Wow these both look amazing!!!

i wonder if maybe Takara might start doing this line where they celebrate the Convoys through time. It would be neat to start getting updates to the Primes of the Ages, so to speak

The head of the cab part of Star Convoy is a G1 Prime head. It has three little indentations on the top of each side of the face plate.

The only other Prime mold to ever have these is the original 1984 G1 Prime mold.

"S Convoy" and "A Convoy", actually. Using "Armada Convoy" isn't that strange: like Armada Optimus Prime, Optimus Primal was originally just called "Convoy" in Japan, only receiving the "Beast" add-on during Robot Masters to distinguish him from the original (who went by "G1 Convoy", but that didn't really stick). Plus, "Armada Convoy" has seen use before, as the name for that Bendy Prime redeco in Cybertron when it was imported in Japan.

I think its super strange since the show wasnt called Armada in japan and this toy was being revealed by a japanese company in japan.

Both "Armada Starscream Super Mode" and "Armada Megatron" were called such in their Japanese Legends releases.

It may seem odd to pick the English-language name and not go with like "Micron Convoy", but names from foreign lands always have more impact. Same with us, really. Not the first time TakaraTomy follows Hasbro's lead either.

"Armada" Convoy might also be a case of "brand unification." But then, why wouldn't Takara go whole hog and say "Armada Optimus Prime"?

Keep in mind "A(rmada) Convoy" is a placeholder name for now, once its line is known that may change. Also, brand unification only affects the figures themselves with no regional variants, not the way they're marketed. Note how Legends and Masterpiece still use Japanese names, being TakaraTomy-initiated lines, contrasting the "imported" Hasbro-initiated lines.

I think Armada prime might be apart of one of the next entries in WFC his mini-con ports could have been replaced with the combat system have we seen a full backshot of him since they were all on his back.

Takara wouldn't reveal a Hasbro line figure before Hasbro would, especially one for later line that hasn't even been announced yet. Hasbro always gets first dibs on their own product and lines. This Armada Convoy is Takara's baby.

It is, and the “ears” seem perfect, but it’s missing a bit of that Orion pax roundness to his scalp. Just seems a bit odd considering most of the design is dead on to the source with some artistic liberties on the small details.

As far as Takara Tomy using the Armada name goes it isn't like Hasbro hasn't done the same with "Galaxy Force Optimus Prime" and now the new "Galaxy Upgrade Optimus Prime".

Transformers Cybertron Optimus Prime Gallery

I managed to snag one with the arm covers correctly assembled (most had them wrong). The extra bio had him as an extra body to navigate the small tunnels of Gigantion with.

It's the Supercon Deluxe version of Armada Optimus Prime. People call him "Bendy" because he is super articulated compared to the bricks of the Armada era

I'm not against it, but since Galaxy Upgrade is technically the second use of the Ultra Magnus mold I suspect we'll be seeing a retool of either Shockwave or Astrotrain at SDCC instead with the remaining figure going to Amazon like we saw in PotP.

I hope Armada Prime comes with a trailer. It makes sense that they had been further along with Star Convoy, given that Star was based on POTP Optimus and Armada is clearly a new mold. I also hope that they announce a Jetfire and Overload, particularly as Fans Hobby are also making an Armada Prime and they are making Jetfire and Overload.
