Dead Metal wrote:Yes I know all that, but the difference was that until now, idw didn't do that with their main G1 comics save for the silly body changes during AHM, but that was horrid anyway.
Until now, the idw G1 verse was strictly fiction based, without advertising the toys, and Hasbro said they liked it that way.
But this? Sure Waspinator, Rhinox and Rattrap work, since even the originals where still G1 characters, but stuff like Armada Starscream here and the WFC/FOC bodies is stupid, and the inclusion of the Metroplex plot.
I mean, I don't have anything against them putting in characters that will show up as toys, what I don't like is them doing it badly.
The MTMTE and RID have been doing their own thing, especially MTMTE has been building up to something, which is now getting shoved aside or even cut just to justify this. Metroplex makes no sense the way he's been treated in Dark Cybertron.
I think the focus is still on the fiction - it's the only reason Chromedome and Rewind's relationship could have happened, or characters with entirely religious and genocidal (religiously genocidal?) thoughts exist. It's why Rattrap isn't a "heroic maximal" as far as we, the reader, can tell. It's why one of the Metrotitans is being set up as an eldritch horror in light of the shiny new Metroplex toy.
(And as an aside, I fully expect Metroplex to show up and fight the Metrotitan)
Yeah, Dark Cybertron is pinging my **** radar but it hasn't developed into a toilet wormhole yet. The series is attempting to resolve the issue with the Dead Universe while also attempting to establish Shockwave as major villain - which is more of an homage to Marvel's G1 comic as opposed to selling toys. While Dark Cybertron will sell some toys, my hopes ultimately boil down to loosening whatever restrictions there are on the original Shockwave toy and pushing through a Masterpiece of the figure based on the popularity of the comics.
Having said all of this, I understand and part of me agrees two separate Generation lines would have been ideal. However, at the heart of the Generations line and its Universe parentage; I think it's okay if the toyline encompasses everything about Transformers this past 30 years.
Except the movie stuff. Transforms from car I can never afford to gear vomit inside a loose bowel shell.
