips. The chrome on Henkei figures looks sorely out-of-place (and again with the paint chipping). I have just as many problems with paint apps on Takara figures as I do Hasbro figures (Takara Tomy Generations Skywarp's foot with severe paint chips right out of the package for example or a 3/4ths applied Decepticon badge on Takara's Generations Legends Megatron). Every one of the Autobot cars from the recent Masterpiece line has had paint issues (which is widespread from what I understand). Takara, while they do some nice things for collectors, is over-hyped and over-rated. I think they're pretty on par with Hasbro's quality of work.

Anyone think Takara and Hasbro try to one up each other? depending on who release what first? Takara Soundwave for example. Prime smokescreen is another example. and Takara uping hasbro on some shiny painted figures. yea? no?

I think it's less about one-upping (though it'd be awesome if they had a fun competitive sibling rivalry like that) and more about offering something different in the different markets to sell something to someone who didn't like the initial offering (more the latter than the former) or to get completionists. Hasbro's Masterpiece Grimlock, Masterpiece Rodimus, Beast Hunters Smokescreen and many others come to mind. If both companies offer the identical product, there's much less opportunity for those products to sell to international consumers whereas if they both offer the same product with a little different twist, the opportunity to sell to international consumers increases (probably significantly in the collector market).

In the case of Arms Micron Smokescreen, I think Takara pulled a fast one. It was announced and released after Hasbro announced (but didn't show) that we would be getting a Beast Hunters Deluxe Class Smokescreen. Hasbro didn't state if it was a new mold at that time. I think most of us assumed once Arms Micron Smokescreen (with a new head) was shown, that that was the figure we'd be getting for Beast Hunters (sans Micron). We took the bait, Takara made extra sales, Hasbro reveals Beast Hunters Smokescreen, buyer's remorse hits many. Basic sales technique to milk a previous mold for extra sales while keeping a new better product under wraps. Many successful companies utilize similar strategies. Nothing wrong with it either.

You're sure about that? One of the reasons Smokescreen was predicted back when the "New Recruit" teaser was released was because there was a character named "Smokescreen," who we knew was a retool of Knock Out, being released in Japan. This was before way any of us heard the name Beast Hunters.

We took the bait, Takara made extra sales, Hasbro reveals Beast Hunters Smokescreen, buyer's remorse hits many.

Yeah. Buyer's remorse hits me when GO! Smokescreen was revealed. What a crappy paintjob Hasbro gave him. >:oP

Poor Lenny, the best thing he could say about this figure was that it "has new accessories".

Hey, if this clip lasted more than 50 seconds kids would leave their ipads in a frustrated mess on the floor. And parents have jobs to get to, y'know.

I dig the fig. I have had it for about 48 hours now and it is not that bad when you look at it for what it is. This is not the Holy Grail of Primes here people. This is a well thought out leadership homage to the early days of figures that were shell formers and had limited articulation. The only thing really missing here is a sticker sheet. I would love to be able to customize the truck mode a little more and hope reprolabels will come up with something. The figure looks great displayed next to my DOTM TRU Jetwing Optimus Prime. I only have 3 complaints

1) Price
2) Lack of head movement
3) No wrist swivel

and two of those fall under G1 toy standards anyway. The hate really needs to DIE. We have a little over a week until Toy Fair so rest up and prepare to return to your soapboxes then. I'm not a hypocrite...I'll be on mine standing with you :-B . Let's allow kids to enjoy this figure for what it is. >:oP

This is a $60 "premium" figure being released in 2014 and aimed at adult collectors. I think we have a right to expect a higher standard.

I'm so sorry to hear that. I got mine and the sword and shield were fine. But to be fair Hasbro quality control has burned me twice with a Generations Ultra Magnus that had two left hands and Generations Voyager Rhinox that had two right gun weapons. I finally replaced my Magnus but have yet to see a single Rhinox :-x

2) Lack of head movement
3) No wrist swivel

and two of those fall under G1 toy standards anyway.

This is a $60 "premium" figure being released in 2014 and aimed at adult collectors. I think we have a right to expect a higher standard.

That would be fine if this were being marketed as a kid's toy, but it's not.

I don't disagree with you with any point. I paid the premium price for the figure. I'm sure he will undoubtedly not sell out and be available for $19.99 very soon. You're right it's not a kids toy but it's still a toy.

So much for being a premium.

Same with mine! I kept looking at all the pics with paint apps on the sword and shield and had been wondering if it was just mine that was unpainted.
