sometimes I can definitely see the difference, and the reason for paying more for something that's nicer in general, or more accurate to a show or something. Most of the time I don't see enough improvement for me to pay the extra, and sometimes the Hasbro versions are the ones I like better.
Sometimes there is quite a huge difference between US and Japanese releases. Take TFPrime Breakdown for example.

I think it says "Museum Masterline Transformers Revenge Megatron Polystone (?) Statue". It also looks like 188,000 yen. Ouch.
